Some albums are collections of songs.
Others are experiences.

CAIRN, the fourth full-length album from French modern progressive metal outfit Parallel Minds, firmly belongs in the second camp โ€” a towering, 61-minute conceptual beast that doesnโ€™t just hit hard, but means something. This is metal with weight, conscience, and ambition, stacked stone by stone like the monument itโ€™s named after ๐Ÿ—ฟ๐Ÿ”ฅ

After three releases with respected heavy labels Brennus Music, Pitch Black Records, and M&O Music / M&O Office, Parallel Minds now step forward as a key force in the European metal scene, delivering their most expansive, emotionally charged, and globally minded work to date.

๐ŸŽง CAIRN โ€“ Not Just an Album, a Journey

A cairn is a pile of stones left by travellers โ€” a marker of passage, remembrance, and hope. Parallel Minds take that symbol and turn it into a full-blown metal philosophy.

Each track on CAIRN is another stone added to a shared monument of human experience. The album travels through suffering, memory, destruction, resilience, and rebirth, crossing continents and centuries while never losing its emotional core.

This isnโ€™t background noise.
This is full-immersion listening โ€” headphones on, world off, mind open.

๐ŸŒ Themes That Cut Deep

CAIRN tackles real-world trauma and human endurance head-on, without cheap theatrics or surface-level gestures. The stories explored are global, painful, and deeply human:

  • African spiritual traditions and ancestral power (Orishas)
  • The Bhopal industrial disaster in India (Bhopal)
  • The forced deportation of Native American peoples (Trail of Tears)
  • Japanese warfare and history (Sekigahara)
  • The Northern Ireland conflict (Troubles)
  • Displaced peoples of South America (Colonias)
  • Polarisation in the Middle East (On Both Sides)
  • Fear as a modern societal epidemic (Fear Is The Pandemic)

Heavy subject matter, yes โ€” but handled with respect, depth, and genuine empathy.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Sound & Artistic Identity

Parallel Minds operate at the intersection of discipline and emotion. Their DNA carries the influence of bands like Symphony X, Evergrey, Pain Of Salvation, Blind Guardian, and Gojira, while injecting the raw aggression of Testament and Nevermore.

The result is a powerful three-pronged sonic attack:

  • Heavy / Thrash Metal โ€“ organic, direct, punch-you-in-the-chest riffs
  • Progressive Metal โ€“ refined structures, shifting time signatures, emotional dynamics
  • Epic / World Metal โ€“ spiritual weight, atmosphere, and multicultural textures

On CAIRN, these elements fully crystallise into a polymorphic metal sound โ€” brutal yet intelligent, complex yet visceral, aggressive yet deeply conscious ๐Ÿง โค๏ธ

๐ŸŒ Global Voices, Real Authenticity

To honour the stories being told, Parallel Minds surrounded themselves with guest artists from across the world, adding cultural authenticity and emotional gravity rather than gimmicks:

  • Johann (Asylum Pyre) โ€“ backing vocals (Cairn, Sufero)
  • Rock (Arka’n Asrafokor) & Lakoรฉlรฉ Atalawoรจ โ€“ Togolese artists (Orishas)
  • Mathieu Gehin (Muhurta) โ€“ sitar (Bhopal)
  • Michael Rose โ€“ Native American funeral chant (Trail of Tears)
  • Dev (Stone Horns) โ€“ scream vocals (Fear Is The Pandemic)
  • Aileen โ€“ Colombian vocalist (Colonias)

These collaborations elevate CAIRN into something genuinely international โ€” metal as shared memory, not just performance.

๐Ÿ“€ CAIRN โ€“ Tracklist

Total Running Time: 61:11

  1. Cairn โ€“ 1:31
  2. Sufero โ€“ 5:14
  3. Orishas โ€“ 7:39
  4. Bhopal โ€“ 5:41
  5. Trail of Tears โ€“ 9:14
  6. Sekigahara โ€“ 6:28
  7. Troubles โ€“ 7:28
  8. Colonias โ€“ 3:56
  9. On Both Sides โ€“ 9:22
  10. Fear Is The Pandemic โ€“ feat. Dev (Stone Horns)

๐ŸŽธ PARALLEL MINDS โ€“ MEET THE MINDS BEHIND THE RIFFS ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿง

Strap in, mun, because Parallel Minds are one of those bands where everyone in the room is pulling weight. No passengers. No hiding at the back behind a stack of amps. Just pure collaboration, shared fire, and a proper sense of โ€œweโ€™re in this togetherโ€ energy ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Hereโ€™s the line-up doing the damage:

๐ŸŽธ Greg Giraudo โ€“ Guitars & Backing Vocals

Riff architect, tone wizard, and a vocal contributor to boot. Greg also steps up to share lead vocals on โ€œOn Both Sidesโ€ (track 9), adding another layer to the bandโ€™s dynamic attack. Multi-tool operators only, tidy ๐Ÿ‘€

๐ŸŽค Steph Fradet โ€“ Lead & Backing Vocals

Front and centre, commanding the chaos. Stephโ€™s vocals drive the emotional punch of the band โ€” power, control, and that all-important ability to flip from intensity to melody without blinking. Proper spine-tingler stuff.

๐Ÿฅ Eric Mannella โ€“ Drums & Backing Vocals

The engine room. Eric doesnโ€™t just keep time โ€” he shoves the songs forward, adding backing vocals for extra weight. Relentless, precise, and absolutely not here to mess about.

๐ŸŽธ Fabien Peugeot โ€“ Bass

Low-end enforcer. Fabien locks everything together, giving the riffs muscle and the drums something solid to punch against. You might not always see the bass first โ€” but youโ€™ll feel it in your chest, trust us ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

Parallel Minds arenโ€™t just a collection of musicians โ€” theyโ€™re a proper unit. Shared vocals, shared responsibility, shared vision. Thatโ€™s the kind of chemistry that turns good songs into live-wire moments and sweaty front-row memories.

Keep your ears peeled, your neck warmed up, and your speakers insured. These minds are very much worth tapping into ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿ”ฅ

๐Ÿง  Final Thoughts โ€“ Metal With Memory

CAIRN is bold, demanding, and emotionally uncompromising. It rewards patience, attention, and repeat listens. This is metal that challenges the mind while punching the gut, proving that heaviness and humanity can โ€” and should โ€” coexist.

Parallel Minds havenโ€™t just released an album here.
Theyโ€™ve built a monument.

And itโ€™s one hell of a thing to stand in front of ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿ—ฟ๐Ÿ”ฅ
