The first official trailer for Neil Peart: No One’s Disciple, the forthcoming feature-length documentary celebrating the extraordinary life, artistry and legacy of legendary Rush drummer and lyricist Neil Peart, has arrived.
And bloody hell, Rush fans… this looks special.
Rather than simply rattling through the familiar story of one of rock music’s greatest drummers, No One’s Disciple promises something much more personal — exploring the musician, writer, friend and famously private human being behind that enormous drum kit.
Featuring Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, Stewart Copeland, Danny Carey, Chad Smith and Gavin Harrison, alongside rare archive footage of Peart himself, this could be one of the most important rock documentaries of recent years.

The newly released trailer mixes archive footage of Peart with emotional reflections from those who knew him, while also bringing together some absolutely ridiculous drumming talent.

Director Sam Dunn has explained that although audiences know Peart as the phenomenal drummer and lyricist behind Rush, considerably less is known about the person away from the stage.

Albums including 2112, A Farewell to Kings, Hemispheres, Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures and Signals helped establish Rush as progressive-rock giants.
But Peart’s contribution went considerably further than sitting behind the drum kit.

Neil Peart: No One’s Disciple is directed by Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn, the filmmakers behind the acclaimed 2010 documentary Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage.
That previous film remains one of the definitive documentaries about Rush, meaning Peart’s story is being handled by filmmakers already deeply familiar with the band’s history.
The new documentary runs for approximately 96 minutes and is produced by Banger Films and Elevation Pictures.
🇨🇦 World Premiere At TIFF
Neil Peart: No One’s Disciple will receive its world premiere at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival on Wednesday, 16 September.
A further public screening follows on 19 September.
Canadian viewers won’t have to wait much longer after that.
The documentary is scheduled to premiere on CBC and CBC Gem on Wednesday, 23 September 2026, as part of CBC’s The Passionate Eye strand.
For Rush fans outside Canada, an exact wider release schedule hasn’t yet been announced, although Republic Pictures has acquired rights outside Canada.

Neil Peart died on 7 January 2020, aged 67, following a battle with glioblastoma.
His death sent shockwaves through the rock world.
For millions of Rush fans, Peart wasn’t simply an incredible drummer.
He was someone whose lyrics accompanied people through their lives.
For musicians, he was inspiration.
For drummers, he was simultaneously inspiration and the reason you occasionally wanted to throw your sticks across the rehearsal room after attempting another Rush song.
And for Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson, he was their friend and musical brother.
More than six years later, his influence remains absolutely enormous.

Seeing Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson playing Rush music alongside some of the greatest drummers alive should be spectacular.
But hearing them talk about their mate?
That’s probably going to be the bit that gets us.
