There are band reunions.

There are massive band reunions.

And then there’s Oasis getting back together after 16 bloody years.

Now one of the biggest rock ’n’ roll comeback stories Britain has ever witnessed is heading to cinemas in Oasis: Don’t Look Back In Anger, a new documentary charting Liam and Noel Gallagher’s incredible return for the mammoth Oasis Live ’25 tour.

And judging by everything revealed so far, this isn’t merely going to be a shiny concert film with a few backstage clips stitched between “Wonderwall” and “Champagne Supernova”.

This looks like the full story.

The rehearsals.

The nerves.

The history.

The arguments.

The fans.

The stadiums.

And, most importantly…

Liam and Noel Gallagher sitting down together and actually talking about Oasis.

C’mon mun. 🍿🔥

🎥 WHAT IS OASIS: DON’T LOOK BACK IN ANGER?

Oasis: Don’t Look Back In Anger documents the extraordinary reunion of Oasis and the journey behind their hugely anticipated Live ’25 comeback.

The film has been created by Steven Knight, the man behind Peaky Blinders, and directed by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace, whose previous music documentary work includes Shut Up and Play the Hits and Meet Me in the Bathroom.

That alone gives us plenty of reason to get excited.

Because this story needs more than someone pointing a camera at a stage.

Oasis are one of those bands where the story surrounding the music is almost as legendary as the songs themselves.

Brothers.

Fights.

Walkouts.

Headlines.

Insults.

Break-ups.

Comebacks.

Absolute chaos.

Basically Shakespeare with parkas and Marshall amps.

💥 THE COMEBACK NOBODY THOUGHT WOULD ACTUALLY HAPPEN

For years, an Oasis reunion became one of rock music’s greatest running jokes.

Every few months another rumour appeared.

Every interview with Liam produced another quote.

Every interview with Noel seemed to produce the opposite quote.

Fans analysed every social media post like detectives investigating Britain’s loudest cold case.

And every festival announcement came with somebody inevitably asking:

“Oasis?”

Nope.

Until 2024.

Suddenly the impossible became very, very real.

Oasis announced they were returning.

And the internet collectively lost its mind.

🏟️ OASIS LIVE ’25 BECAME A CULTURAL EVENT

The resulting Live ’25 tour wasn’t simply another nostalgia run.

This was an event.

Fans who had followed Oasis since the 1990s suddenly found themselves standing alongside people who hadn’t even been born when the band released Definitely Maybe.

Parents brought their kids.

Old mates reunited.

Entire families travelled across the country.

And stadium after stadium became one enormous Oasis choir.

That atmosphere is exactly what Don’t Look Back In Anger has the opportunity to capture.

Not simply what happened onstage…

…but why it mattered so much.

🐉 AND WHERE DID THE COMEBACK BEGIN?

Oh yes.

CARDIFF.

Because obviously Wales had to get involved. 🐉🤘

Oasis kicked off their reunion tour at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium in July 2025.

Think about that for a second.

After 16 years apart, the first proper Oasis show of the comeback happened right here in Wales.

Thousands packed into Cardiff as years of speculation finally disappeared.

The lights went down.

The band walked out.

Liam Gallagher stood behind that microphone.

Noel Gallagher picked up his guitar.

And Oasis were back.

Proper job, butt.

👀 THE BACKSTAGE FOOTAGE COULD BE THE REAL GOLD

Of course, footage of enormous Oasis concerts is going to look spectacular on a cinema screen.

But we’re possibly even more interested in what happened when the stadium lights weren’t shining.

The documentary promises access to the machinery behind the comeback, including rehearsals and behind-the-scenes material from the tour.

And that’s where things could become fascinating.

What was the atmosphere like when Liam and Noel first started rehearsing together again?

Was it awkward?

Emotional?

Completely normal?

Did everyone else in the room spend the first week terrified of making eye contact?

😂

Because however carefully planned the reunion might have been, there’s no escaping the weight of history surrounding those two brothers.

🎙️ LIAM AND NOEL TOGETHER

Perhaps the biggest reason Oasis fans will want to see this documentary is the prospect of Liam and Noel discussing everything together.

For years, we’ve heard both sides of the Oasis story separately.

Liam’s version.

Noel’s version.

Another Liam interview.

Another Noel interview.

Another headline.

Another insult.

Another rumour.

Now we’re getting something much rarer:

the Gallagher brothers talking about Oasis in the context of actually being Oasis again.

That is potentially worth the admission price alone.

💔 THE 2009 BREAK-UP STILL LOOMS LARGE

You can’t tell the story of the Oasis reunion without revisiting the band’s spectacular implosion.

Oasis split in 2009 following years of tension between Liam and Noel.

The final collapse happened around their scheduled appearance at France’s Rock en Seine festival, after another backstage confrontation.

Noel left the band.

And that appeared to be that.

Oasis were finished.

For years afterwards, reconciliation seemed almost impossible.

Which is exactly why footage of the brothers standing side-by-side again carries so much emotional weight.

The Live ’25 story isn’t simply about a successful tour.

It’s about something fans had spent more than a decade assuming they’d never witness.

🎵 THEN THERE’S THAT RIDICULOUS SONGBOOK

Even if you ignored all the drama, Oasis have another enormous advantage when it comes to making a concert documentary.

Those songs.

“Rock ’n’ Roll Star.”

“Supersonic.”

“Live Forever.”

“Cigarettes & Alcohol.”

“Some Might Say.”

“Morning Glory.”

“Wonderwall.”

“Champagne Supernova.”

And obviously…

“Don’t Look Back In Anger.”

Songs that have long since escaped the boundaries of traditional fandom.

Put thousands of people together, play the opening piano notes of “Don’t Look Back In Anger”, and watch what happens.

Arms go up.

Strangers hug.

Beer goes flying.

Everybody suddenly becomes convinced they’re a professional singer.

Some of them most definitely aren’t.

But nobody cares.

That’s the magic.

🍿 THIS COULD BE ONE LOUD CINEMA SCREENING

The film is getting a cinema release, including selected IMAX screenings from 9 September 2026.

And IMAX seems almost perfect for this.

Massive screen.

Massive sound system.

Massive stadium footage.

Massive choruses.

Massive Gallagher eyebrows.

Modern cinema technology has finally achieved its ultimate purpose.

😂🤘

The documentary will subsequently head to Disney+ later in 2026, meaning fans who don’t catch the theatrical run will eventually be able to experience it from home.

Although we’re guessing plenty of households will receive the traditional Oasis documentary treatment:

Volume up.

Neighbours annoyed.

Job done.

🎬 VENICE COMES FIRST

Before hitting UK cinemas, Oasis: Don’t Look Back In Anger will receive its world premiere at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival in September.

That’s quite the stage for a documentary about a band whose early career involved considerably more cigarettes, lager and questionable hotel behaviour than red carpets.

But that’s Oasis.

They started as a bunch of lads from Manchester who wanted to be the biggest band in the world.

And for a period during the 1990s…

They basically were.

❤️ THIS IS REALLY A FILM ABOUT THE FANS TOO

Hopefully the documentary remembers one thing:

The Oasis reunion wasn’t simply about Liam and Noel.

It was about everybody who never stopped listening.

Everybody who bought the records.

Everybody who saw them the first time around.

Everybody who discovered them years later.

Everybody who thought they’d missed their opportunity forever.

When Oasis finally returned, generations collided.

And suddenly songs written three decades earlier sounded enormous again inside modern stadiums.

That’s an incredible story in itself.

⭐ THE RIFF REPORT VERDICT… SO FAR

We’re holding off giving Don’t Look Back In Anger a proper review score until the film actually lands.

But anticipation?

Oh, we’re there.

🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸

5/5 Guitars for anticipation.

Because look at the ingredients.

Oasis.

Liam Gallagher.

Noel Gallagher.

Backstage access.

Rehearsal footage.

Stadium performances.

The reunion story.

The break-up.

The fans.

And one of Britain’s greatest rock songbooks blasting through cinema speakers.

If Don’t Look Back In Anger manages to capture even a fraction of what made Oasis Live ’25 feel so enormous, we’re potentially looking at one of the must-see rock documentaries of 2026.

🤘 OASIS ARE BACK – AND NOW THE CAMERAS WERE THERE

That’s ultimately why this movie matters.

For 16 years, Oasis fans wondered whether they’d ever see Liam and Noel Gallagher sharing a stage again.

Then it happened.

Not quietly.

Not with a tiny warm-up gig somewhere.

But with enormous stadium shows and millions of fans watching one of British rock’s most famous broken relationships somehow become a functioning band again.

Now we’re getting to see what happened behind the curtain.

And we suspect cinemas are going to become singalong venues the second those opening chords arrive.

So forget politely munching popcorn.

Forget whispering.

Forget telling people to keep the noise down.

This is Oasis.

You’re probably going to hear “DON’T LOOK BACK IN ANGER!” being belted out by row G whether you like it or not.

And quite frankly…

We wouldn’t want it any other way.

Oasis: Don’t Look Back In Anger hits IMAX and cinemas from 9 September 2026.

🎸 Will you be watching it at the cinema, or waiting for Disney+?

Michael

🎸 About Michael Michael is the founder, editor and chief riff wrangler of The Riff Report, an independent Welsh rock, metal and alternative music publication built by fans, for fans. A lifelong rock and metal fan, Michael has spent years immersed in the music, culture and community that surround the heavier side of life. From discovering new bands and digging through classic albums to standing in muddy festival fields, squeezing into packed venues and spending far too much time near the front of a stage, music has always been much more than background noise — it is a massive part of who he is. That passion eventually became The Riff Report, a publication created to celebrate the bands, artists, venues, festivals, photographers, promoters and fans who keep the rock and metal world turning. Michael spends much of the year covering gigs, festivals, tours, album releases, new singles, interviews and music news, with a camera never too far away and a press pass usually hanging somewhere around his neck. Whether it is a huge arena show, a major outdoor festival or a tiny grassroots venue packed with people discovering their new favourite band, he believes every part of the scene has stories worth telling. For Michael, one of the biggest joys of music journalism is being able to shine a light on artists at every level. The Riff Report is just as interested in the hungry independent band playing to 50 people as it is in the global act headlining to 50,000. Supporting unsigned, independent and grassroots musicians is a huge part of the publication’s identity, because every legendary band started somewhere. Sometimes the next big thing is not on a massive billboard or a major-label playlist — sometimes they are crammed onto a tiny stage in a pub, plugging in their own gear and hoping somebody in the room remembers their name. Michael wants The Riff Report to be one of the places that remembers.
