Forget boring beige hotel rooms — we’re going somewhere you can sleep surrounded by guitars, rock memorabilia and enough musical madness to make your average Travelodge quietly reconsider its life choices.

There are hotels.

There are nice hotels.

And then there are hotels where you can wander through corridors packed with rock memorabilia, order a guitar to your bedroom, sleep inside an enormous guitar-shaped building or spend your holiday pretending you’ve just finished a six-month stadium tour.

Now THAT is travelling Riff Report style. 🤘😂

For rock and metal fans, a hotel doesn’t necessarily have to be somewhere you simply dump your suitcase before heading to a gig.

Sometimes the hotel IS part of the bloody adventure.

So grab the passport, pack the battle jacket and try explaining to airport security why half your luggage consists of band shirts.

We’re going around the world in search of some of the coolest rock ‘n’ roll hotels on the planet.

🎸 HARD ROCK HOTEL AT UNIVERSAL ORLANDO

📍 Orlando, Florida, USA

Let’s begin with an absolute beauty.

Sitting at Universal Orlando Resort, the Hard Rock Hotel Orlando combines theme-park madness with rock-star swagger.

And it’s pretty difficult to complain about that combination.

The hotel is packed with music memorabilia, photographs and rock-inspired details, meaning simply wandering around the place can turn into a miniature museum expedition.

But one of the coolest features is Hard Rock’s Sound of Your Stay programme.

Guests can get access to musical experiences including Fender guitars and vinyl record players, depending on availability.

Yes.

You can effectively go:

“Hello, reception? Could you send a guitar upstairs?”

😂🤘

That’s hotel service we can support.

Then there’s the swimming pool.

Because apparently having a massive resort-style pool wasn’t enough — the hotel has become famous for its underwater sound system, meaning you can still hear the tunes while you’re swimming.

Absolutely unnecessary.

Therefore absolutely brilliant.

And because you’re at Universal Orlando, you’re within walking distance of some of the biggest theme-park attractions on Earth.

Theme parks during the day.

Rock ‘n’ roll hotel at night.

Riff Rating: 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸

🎸 THE GUITAR HOTEL AT SEMINOLE HARD ROCK

📍 Hollywood, Florida, USA

There are subtle music-themed hotels.

And then somebody in Florida apparently walked into a meeting and said:

“Why don’t we just build the entire bloody hotel in the shape of a guitar?”

Everyone nodded.

And somehow The Guitar Hotel happened.

😂🤘

Part of the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood complex, the Guitar Hotel towers over the Florida landscape like someone has dropped a gigantic instrument into the middle of the resort.

The building rises roughly 450 feet into the air, with illuminated beams extending upwards to create the impression of guitar strings disappearing into the sky.

At night, the building becomes part of a spectacular light show.

It is ridiculous.

It is enormous.

It is gloriously over-the-top.

In other words…

It’s rock ‘n’ roll architecture.

Inside you’ll find luxury accommodation, pools, restaurants, entertainment and enough Hard Rock memorabilia to keep music nerds wandering around pointing at things for hours.

If The Riff Report ever builds an office, we’re demanding something similar.

Although realistically we’ll probably get a shed in Merthyr with a Marshall sticker on the door.

Riff Rating: 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸

🎛️ NHOW BERLIN

📍 Berlin, Germany

Now THIS is seriously cool.

Berlin already has one of Europe’s greatest musical cultures, so sticking a music-focused hotel into the German capital makes perfect sense.

But nhow Berlin takes things considerably further than hanging a few framed records on the wall.

The hotel has professional recording studios.

Inside the hotel.

Imagine going downstairs for breakfast and accidentally recording your debut EP before lunch.

😂

Even better?

The hotel has become famous for offering guitar room service, with Gibson guitars available for guests.

That’s right.

Forget:

“Could we have another pillow?”

We want:

“Les Paul, please, butt.”

🎸😂

For musicians travelling through Berlin, this place is genuinely fascinating.

You can explore one of Europe’s greatest music cities, catch a gig, return to the hotel and continue making noise.

Beautiful.

Riff Rating: 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸

🍺 BACKSTAGE HOTEL

📍 Amsterdam, Netherlands

Not every rock hotel needs gigantic swimming pools and buildings shaped like musical instruments.

Sometimes you just want somewhere that feels like the backstage area of your favourite venue.

Enter Backstage Hotel Amsterdam.

This place has proper rock ‘n’ roll character.

Musical instruments decorate the hotel, while rooms and communal spaces embrace the music theme rather than hiding it behind generic luxury-hotel nonsense.

There’s a lively bar atmosphere and plenty of music-inspired decoration.

But perhaps the biggest attraction is the location.

You’re staying in Amsterdam, surrounded by one of Europe’s liveliest nightlife and music scenes, with famous venues including Paradiso and Melkweg nearby.

Basically:

Gig.

Beer.

Hotel.

Sleep.

Repeat.

Now that’s an itinerary.

Riff Rating: 🎸🎸🎸🎸½

🌴 HARD ROCK HOTEL TENERIFE

📍 Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain

Rock music.

Sunshine.

Swimming pools.

Cocktails.

Atlantic Ocean.

Go on then.

Twist our arm.

😂🍺

Hard Rock Hotel Tenerife takes the familiar Hard Rock formula and drops it into holiday paradise.

The resort combines contemporary luxury with music memorabilia, live entertainment and plenty of rock-inspired touches.

It’s basically for people who want a relaxing sunshine holiday but still require guitars within visual range at all times.

Understandable.

Because nothing says peaceful afternoon beside the pool quite like remembering you’ve got Iron Maiden waiting on your Spotify playlist.

Riff Rating: 🎸🎸🎸🎸½

🌊 HARD ROCK HOTEL BALI

📍 Bali, Indonesia

Want to take the rock-star fantasy considerably further?

Welcome to Bali.

Hard Rock Hotel Bali has been bringing rock ‘n’ roll energy to one of the world’s favourite holiday destinations for years.

There’s memorabilia.

There’s live entertainment.

There’s a gigantic swimming pool.

And there’s enough musical branding to ensure you never accidentally forget you’ve booked yourself into Hard Rock.

It’s one of those gloriously strange combinations that somehow works.

Tropical paradise…

…with guitars.

We’ll allow it.

Riff Rating: 🎸🎸🎸🎸½

🏝️ HARD ROCK HOTEL MALDIVES

📍 Maldives

Right.

This is getting silly now.

Picture the Maldives.

Crystal-clear water.

White beaches.

Overwater accommodation.

Palm trees.

Absolute paradise.

Now add rock ‘n’ roll.

🤘🌴

Hard Rock Hotel Maldives manages to combine tropical luxury with the brand’s music obsession.

Guests can enjoy Hard Rock’s familiar music experiences alongside one of the most spectacular holiday settings imaginable.

It’s the kind of place where you could spend the morning snorkelling, the afternoon relaxing beside the ocean and the evening disappearing down a musical rabbit hole.

It’s also possibly the closest most of us will ever get to feeling like a rock star who’s just received their royalty cheque.

Riff Rating: 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸

🇲🇽 HARD ROCK HOTEL RIVIERA MAYA

📍 Mexico

Caribbean coastline?

Check.

Massive resort?

Check.

Rock memorabilia?

Check.

Ridiculous holiday photographs where you’re throwing the horns beside the swimming pool?

Absolutely mandatory.

🤘😂

Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya brings together everything you’d expect from a major Mexican resort with Hard Rock’s obsession with music.

It’s huge, energetic and completely unapologetic.

Which we rather respect.

Riff Rating: 🎸🎸🎸🎸½

🌅 HARD ROCK HOTEL LOS CABOS

📍 Mexico

Mexico clearly understood the assignment.

Hard Rock Hotel Los Cabos is another enormous resort designed to make normal life feel disappointingly dull when you eventually return home.

Music memorabilia and rock-star styling sit alongside pools, restaurants, entertainment and spectacular surroundings.

The difficult bit?

Going back to work afterwards.

“How was your holiday?”

“Great. Now please stop talking to me while I stare sadly at photographs of the swimming pool.”

😂

Riff Rating: 🎸🎸🎸🎸½

🎰 HARD ROCK HOTEL & CASINO PUNTA CANA

📍 Dominican Republic

If your holiday philosophy is GO BIG OR GO HOME, Punta Cana has entered the chat.

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana is enormous.

We’re talking a sprawling Caribbean resort combining accommodation, entertainment, restaurants, pools, casino action and music memorabilia.

It’s less:

“We’ve booked a hotel.”

And more:

“We’ve temporarily moved into a rock ‘n’ roll kingdom.”

You could probably spend several days wandering around without needing to leave the resort.

Although knowing us we’d still somehow locate the nearest Greggs.

Even if it required crossing an ocean.

Riff Rating: 🎸🎸🎸🎸½

🏆 THE RIFF REPORT AWARDS

After wandering around the planet looking for places where you can sleep beneath guitars rather than another depressing print of a lighthouse, we’ve got some winners.

🎸 BEST OVERALL ROCK HOTEL

Hard Rock Hotel Orlando

Theme parks, memorabilia, guitars and an underwater sound system.

Come on.

That’s basically Riff Report Disneyland.

🤘 MOST RIDICULOUS — IN THE BEST POSSIBLE WAY

The Guitar Hotel

They built a skyscraper-sized guitar.

Argument over.

🎛️ BEST HOTEL FOR MUSICIANS

nhow Berlin

Recording studios and guitar room service.

That’s not a hotel.

That’s temptation with a breakfast buffet.

🍺 BEST SMALL ROCK ‘N’ ROLL EXPERIENCE

Backstage Hotel Amsterdam

Less enormous resort, more genuine music-loving atmosphere.

Add Amsterdam’s brilliant venue scene and you’ve got yourself a proper weekend.

🌴 BEST ROCK-STAR FANTASY

Hard Rock Hotel Maldives

Overwater accommodation and guitars.

Keith Richards would probably approve.

🤘 WHY AREN’T THERE MORE METAL HOTELS?!

Here’s our only complaint.

Where are the proper HEAVY METAL hotels?

We want a Black Sabbath hotel in Birmingham.

We want rooms called The Paranoid Suite.

We want lifts playing Iron Maiden.

We want beds shaped like Marshall cabinets.

We want room service delivered by somebody dressed as Eddie.

We want a Motörhead bar where everything is louder than everything else.

And Wales?

Come on, mun.

Give us a Welsh rock hotel somewhere in the Valleys.

Steel walls.

Dragon logos.

Massive guitars.

Breakfast served with enough coffee to resurrect Lemmy.

And obviously it rains horizontally outside.

Perfect.

😂🐉🤘

🎸 TURN THE HOTEL INTO PART OF THE GIG

Music tourism doesn’t have to stop when the encore finishes.

We’re increasingly travelling around Britain, Europe and the wider world for gigs, festivals, museums, legendary venues and pieces of rock history.

So why spend the night somewhere completely forgettable?

Whether it’s ordering a guitar to your room in Berlin, swimming to music in Orlando, staring upwards at a gigantic illuminated guitar in Florida or living your temporary rock-star fantasy in the Maldives, these hotels turn accommodation into part of the adventure.

And that’s precisely how we like travelling at The Riff Report.

Passport?

✅

Band shirts?

✅

Gig tickets?

✅

Phone charger?

Forgotten.

Obviously.

😂

But if the hotel has guitars available…

WE’RE CHECKING IN.

🤘🏨🎸

Which rock or metal-themed hotel would YOU love to stay in? And more importantly, if you could build your own heavy metal hotel, which band would you theme it around?

Black Sabbath?

Iron Maiden?

Metallica?

Motörhead?

Slipknot?

Let the arguments commence, butt. 🤘🔥

The Riff Report — Proudly Welsh. Proudly Loud. Zero Apologies. 🐉🤘

Michael

Michael

🎸 About Michael Michael is the founder, editor and chief riff wrangler of The Riff Report, an independent Welsh rock, metal and alternative music publication built by fans, for fans. A lifelong rock and metal fan, Michael has spent years immersed in the music, culture and community that surround the heavier side of life. From discovering new bands and digging through classic albums to standing in muddy festival fields, squeezing into packed venues and spending far too much time near the front of a stage, music has always been much more than background noise — it is a massive part of who he is. That passion eventually became The Riff Report, a publication created to celebrate the bands, artists, venues, festivals, photographers, promoters and fans who keep the rock and metal world turning. Michael spends much of the year covering gigs, festivals, tours, album releases, new singles, interviews and music news, with a camera never too far away and a press pass usually hanging somewhere around his neck. Whether it is a huge arena show, a major outdoor festival or a tiny grassroots venue packed with people discovering their new favourite band, he believes every part of the scene has stories worth telling. For Michael, one of the biggest joys of music journalism is being able to shine a light on artists at every level. The Riff Report is just as interested in the hungry independent band playing to 50 people as it is in the global act headlining to 50,000. Supporting unsigned, independent and grassroots musicians is a huge part of the publication’s identity, because every legendary band started somewhere. Sometimes the next big thing is not on a massive billboard or a major-label playlist — sometimes they are crammed onto a tiny stage in a pub, plugging in their own gear and hoping somebody in the room remembers their name. Michael wants The Riff Report to be one of the places that remembers.
