The country music legend’s famous star is shining once again after mindless damage left her name covered in scratches.
There are some things you simply don’t mess with — and Dolly Parton’s legacy is right near the top of that list, butt. 🤘
The late country music icon’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame has been completely restored after it was disgracefully vandalised shortly after her death.
The monument, located at 6712 Hollywood Boulevard, was found with deep scratches running across Dolly’s name. The damage was discovered as fans continued to visit the spot, leaving flowers, cards and heartfelt tributes in honour of one of music’s most universally loved figures.
Quite why anyone would choose to damage a memorial to Dolly Parton is anybody’s guess. Honestly, mun, some people could start an argument in an empty Greggs.
Thankfully, the vandal didn’t get the final word.
🛠️ DOLLY’S STAR IS SHINING AGAIN
The Hollywood Historic Trust moved quickly to install a replacement, allowing it time to set before polishing and reopening it to the public on Friday 4 September 2026.
Images of the completed work show Dolly’s name restored in full, with the new star looking as tidy as the rhinestones on one of her legendary stage outfits. A turquoise butterfly was also placed over its central recording emblem, surrounded by flowers and tributes from fans. Variety confirmed that the restored star reopened to visitors on Friday.
The butterfly was a particularly fitting touch. Dolly had long embraced butterflies as a symbol of freedom, beauty and her childhood connection to the Tennessee mountains.
You can scratch the pavement, but you can’t scratch out a legacy like that. 🦋
💔 WHAT HAPPENED TO THE ORIGINAL STAR?
Dolly’s star had already developed cracks and was on a list of monuments awaiting maintenance before the vandalism took place.
Following her death on 25 August 2026, the Hollywood Historic Trust and Hollywood Chamber of Commerce brought the planned work forward as a mark of respect. The flowers, candles and keepsakes surrounding it were temporarily cleared so repairs could begin.
It was during this period that somebody apparently scratched heavily across Dolly’s name, turning an intended restoration into a full replacement job. Work began on 1 September, with the new terrazzo star requiring several days to cure before receiving its final polish. The Hollywood Historic Trust confirmed that the repair had already been planned but was accelerated to honour Dolly’s life and legacy.
No publicly identified suspect has been linked to the damage at the time of writing.
🌟 A STAR EARNED THE PROPER WAY
Dolly received her solo recording star on 14 June 1984, celebrating a career that had already turned the Tennessee songwriter into a global icon.
By then, she had given the world classics including ‘Jolene’, ‘Coat of Many Colours’, ‘Here You Come Again’ and ‘9 to 5’ — plus a little number called ‘I Will Always Love You’. You might have heard of it.
In 2018, Dolly was honoured with another Walk of Fame star alongside Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt, celebrating the music created by the country supergroup behind the hugely influential Trio albums.
Yet Dolly’s importance went far beyond record sales, awards and sparkly dresses.
Through her Imagination Library, she helped place hundreds of millions of books into the hands of children around the world. She supported healthcare, education, disaster relief and countless community projects — often with far less fuss than many celebrities make over launching a new perfume.
She was country royalty, a rock ’n’ roll rule-breaker and, above everything else, someone who understood that kindness was never a weakness.
🤘 YOU CAN’T VANDALISE A LEGACY
The attack on Dolly’s star was ugly, pointless and deeply disrespectful — especially when the location had become a place for grieving fans to gather.
But the response showed something far bigger.
The star was replaced. The flowers returned. Fans gathered around it once again. Dolly’s name continued to shine from the heart of Hollywood Boulevard.
One person may have damaged a piece of stone and brass, but Dolly Parton’s real monument exists in her songs, her generosity and the millions of people whose lives she made a little brighter.
That legacy isn’t going anywhere.
