Founded by Ivar Bjørnson (guitar wizard) and Grutle Kjellson (growly Viking lord), Enslaved started as a young, furious black metal band inspired by the Norse sagas and Bathory’s icy tones. But they quickly evolved – and never stopped evolving.
Over the last 30+ years, they’ve become one of metal’s most innovative bands – still brutal when they need to be, but not afraid to go full prog with spacey keys, clean vocals, and 10-minute epics about time, runes, and death.
