Some songs are made for headphones.
Others are made for festival fields.
LN’s “Shield Wall” belongs in the second category.
This is the kind of track that demands raised horns, pounding fists, and a sea of voices shouting every lyric back at the stage. Drawing inspiration from the legendary Viking battle formation, LN deliver another colossal slab of pagan metal that feels every bit as cinematic and powerful as its title suggests.
If Draugr pulled listeners into the shadows of Norse mythology, Shield Wall throws them straight into the middle of the battle.
⚔️ Standing Shoulder to Shoulder
Historically, the shield wall was one of the most feared military formations in Northern Europe.
Warriors locked shields together to create an almost impenetrable wall, relying on unity, courage and absolute trust in those standing beside them.
That same spirit runs throughout the song.
Rather than focusing on a single warrior, Shield Wall celebrates brotherhood, resilience and refusing to back down no matter the odds.
It’s an anthem of strength through unity.
🎸 Riffs That Hit Like Charging Warriors
From the opening seconds, LN unleash a barrage of crushing guitar work that immediately sets the tone.
The riffs are heavy, rhythmic and relentless, marching forward with the determination of an advancing army.
There’s a brilliant balance between melody and aggression throughout the song, allowing every section to feel huge without becoming repetitive.
The rhythm section deserves huge praise too.
The pounding drums and thunderous bass provide the heartbeat of the battlefield, driving everything forward with unstoppable momentum.
🎤 Vocals Worthy of Valhalla
One of LN’s trademarks continues to be the combination of soaring clean vocals and savage growls.
On Shield Wall, both styles are used to perfection.
The harsh vocals deliver raw power and intensity, while the melodic passages add emotion and scale that elevate the song beyond pure brutality.
The contrast creates tension throughout before exploding into enormous choruses that feel tailor-made for live audiences.
🌲 A Visual Feast
The official music video embraces everything that makes LN stand out.
Dark woodland settings, authentic Viking-inspired costumes, striking corpse paint and dramatic cinematography combine to create an immersive experience that perfectly complements the music.
Nothing feels forced.
Instead, every visual reinforces the band’s commitment to building a believable world rooted in Norse mythology.
It feels more like watching an epic historical fantasy than a standard metal video.
🔥 Made for the Festival Stage
This is where Shield Wall will truly come alive.
The stomping rhythms, chant-worthy hooks and commanding energy practically beg for a festival crowd to join in.
You can already imagine hundreds of fans locking shoulders, raising horns in the air and roaring every chorus back at the band.
Songs like this don’t just get played.
They become moments.
🤘 The Riff Report Verdict
LN continue proving they’re one of the UK’s most exciting emerging pagan and Viking metal bands.
Shield Wall builds on everything that made previous releases so compelling while delivering another memorable anthem packed with crushing riffs, huge melodies and cinematic storytelling.
It’s powerful.
It’s emotional.
It’s unapologetically epic.
Most importantly, it feels authentic.
Rather than following trends, LN are forging their own path with music that’s every bit as immersive as the legends that inspire it.
