If you needed proof that some people completely lose their minds at gigs, here it is, butt. ๐ฉ๐บ
Bring Me The Horizon frontman Oli Sykes was struck in the head by a mobile phone during the bandโs massive show at the Enterprise Centre in St Louis, Missouri โ and safe to sayโฆ he was NOT impressed. ๐
The incident happened during BMTHโs packed-out performance at the 22,000-capacity arena on Monday night. Fan footage doing the rounds online shows Oli crouching down near the front of the stage before suddenly getting smacked in the head by what appears to be a phone launched from somewhere in the crowd.
Because apparently weโre now living in a world where people think gigs are dodgeball tournaments. Proper bizarre behaviour, mun. ๐ฑ๐จ
๐ค โYOU F**KINโ TOSSER!โ
Never one to hold back, Oli immediately picked up the offending projectile and unleashed the kind of response that instantly belongs in the Rock & Metal Hall Of Fame:
โWho the fk just threw a phone at my fkinโ head? You f**kinโ tosser.โ
Honestly? Fair play. ๐๐ค
The crowd erupted as the BMTH singer fired back with peak British rage energy, sounding like every bloke in Wales after someone spills their pint at the bar during the chorus of Can You Feel My Heart.
And letโs be honest hereโฆ if you throw a phone at a musician mid-performance, getting publicly roasted by Oli Sykes in front of 22,000 people is probably the least you deserve. ๐
๐ค Thankfully Oli Is OK
After the incident, Oli Sykes later reassured fans on social media that he was alright and hadnโt been seriously injured.
Which is lucky really, because phones arenโt exactly lightweight these days. One of those things catches you wrong and suddenly your gig turns into an NHS waiting room speedrun. ๐ฌ
Still, the whole thing has sparked another wave of conversation about crowd behaviour at live shows โ something thatโs become a proper issue across gigs and festivals over the last few years.
๐ค Gig Chaos Is Greatโฆ Until It Isnโt
Now lookโฆ we love chaos at The Riff Report.
We love circle pits.
We love crowd surfers.
We love seeing someone dressed as a banana stage-diving during breakdowns. ๐๐ฅ
Thatโs rock โnโ roll, butt.
But thereโs a massive difference between good chaotic energy and acting like an absolute helmet.
Bands put everything into live performances โ especially a group like Bring Me The Horizon whose shows are emotional, explosive, theatrical spectacles full of pyro, visuals, crowd interaction and enough energy to power the national grid.
The last thing artists should have to worry about is dodging airborne iPhones while trying to perform.
๐ฅ BMTH Still Reigning Supreme
Thankfully, the incident didnโt derail the show, and Bring Me The Horizon continue their monster run as one of the biggest live rock bands on the planet.
Whether theyโre headlining arenas, tearing up festivals or dropping genre-bending anthems that split the internet in half, BMTH remain absolutely untouchable when it comes to live intensity.
But maybe next time, letโs keep the phones in our pockets instead of trying to recreate WrestleMania from Row G, aye? ๐ ๐ฑ
Stay safe in the pit, respect the bands, and remember:
Throw horns ๐ค
Not smartphones ๐ฑโ
