The long-awaited Ozzy Osbourne biopic is finally gathering serious momentum — and according to Jack Osbourne, the script is DONE, directors are being approached, and they’ve already got someone in mind to play the Prince of Darkness.

After years of development, the upcoming movie telling the extraordinary story of Ozzy Osbourne and his relationship with Sharon Osbourne appears to be moving closer towards cameras finally rolling.
Jack Osbourne has revealed that work on the project is now “gung ho”, with the Osbourne family determined to make something specifically for the people who kept Ozzy’s career alive for more than five decades:
The fans.
And Jack has made one thing very clear.
Don’t expect some confusing three-hour arthouse movie where Ozzy spends twenty minutes staring thoughtfully at a bat.
This is supposed to be a proper Ozzy movie.

🎬 The Script Is DONE
Speaking to E! News, Jack delivered probably the biggest update we’ve had on the project so far.
The screenplay is finished.
The production is now approaching directors as it attempts to move into the next stage of development.
And that’s a significant milestone.
This movie has been kicking around Hollywood since 2021, when plans for the project were first officially announced.
Jack had already said earlier in 2026 that the film was moving “full steam ahead”, but his latest comments suggest things are progressing nicely behind the scenes.
Even more excitingly, Jack has previously suggested that — realistically — we could potentially see the finished movie around 2028.
It’s still Hollywood, mind.
So don’t book the cinema seats just yet. 😂🍿
🦇 They’ve Already Got Someone in Mind to Play Ozzy!
And here’s where things get REALLY interesting.
They have an actor in mind to play Ozzy.
Jack isn’t saying who.
Yet.
Apparently conversations have already taken place, but he’s keeping the identity under wraps while everything is being worked out.
Jack described the mystery candidate as a “really brilliant actor” earlier this year and said that if everything comes together as hoped, it could be something special.
Right then.
Let the speculation begin.
Because whoever takes this role has one hell of a job ahead of them.
They’ve somehow got to capture:

Jack has also indicated that, in an ideal world, the team would like to be shooting the movie during spring or summer 2027.
Obviously, that’s dependent on several rather important pieces falling into place.
They need a director.
They need the cast.
They need schedules aligned.
And they need the usual Hollywood machinery to cooperate.
But after years of hearing that the Ozzy film was somewhere in development, we’re finally talking about potential cameras rolling.
That’s a BIG difference.
🤘 Jack’s Rule: “Give the Fans What They Want”
Perhaps the most encouraging part of Jack’s latest comments is his attitude towards the movie.
His philosophy when dealing with the Osbourne family business is straightforward:
Give the fans what they want.
Jack explained that Ozzy wrote music for his fans, toured for his fans and built his career around those people.
Therefore, when it comes to telling Ozzy’s story on the big screen, Jack wants the same principle to apply.
And he’s adamant about what the film won’t become.
An overly arty, inaccessible biopic.
Jack doesn’t want the story disappearing underneath filmmaking tricks simply to impress critics.
He wants something Ozzy fans can actually connect with.

Jack has also offered an intriguing comparison for the tone they’re aiming for.
Rather than simply creating a greatest-hits sprint through Ozzy’s entire career, he has compared the direction more closely to Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line.
And that makes sense when you look at where the story is expected to focus.
Because this isn’t necessarily going to be:
Kid from Birmingham → Black Sabbath → bats → reality television → credits.
There’s a much more personal story underneath everything.

From the beginning, the project has been described as not only the story of Ozzy Osbourne but also the extraordinary relationship between Ozzy and Sharon.
And bloody hell…
There’s enough material there for about six films.
Their relationship survived addiction, enormous fame, arguments, separations, health battles and enough rock ‘n’ roll chaos to make most celebrity marriages spontaneously explode.
Yet their partnership endured for decades.
When the movie was originally announced, Sharon described their relationship as having been wild, insane and dangerous at times, while saying their enduring love kept them together.
That relationship is expected to form the emotional backbone of the movie.
And knowing everything that came afterwards makes that story even more poignant now.

🎸 Expect the Early Solo Years to Play a Major Role
Jack has previously explained that the project’s scope has changed during development.
Originally, the movie could have covered a much broader chunk of Ozzy’s life, stretching from his younger years towards the 1990s.
But the story has since been tightened.
Jack described his preferred approach as something of an origin story, focusing particularly on the tail end of Ozzy’s Black Sabbath era and the explosion of his solo career.
And what an absolutely mental period that was.

Jack has also previously indicated that the film will deal with one of the most devastating chapters of Ozzy’s life:
the death of Randy Rhoads.
Rhoads wasn’t simply Ozzy’s guitarist.
His extraordinary playing helped define the sound of Ozzy’s early solo career.
Together they created music that remains fundamental to heavy metal more than four decades later.
Rhoads died tragically in a plane crash on 19 March 1982, aged just 25.
The loss devastated Ozzy and became one of the defining moments of his life.
If handled properly, that part of the movie could be absolutely heartbreaking.
And it deserves to be.
Randy’s contribution to Ozzy’s story is enormous.

One of the biggest questions surrounding any rock biopic is always:
Will they actually be allowed to use the songs?
Thankfully, the Ozzy project has the family directly involved.

Which means this thing has the potential to sound absolutely MONSTROUS in a cinema.

Trying to squeeze Ozzy Osbourne’s life into one movie is almost ridiculous.
This is the kid from Aston, Birmingham, who helped invent heavy metal.
The frontman of Black Sabbath.
The singer behind Paranoid, War Pigs and Iron Man.
The man who got fired from Sabbath and somehow returned even bigger.
The solo superstar.
The controversial madman.
The reality television icon.
The husband.
The father.
The bloke who somehow survived decades when practically everyone — occasionally including Ozzy himself — wondered how he was still standing.
And underneath the Prince of Darkness character was someone millions of fans genuinely loved.
That’s the part this movie needs to capture.
Not simply the madness.
The man underneath it.
❤️ The Movie Has Taken on Even Greater Meaning
Plans for the film existed long before Ozzy’s death in July 2025, aged 76.
That changes the emotional weight surrounding the entire project.
What was originally intended as a dramatisation of Ozzy and Sharon’s extraordinary story will now inevitably become part of the way his life and legacy are remembered.
