Nearly 30 years after one of the most infamous killings in music history, a jury has found Duane “Keffe D” Davis guilty over the murder of rap legend Tupac Shakur.
One of music’s longest-running murder mysteries has finally reached a landmark moment.
Duane “Keffe D” Davis has been found guilty of first-degree murder with a deadly weapon in connection with the 1996 killing of Tupac Shakur, bringing an extraordinary chapter in hip-hop history closer to a conclusion almost three decades after the rapper was gunned down in Las Vegas.
The verdict was delivered in Las Vegas after jurors deliberated for approximately three hours.
Davis, a former leader associated with the South Side Compton Crips, was not accused of personally firing the bullets that killed Tupac. Instead, prosecutors argued that he orchestrated and helped facilitate the fatal drive-by shooting, including obtaining or providing the weapon used in the attack.
It is a verdict that would have seemed almost unimaginable for much of the past 30 years.

Now, a jury has delivered a guilty verdict.

On the night of 7 September 1996, Tupac Shakur attended the Mike Tyson vs Bruce Seldon boxing match at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Following the fight, an altercation took place inside the hotel involving Tupac, members of his entourage and Orlando Anderson — Davis’s nephew.
Hours later, Tupac was travelling along Las Vegas Boulevard in a black BMW driven by Death Row Records co-founder Marion “Suge” Knight.
At approximately 11:15pm, a white Cadillac pulled alongside the BMW at a junction.
Gunfire erupted.
Tupac was struck multiple times.
Knight was also injured during the attack, but survived.
Tupac was rushed to hospital in critical condition and died from his injuries six days later, on 13 September 1996.
He was only 25 years old.
Twenty-five.
An age that still feels almost impossible when you consider just how enormous Tupac’s cultural footprint became.
⚖️ Prosecutors Said Davis Helped Organise the Attack
The prosecution’s case centred on the allegation that Davis played a key role in organising the retaliation following the earlier MGM Grand confrontation.
Although prosecutors did not accuse Davis of being the gunman, they argued that he helped arrange the attack and supplied or obtained the firearm.
Davis had spoken publicly about the events surrounding Tupac’s death on numerous occasions over the years, including in interviews and his memoir.
Those statements eventually became a significant part of the renewed investigation surrounding the killing.
Davis was arrested in September 2023, almost exactly 27 years after Tupac’s death.
His arrest stunned the music world.
For years, the assumption among many fans had been that nobody would ever face trial over the murder.
Yet nearly three decades after that September night in Las Vegas, the case finally reached a courtroom.
And now it has produced a conviction.

Tupac’s murder became one of the most infamous unsolved cases in entertainment history.
Over the years, countless theories emerged regarding who pulled the trigger, who ordered the attack and whether the killing was connected to the notorious East Coast-West Coast hip-hop rivalry of the 1990s.
The murder of The Notorious B.I.G. — Christopher Wallace — just six months later only intensified the mystery.
Biggie was shot and killed in Los Angeles on 9 March 1997.
He was just 24.
Two of hip-hop’s biggest stars were dead within six months of one another.
The killings became inseparable from the mythology surrounding one of music’s most turbulent eras.
Documentaries were made.
Books were written.
Witnesses were interviewed.
Conspiracy theories exploded.
Yet year after year passed without anyone being convicted over Tupac’s death.
Until now.

Davis has indicated that he intends to appeal the conviction.
He faces the possibility of life imprisonment without parole, with sentencing scheduled for 13 October 2026.
That means the legal story surrounding Tupac Shakur’s murder may not be completely finished.
But the guilty verdict represents something the rapper’s fans waited almost three decades to see:
Someone being held criminally responsible for his killing.
