From mountain chill to miffed campers โ has Steelhouseโs safe vibe shifted?
Steelhouse Festival has long been the kind of place where you could leave your tent open, your chair in the arena, and your hoodie on the barrier while you went to grab a pint โ and nobody would touch it. Tidy vibes only. ๐๏ธ๐ฆ ๐
But this year, something changed. Security were seen removing people from the arena โ and not in the friendly, โCome on mate, time for bedโ way. Some fans reported being pulled aside, others escorted off-site entirely. ๐ณ
Now donโt get us wrong โ Steelhouse is still one of the safest, kindest, most respectful rock festivals in the UK (if not the top dog). Families feel welcome, teens get their first taste of live rock, and veteran moshers swap beer tokens and stories like weโre all part of the same tribe. But seeing multiple people ejected left a few regulars scratching their heads and askingโฆ
โIs the vibe changing on the mountain?โ โฐ๏ธ
Weโve had years where your camping chair would survive four days of rain, wind, and cider spillages without ever being nicked. Where the biggest crime was someone belting Bon Jovi at 3AM. ๐ค
But this year?
Arena belongings were moved or vanished. Reports of โrowdy behaviourโ (a first for this normally chilled crowd). Security seemed more on-edge โ or just had a tougher brief?
Weโre not here to bash the Steelhouse team โ far from it! Theyโve built something lush and legendary on top of that mountain. But we do think itโs worth asking:
๐ง Has something shifted in the crowd, or are the new rules just being enforced more strictly?
Some fan quotes we heard in the campsite:
๐ฃ๏ธ โIt used to be the kind of place you didnโt lock your car. Now Iโm watching my merch like a hawk.โ
๐ฃ๏ธ โIโve never seen someone actually kicked out before โ not like that. It was a bit harsh.โ
๐ฃ๏ธ โSecurity were doing their job, but they looked stressed. Something was definitely different this year.โ
What Could Be Causing It?
More people? Itโs definitely growing, with bigger crowds year-on-year. That means more variables. Post-COVID crowd shift? Some festivals have noticed younger, rowdier punters attending since lockdown lifted. Crackdown on drink & drugs? Thatโs often a reason behind increased security action.
But still โ Steelhouse has always been about trust, community, and rock โnโ roll respect. And we hope this isnโt a sign of that slipping. If someone was out of line, sure, fair enough โ no one wants aggro when theyโre trying to enjoy a bit of Those Damn Crows or Black Stone Cherry.
But if this is a sign of overzealous security or changing crowd behaviour, it might be time for a tidy chat between the organisers and the fans. Because we all want to keep that magical mountain feeling alive. ๐ด๐ฅ
Final Thoughts
Steelhouse, we love you. But this year felt different. Not bad. Justโฆ less relaxed. And if we canโt trust our fold-up chair and our leftover chips to be there when we get back from the bar, what are we even doing? ๐
Letโs keep this festival the way itโs always been:
Safe. Friendly. Rockinโ. And full of sound people who look after each other. ๐ค
