Sonny Sandoval and Co. Bring the Energy to Donington
Download Festival 2026 is well and truly underway, and one band that made sure the party started early was none other than P.O.D.
The Californian rock veterans hit the Apex Stage and delivered an absolutely explosive performance that had Downloaders singing, jumping and throwing their fists into the air from the very first song. With the sun finally shining over Donington Park, the atmosphere was perfect for a set packed full of energy, positivity and massive riffs.
For many fans making their way into the arena for the first full day of music, P.O.D. provided the perfect soundtrack to kick-start the weekend.
A Band That Knows How To Work A Festival Crowd
Festival stages can be a difficult challenge. You’ve got a mixture of die-hard fans, curious newcomers and people simply wandering past looking for something to grab their attention.
P.O.D. didn’t just grab attention โ they owned the stage.
Frontman Sonny Sandoval was in fantastic form throughout the set, bouncing across the stage and encouraging the Donington faithful to get involved at every opportunity. His infectious enthusiasm spread through the crowd like wildfire as thousands of Downloaders responded with singalongs, raised horns and plenty of movement in the pit.
The band’s trademark blend of hard rock, nu-metal and uplifting messages felt tailor-made for the Download audience.
Donington Was Ready To Party
The crowd response was phenomenal.
From the front barrier right to the back of the field, fans could be seen singing along, clapping overhead and embracing the feel-good vibes that P.O.D. bring to every performance.
It was one of those sets where it didn’t matter whether you’d been following the band since the late 1990s or had only recently discovered them. The energy was infectious, and the atmosphere was exactly what Download Festival is all about.
As the band powered through their set, Donington came alive with circle pits, crowd surfing and countless smiles.
Veterans Still At The Top Of Their Game
After more than three decades in the music industry, P.O.D. continue to prove why they remain one of the most respected names in alternative rock.
Many bands slow down with age.
P.O.D. clearly haven’t got that memo.
The band’s chemistry was obvious throughout the performance, with every member looking completely locked in and enjoying every second on stage. The sound was huge, the crowd interaction was constant and the overall performance reminded everyone why the group remain a festival favourite around the world.
The Perfect Start To Download Weekend
With a stacked Download line-up featuring some of the biggest names in rock and metal, competition for standout performances is fierce.
Yet P.O.D. managed to leave a lasting impression and set the tone for the rest of the weekend.
The combination of heavy riffs, uplifting energy and festival-sized choruses created one of the most enjoyable sets of the day and proved that the band still know exactly how to connect with a massive audience.
If this performance is anything to go by, Download Festival 2026 is shaping up to be something very special indeed.
