Right then, grab a candle, stick the kettle on (or crack a beer, no judgement here 🍺), and prepare yourself for something properly spellbinding…
French gothic doom sorcerers Angellore are back, and they’ve brought with them a record that’s been brewing in the shadows for over a decade. No joke. This isn’t just an album drop — this is a slow-burning, emotionally loaded, twilight-drenched resurrection.
Say hello to Nocturnes. And trust us, butt… this one hits different. 🖤
🕯️ FROM DARK ROOTS TO DOOM ROYALTY
Born back in 2007, Angellore emerged from the creative collision of Rosarius and Walran — two souls united by a love of the most beautifully miserable music imaginable (our kind of people, mun 🤘).
Since then, they’ve carved out a lush, melancholic legacy with two EPs and three full-length albums, earning serious praise across the underground. Their 2020 release Rien Ne Devait Mourir was even described as “a distant light on the horizon” by the mighty Angry Metal Guy — and if you know, you know.
But behind the scenes? Something bigger was brewing…
⏳ TEN YEARS IN THE SHADOWS
Here’s where it gets mad — Nocturnes has been quietly taking shape since 2010. That’s right. While the world cracked on, Angellore were crafting this beast in secret, layering emotion, atmosphere and sheer gothic drama into something massive.
And now? It’s finally ready to step into the light… or, more accurately, the moonlight 🌕
🌲 A DARK FAIRYTALE IN FIVE PARTS
This isn’t your standard album, mind. Nocturnes is a five-track journey into a world of:
🌧️ Storm-lashed nights
💔 Desperate, aching love
🌲 Folklore and shadowy woods
🕯️ Magic, melancholy and mystery
Musically, it’s lush as hell. We’re talking flute, oboe, bass clarinet, cello and piano all swirling together with crushing guitars and haunting vocals. It doesn’t just sound big — it feels like stepping into another realm entirely.
Standout moments?
‘Black Sun River’ – dripping in dark beauty and poisonous elegance
‘Martyrium’ – all starlight, shadows and heart-wrenching emotion
‘A Dormant Stream’ – a final, aching farewell that’ll leave you staring into space like you’ve just been dumped in the rain
This is full-body listening, mun. Not background noise — this grabs you by the soul and drags you into its world.
🔥 FORGED THROUGH STRUGGLE, PERFECTED IN DARKNESS
The road to Nocturnes hasn’t been easy. Recorded across multiple locations in Europe and shaped over years of hardship, this album carries every ounce of that struggle in its bones.
Handled with absolute care:
🎚️ Engineered & Mixed by Déhà (Inborn Suffering, Wolvennest, Cult Of Erinyes)
🎧 Mastered by Markus Skroch (October Falls, Sig:Ar:Tyr, The Chasm)
🎨 Artwork by Florent “Celin” Castellani (yes, the band’s own — proper DIY artistry!)
Everything here has been meticulously crafted, and it shows. This isn’t rushed. This isn’t safe. This is art that’s been lived in.
🖤 RIFF REPORT VERDICT
If you like your doom metal with actual emotion, atmosphere thicker than Welsh fog, and enough gothic drama to make a vampire blush — Nocturnes is going to absolutely ruin you (in the best way possible).
Angellore haven’t just written an album here… they’ve created a world.
And honestly? We’re more than happy to get lost in it.
