American rock favourites MATCHBOX TWENTY are preparing for another exciting chapter on the road in 2027 — and this time, fans could have the opportunity to enjoy something a little more special than your average concert ticket!
The multi-platinum rockers, fronted by the unmistakable Rob Thomas, are promoting three VIP experiences for their forthcoming 2027 tour, with Backstage With Brad highlighting the announcement.
For fans who have spent decades singing along to classics such as ‘Push’, ‘3AM’, ‘Bent’, ‘Unwell’ and ‘If You’re Gone’, the prospect of another tour is already exciting enough.
But throw exclusive VIP experiences into the mix, and suddenly an evening of nostalgic rock anthems could become something considerably more memorable.
And let’s face it — who wouldn’t fancy a little extra rock ‘n’ roll treatment? 🤘
🎤 Matchbox Twenty – A Band Built For The Live Stage
Formed in Orlando, Florida, in 1995, Matchbox Twenty became one of the defining American rock bands of the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Their breakthrough album, Yourself or Someone Like You, arrived in 1996 and introduced the world to a band capable of blending alternative rock, heartfelt songwriting and ridiculously infectious melodies.
Songs including ‘Push’, ‘3AM’, ‘Real World’ and ‘Back 2 Good’ helped transform the group into international stars.
Rather than disappearing after their initial success, Matchbox Twenty continued developing their sound, releasing albums that cemented their reputation as one of the most recognisable names in mainstream American rock.
And with Rob Thomas delivering those distinctive vocals, the band built a catalogue that still resonates with audiences decades later.
Their music has that rare ability to transport listeners straight back to a particular moment in their lives.
A first concert.
A long summer.
A road trip.
Or perhaps that slightly questionable relationship you thought was going to last forever.
We’ve all been there, butt. 😂
🎟️ Three VIP Experiences Announced For 2027
One of the biggest talking points surrounding the forthcoming tour is the announcement that three VIP experiences will be offered.
The news was highlighted by Backstage With Brad, suggesting fans will have a choice of different premium concert experiences.
However, the precise contents of the three packages have not yet been detailed in the announcement.
That means it’s important not to assume that backstage access, meet-and-greets, photographs with the band or soundcheck attendance are included until the organisers confirm those benefits.
What Could Fans Expect?
VIP concert packages commonly offer benefits such as early venue entry, premium merchandise, dedicated check-in, preferred seating or access to exclusive areas.
Some packages may also feature artist-related experiences, depending on the arrangements.
These are examples of typical VIP benefits, not confirmed inclusions for Matchbox Twenty’s 2027 tour.
For now, the important news is that three different VIP experiences are being promoted, giving fans something extra to watch out for as further tour information emerges.
🎸 Rob Thomas – One Of Rock’s Most Recognisable Voices
A huge part of Matchbox Twenty’s enduring appeal comes from frontman Rob Thomas.
His distinctive vocal delivery, emotional songwriting and ability to connect with an audience helped turn the band into a household name.
Thomas has also enjoyed considerable success outside Matchbox Twenty.
His collaboration with Santana on ‘Smooth’ became one of the biggest songs of 1999, while his solo career produced hits including ‘Lonely No More’.
But there’s something particularly special about hearing him perform alongside Matchbox Twenty.
The chemistry, the familiar guitar arrangements and those enormous singalong choruses all come together to create the kind of live experience that makes audiences forget about tomorrow morning’s alarm clock.
💿 Nearly Three Decades Of Rock Anthems
Matchbox Twenty’s studio catalogue includes:
- Yourself or Someone Like You (1996) – The breakthrough album that introduced ‘Push’ and ‘3AM’.
- Mad Season (2000) – Featuring ‘Bent’ and ‘If You’re Gone’.
- More Than You Think You Are (2002) – Home to ‘Unwell’ and ‘Bright Lights’.
- North (2012) – Their fourth studio album, featuring ‘She’s So Mean’.
- Where the Light Goes (2023) – Their first studio album in more than a decade.
It’s a catalogue packed with songs that helped define an era of alternative and mainstream rock.
And while fashions have changed, guitar tones have evolved and the music industry has reinvented itself several times over, those choruses still sound enormous.
🔥 Why A Matchbox Twenty Concert Is Worth Getting Excited About
Matchbox Twenty aren’t a band that need to rely on elaborate gimmicks to entertain an audience.
Their biggest weapon has always been the songs.
From the emotional intensity of ‘Push’ to the infectious energy of ‘She’s So Mean’, their music offers plenty of opportunities for audiences to sing themselves hoarse.
And then there’s ‘Unwell’.
You know the one.
The song that somehow manages to get an entire crowd singing together regardless of whether they’re lifelong fans or simply accompanied somebody who bought the tickets.
That’s the magic of a band with a catalogue this familiar.
Of course, the exact setlist for the 2027 tour hasn’t been confirmed, so we’ll have to wait and see which favourites make the cut.
But there’s certainly no shortage of material to choose from.

Known for enormous alternative rock anthems including ‘Dirty Little Secret’, ‘Move Along’ and ‘Gives You Hell’, The All-American Rejects will join Matchbox Twenty for the opening four headline dates in May.

🎤 David Gray
British singer-songwriter David Gray joins the tour for a series of July and early August appearances.
Best known for ‘Babylon’, ‘This Year’s Love’ and ‘Sail Away’, Gray’s emotionally driven songwriting and distinctive vocals should complement Matchbox Twenty beautifully.

🤘 O.A.R.
American rock band O.A.R., also known as Of A Revolution, will join the final southern stretch of the tour in August.
With songs such as ‘Shattered (Turn the Car Around)’ and ‘Love and Memories’, their blend of rock, alternative influences and jam-band energy should deliver plenty of atmosphere.

🇬🇧 Will Matchbox Twenty Bring Their Anniversary Tour To The UK?
There’s one question British fans will inevitably be asking.
What about the UK?
Unfortunately, the announced 2027 itinerary currently concentrates entirely on North America, with dates across the United States and Canada.
There are no confirmed concerts in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.
And yes, we’d absolutely welcome a Cardiff date. 🐉
With such an enormous back catalogue and a major anniversary to celebrate, a British run would certainly be a welcome addition.
For now, however, UK fans will have to wait for any further announcements.
🐉 The Riff Report Says…
Thirty years of Matchbox Twenty.
Just think about that for a moment.
Thirty years since Yourself or Someone Like You introduced the world to a band that would go on to provide the soundtrack to countless lives.
Thirty years of massive choruses, heartfelt lyrics, radio anthems and songs that still sound brilliant when played far too loudly in the car.
Now Rob Thomas and company are taking that legacy back onto the road for an enormous North American anniversary celebration.
And with The All-American Rejects, The Wallflowers, David Gray, O.A.R., Matt Nathanson and The Lucky joining selected dates, this isn’t simply another nostalgia tour.
It’s a proper celebration of American alternative rock and the songs that helped define a generation.
Throw in three VIP experiences and some of North America’s most recognisable concert venues, and 2027 is shaping up to be a memorable year for Matchbox Twenty fans.
Our only complaint?
Where’s the bloody UK tour, lads? 😂🇬🇧
Come on, Rob. There’s a perfectly good audience waiting over here in Cymru.
Until then, North American fans have plenty to look forward to.
Thirty years. Fifty-two headline shows. Countless rock anthems. One massive anniversary celebration. 🎸🔥🤘
Keep it loud. Keep it heavy. Keep supporting live music.
