Blur’s Dave Rowntree ‘Nagged’ Oasis About Reunion — Now He Wants a Cut of the Tour Money 😂🎸

Britpop’s greatest rivalry has apparently reached the “where’s my commission?” stage — and we are absolutely here for it.

Blur drummer Dave Rowntree has joked that he deserves a slice of the cash from Oasis’ reunion after claiming he spent years encouraging the Gallagher brothers to get the band back together.

Yep.

Forget managers, promoters and agents.

Apparently Oasis needed Dave from Blur repeatedly going:

“Go on, lads. You know you want to.” 😂

Speaking about the reunion, Rowntree revealed:

“I’ve been nagging them to do exactly that for years.”

And then came the kicker:

“I would like a percentage of the gross tour revenue.”

Absolutely magnificent.

Thirty years after Blur and Oasis were being presented as mortal enemies during the Britpop wars, one side is now jokingly sending the other an invoice.

Rock ’n’ roll grows up in strange ways, mun. 🤘

🎸 From Britpop Battlefields to Reunion Banter

Anyone who remembers the mid-1990s will know just how ridiculous — and brilliant — the Blur versus Oasis rivalry became.

These weren’t simply two successful British bands.

For a while, they were treated like opposing armies.

Blur represented one corner.

Oasis represented the other.

Newspapers picked sides.

Fans picked sides.

Radio stations picked sides.

Your uncle who hadn’t bought a new record since 1978 probably picked a side.

And then came the infamous 1995 chart battle between Blur’s ‘Country House’ and Oasis’ ‘Roll With It’.

Blur won that particular Number One showdown, but Oasis would soon become an absolute monster of British rock.

The whole thing became one of the defining stories of Britpop.

Three decades later, though?

The atmosphere seems considerably friendlier.

Instead of verbal grenades being lobbed across the music press, Dave Rowntree is joking about getting a percentage of Oasis’ reunion money.

That’s progress.

Probably.

😂

💰 “Where’s My Cut?”

Rowntree’s comment is obviously tongue-in-cheek, but it’s exactly the kind of dry Britpop humour we can get behind.

If you’ve genuinely spent years telling one of the biggest British bands of all time that they should reunite — and then they actually do it — surely you’re allowed to at least ask for a finder’s fee?

A few quid?

A crate of beer?

A complimentary bucket hat?

Maybe a backstage wristband and unrestricted access to the catering?

Come on, Noel.

Don’t be tight.

😂🍺

And given the enormous excitement surrounding Oasis getting back together, even the smallest percentage of the gross revenue wouldn’t exactly be pocket change.

Dave may have been joking.

But you can guarantee somebody in the Blur camp has already opened Excel.

🤝 Blur and Oasis Will Always Be Connected

The fascinating thing about Blur and Oasis is that neither band can completely escape the other.

Mention Blur and sooner or later someone brings up Oasis.

Mention Oasis and somebody inevitably starts talking about Blur.

Talk about Britpop for longer than about twelve seconds and both bands are immediately in the conversation.

Rowntree himself has acknowledged that the rivalry effectively linked the two groups forever.

And really, he’s right.

Whatever the musicians themselves thought about the media circus at the time, the rivalry became part of British musical folklore.

Beatles vs Stones.

Metallica vs Megadeth.

Blur vs Oasis.

Music fans love a rivalry.

Even when half of it has been exaggerated by headlines, fan tribalism and people desperately needing something to argue about in the pub.

❤️ The Rivalry Looks Very Different Now

One of the nicest things about Rowntree’s comments is that they show just how much time has softened the edges of the old Britpop feud.

Back in the ’90s, everything seemed combustible.

Every quote became a headline.

Every chart position became a declaration of war.

Every interview threatened to produce another insult.

Now?

Dave Rowntree appears genuinely pleased that Oasis are back and is happy to joke about having played some tiny role in encouraging it.

That’s rather lovely, actually.

Don’t worry.

We won’t get sentimental.

Someone put Parklife on before this gets embarrassing.

🥁 Blur Know a Thing or Two About Reunions

Of course, Rowntree knows exactly what it feels like to return to a band after time apart.

Blur themselves have reunited on multiple occasions, proving there’s always room for another chapter when the chemistry, timing and appetite are right.

Their own comeback shows demonstrated just how powerful nostalgia can be when it’s backed up by a catalogue full of belters.

Because reunion tours aren’t only about revisiting the past.

When they’re done properly, they can remind everyone why the band mattered in the first place.

That’s exactly why Oasis returning generated such enormous excitement.

These songs aren’t museum pieces.

For millions of people, they’re tied to friendships, nights out, relationships, football trips, festivals, family memories and questionable hairstyles.

When those opening chords hit, people don’t just hear a song.

They’re transported.

That’s the magic.

🔥 Imagine Blur and Oasis Properly Active at the Same Time Again

Now here’s where things could get dangerous.

Imagine Blur announcing another major run while Oasis are still very much active.

Suddenly the ’90s are back.

Bucket hats everywhere.

Union Jack guitars.

Parkas.

Adidas.

Lads confidently explaining Britpop history despite being born in 2004.

The newspapers would absolutely lose their minds.

“BLUR VS OASIS 2: THIS TIME THEY HAVE LOWER BACK PAIN.”

We’d read it.

You’d read it.

Everyone would read it.

And somewhere, Damon Albarn would probably wonder how the hell this happened again.

🎤 Britpop’s Greatest Rivalry Has Become One Big In-Joke

There’s something strangely perfect about the evolution of Blur versus Oasis.

What started as an intense cultural rivalry has become something closer to shared history.

Both bands helped define a generation.

Both produced enormous songs.

Both became far bigger than anyone could have predicted during their early club days.

And both will forever be connected by one particularly chaotic period in British music.

So when Dave Rowntree jokes that he deserves a percentage of Oasis’ reunion revenue?

It lands perfectly.

Because underneath the joke is something genuinely quite cool.

The supposed enemies of Britpop are older, wiser and seemingly far more comfortable celebrating each other’s success.

🤘 The Riff Report Verdict

Dave Rowntree might not actually receive a percentage of Oasis’ tour revenue.

But spiritually?

We’re saying he deserves at least 0.0001%.

He says he nagged them.

They reunited.

Case closed.

Send the cheque.

😂💰

More importantly, it’s brilliant seeing the old Blur and Oasis rivalry now producing laughs instead of tabloid warfare.

The Battle of Britpop may be history, but these two bands are going to remain tied together forever.

And perhaps that’s exactly how it should be.

Now comes the question guaranteed to start an argument in every British pub from Cardiff to Manchester:

🎸 Blur or Oasis?

Choose wisely, butt.

We’ve seen friendships end over less. 😂🔥

Proudly Welsh. Proudly Loud. 🤘🏴

Michael

Michael

🎸 About Michael Michael is the founder, editor and chief riff wrangler of The Riff Report, an independent Welsh rock, metal and alternative music publication built by fans, for fans. A lifelong rock and metal fan, Michael has spent years immersed in the music, culture and community that surround the heavier side of life. From discovering new bands and digging through classic albums to standing in muddy festival fields, squeezing into packed venues and spending far too much time near the front of a stage, music has always been much more than background noise — it is a massive part of who he is. That passion eventually became The Riff Report, a publication created to celebrate the bands, artists, venues, festivals, photographers, promoters and fans who keep the rock and metal world turning. Michael spends much of the year covering gigs, festivals, tours, album releases, new singles, interviews and music news, with a camera never too far away and a press pass usually hanging somewhere around his neck. Whether it is a huge arena show, a major outdoor festival or a tiny grassroots venue packed with people discovering their new favourite band, he believes every part of the scene has stories worth telling. For Michael, one of the biggest joys of music journalism is being able to shine a light on artists at every level. The Riff Report is just as interested in the hungry independent band playing to 50 people as it is in the global act headlining to 50,000. Supporting unsigned, independent and grassroots musicians is a huge part of the publication’s identity, because every legendary band started somewhere. Sometimes the next big thing is not on a massive billboard or a major-label playlist — sometimes they are crammed onto a tiny stage in a pub, plugging in their own gear and hoping somebody in the room remembers their name. Michael wants The Riff Report to be one of the places that remembers.
