Location: Hurricane Festival, Germany
Date: Friday, 19th June 2025
Headline Set: The Prodigy
Genre: Rave apocalypse meets punk anarchy
Vibes: Nuclear. 🔊🧨💀

🖤 Welcome to the Danger Zone

From the moment you stepped onto the grounds of Hurricane Festival on Thursday night, you could feel it in the air. Something electric. Something feral. Something LOUD.

Because The Prodigy were back. Not just back — but back to burn the whole place to the ground. 🔥

As the sun dipped behind the German horizon, the stage transformed into a glowing altar to chaos. The crowd swelled like a tidal wave of anticipation, and when Liam Howlett strolled to his rig — like some demonic DJ from a dystopian underworld — we knew: it was about to go off. 😈

And it did.

🎤 Firestarters Still Burning

Let’s make one thing clear: The Prodigy aren’t a nostalgia act. They’re not here for a victory lap or to play the hits and clock out.

Nah, butt.

They’re still tearing through stages like it’s 1996. Still snarling. Still innovating. Still loud enough to make your organs shift.

When Maxim erupted onto the mic, dressed like a post-apocalyptic priest of rave, the crowd exploded. His voice? Raw. Ripping. Relentless. Every line delivered like it was a curse. Every scream, a challenge.

He doesn’t just perform — he possesses the space.

And while we forever miss the uncontainable spirit of the late Keith Flint, his presence lingers in every light flicker, every riotous drop, every scream of “I’m a firestarter!” 🖤

The Hurricane faithful gave it back tenfold. There were mosh pits. Rave circles. People howling into the German night sky. And let’s not forget the guy in the gas mask and glittery tutu crowd-surfing on a flamingo lilo. Only at a Prodigy gig, mun. 🤣

🔥 Setlist from the Depths of Hell

Prodigy’s Thursday night setlist was pure carnage from start to finish. No filler. Just killers.

The Bangers That Made Us Lose Our Minds:

🎵 “Breathe” – That opening riff is pure menace. The entire crowd lost its mind in unison. Like someone detonated a beat-bomb.

🎵 “Omen” – You could feel it. That bass? It didn’t just drop. It cratered the field.
“The writing’s on the wall…” – followed by pure chaos.

🎵 “Voodoo People” – An anthem. A ritual. A war cry. The rave sirens screamed as bodies flew through the air.

🎵 “Firestarter” – Tribute moment. Phones lit up the sky (ironically, they’d fit in well at WARGASM’s phone-free gig 😉). Keith’s face flashed across the visuals, and you could feel the love pouring out of the pit.

🎵 “Their Law” – One word: mayhem. That double-drum intro sparked the wildest mosh pit of the festival so far. Security just backed off and let it unfold like some tribal storm.

🎵 “Smack My Bitch Up” – Closer. Finisher. Soul-snatcher. That final drop had every neck in the vicinity snapping in time. And when it faded into a slow, eerie outro… goosebumps, butt. Actual goosebumps.

🎶 New Track Teaser:

Mid-set, Liam unleashed a brand-new unreleased track — name still under wraps. But make no mistake: this wasn’t a throwaway B-side. This was raw Prodigy 3.0, all jagged breakbeats, distorted synths, and warped vocals that sound like a rave gone rogue. The crowd didn’t just love it — they demanded more.

⚡ Sound and Fury: Production That Slapped

Let’s talk production.

Lasers? Blinding.
Strobes? Like being inside a malfunctioning robot’s dreams.
LED walls? Pulsing with insane graphics and glitchy anarchic visuals.

And the sound system? HOO BOY. Hurricane Festival stepped it up this year. You didn’t just hear The Prodigy — you felt them. In your ribcage. In your knees. In your ancestors.

It wasn’t a show. It was a full-sensory war zone.

Even the drizzle (it wouldn’t be a Euro festival without rain, c’mon now 😅) just added to the atmosphere. Watching the crowd rave through the fog, lasers slicing through mist, it looked like Blade Runner meets Mad Max.

💀 Mosh Pits, Mayhem, and Mad Moments

You don’t just attend a Prodigy show. You survive it.

And this Hurricane crowd? Survivors.

There were pits the size of paddling pools, people forming human chains to stay standing, and the occasional beer geyser launching skyward like a pint-based fountain of joy. 🍺

Some standout scenes:

  • A German lad in a boiler suit air-punching to every beat like his life depended on it.
  • An inflatable shark passed around the crowd like it was holy rave relic.
  • One bloke in a Prodigy bucket hat sobbing during “Firestarter” while still headbanging. Respect. 🫡

Maxim spotted a kid on someone’s shoulders and pointed directly at him during a breakdown. “That’s your next firestarter right there!” he shouted. Crowd roared. That kid probably levitated. 🔥

🧠 Legacy and Evolution

It’s easy to forget sometimes: The Prodigy have been wrecking stages since the early 90s. That’s three decades of sonic domination.

They invented the sound that lives in the cracks between punk, drum & bass, rave, and raw, unfiltered rage. And they’re still refining it. Still pushing it. Still burning brighter than bands half their age.

Liam Howlett deserves a statue. Or a rave cathedral. Maybe both. The way he blends chaos and precision, fury and groove — it’s nothing short of wizardry.

Their music feels relevant because it’s always been ahead of its time. Listening to them now feels as fresh as the first time you heard “No Good (Start the Dance)” while your mate’s older brother blasted it through blown speakers in the ‘90s.

📣 Crowd Reactions – Straight from the Battlefield

We grabbed a few soundbites from the soaked and stunned crowd after the set:

“That wasn’t a gig. That was an exorcism with bass.” – Lukas, Hamburg

“My ears are bleeding and I’m pretty sure I’ve time-travelled.” – Beth, Bristol

“Keith would’ve loved that. They did him proud.” – Jakob, Dresden

“Lost my shoe in the pit. Worth it.” – A girl in a luminous green mohawk (respect).

🧢 Merch, Madness & Moments

Merch tent was rammed post-show. The best-sellers?

  • “I START FIRES” tee 🔥
  • Keith Flint tribute patches 🖤
  • Glow-in-the-dark rave beanies

And let’s talk about the afterparty vibes. Prodigy fans don’t just leave and sleep. Nah. There were spontaneous drum & bass breakouts across the campsite until sunrise. Tents glowing with strobes. Someone wheeled in a speaker rig on a shopping trolley. It was like a post-apocalyptic warehouse party… but with sausages and hangovers.

🏁 Final Verdict – A Set for the Ages

So what do we say?

Thursday at Hurricane Festival 2025? Prodigy’s night.

They brought fire. They brought fury. They brought the kind of set that transcends music and becomes legend.

Their sound is still untamed, still ferocious, and still unmatched.

And if you missed it? I’m sorry, butt — you missed one of the most electrifying headline sets of the decade.

If this is what Thursday looks like, the rest of the festival better strap in. Because Prodigy just raised the bar to the fookin’ moon. 🌕

🧷 Final Scorecard

🔥 Category🎧 Verdict
Setlist10/10 – Pure banger central
Stage Presence11/10 – Maxim is a man possessed
Tribute to KeithEmotional. Powerful. Beautiful. 🖤
Crowd EnergyUtter madness. In the best way.

Mosh Pit ChaosDangerous. Delicious. Diolch.
Overall VibeThis is what festivals are for 👑

🖤 For Keith. For the Rave. For the Rebellion.

The Prodigy are eternal.
Not because they play the hits.
But because they never stopped lighting the fuse.

We danced. We raged. We screamed.
And in the middle of it all,
we remembered why we love music in the first place.

Louder. Harder. Faster. Forever.

Want more Prodigy chaos, live updates from the festival trenches, or just wanna rant about the guy who elbowed you in the pit? Hit up the comments below, or find us in the campsite blaring “Invaders Must Die” at 4AM.

C’mon butt – we rave together.

Michael

Michael

🎸 About Michael Michael is the founder, editor and chief riff wrangler of The Riff Report, an independent Welsh rock, metal and alternative music publication built by fans, for fans. A lifelong rock and metal fan, Michael has spent years immersed in the music, culture and community that surround the heavier side of life. From discovering new bands and digging through classic albums to standing in muddy festival fields, squeezing into packed venues and spending far too much time near the front of a stage, music has always been much more than background noise — it is a massive part of who he is. That passion eventually became The Riff Report, a publication created to celebrate the bands, artists, venues, festivals, photographers, promoters and fans who keep the rock and metal world turning. Michael spends much of the year covering gigs, festivals, tours, album releases, new singles, interviews and music news, with a camera never too far away and a press pass usually hanging somewhere around his neck. Whether it is a huge arena show, a major outdoor festival or a tiny grassroots venue packed with people discovering their new favourite band, he believes every part of the scene has stories worth telling. For Michael, one of the biggest joys of music journalism is being able to shine a light on artists at every level. The Riff Report is just as interested in the hungry independent band playing to 50 people as it is in the global act headlining to 50,000. Supporting unsigned, independent and grassroots musicians is a huge part of the publication’s identity, because every legendary band started somewhere. Sometimes the next big thing is not on a massive billboard or a major-label playlist — sometimes they are crammed onto a tiny stage in a pub, plugging in their own gear and hoping somebody in the room remembers their name. Michael wants The Riff Report to be one of the places that remembers.
