Well, mun… this wasn’t on many people’s 2026 bingo cards.
After fifteen years in the shadows, legendary metalcore/mathcore wrecking machine Burnt By The Sun have officially reunited, and they’ve brought some serious firepower with them. Joining the returning outfit is none other than Bill Kelliher, adding another layer of heavyweight riffage to an already formidable lineup.
For fans of chaotic, technical, neck-snapping heavy music, this news is enough to make you spill your pint in excitement. 🍺🤘
💀 A Cult Favourite Returns
Burnt By The Sun were one of those bands that never quite became household names but earned absolute hero status among hardcore and extreme metal fans.
Formed in the late ’90s in New Jersey, the band blended hardcore aggression, technical precision, mathcore complexity and sheer sonic violence into something genuinely unique.
Their albums became underground classics, influencing countless bands that followed.
Then, in 2011, they quietly disappeared.
For fifteen years, Burnt By The Sun existed mostly through old records, festival memories and fans desperately hoping for another chapter.
Now that chapter has finally arrived.
🎸 Enter Bill Kelliher
As if the reunion itself wasn’t exciting enough, the band have recruited Mastodon’s riff wizard Bill Kelliher.
Kelliher has spent more than two decades helping turn Mastodon into one of modern metal’s most respected and innovative bands.
His unmistakable guitar work has powered classics including:
- Leviathan
- Blood Mountain
- Crack The Skye
- Emperor Of Sand
- Hushed And Grim
Adding his songwriting and guitar prowess to Burnt By The Sun feels like pouring rocket fuel directly onto an already raging fire.
Fans are already speculating about what new material could sound like with Kelliher’s influence added to the band’s trademark chaos.
And honestly?
We’re intrigued as hell.
⚡ Why This Matters
The return of Burnt By The Sun feels part of a wider trend where influential underground bands are finally getting the recognition they deserve.
While many modern metal fans know names like Mastodon, Gojira and Lamb Of God, Burnt By The Sun were helping shape extreme music long before many of today’s younger bands even existed.
Their blend of technicality, groove and unrelenting aggression helped lay foundations for countless acts that followed.
A reunion isn’t just nostalgia.
It’s a chance for a whole new generation of metalheads to discover what made them so special in the first place.
🤘 Could New Music Be Coming?
That’s the question everyone’s asking.
At the time of writing, details remain limited, but reunions rarely happen without some kind of plan.
Whether it’s festival appearances, a full tour, new recordings or all three, fans will be hoping this isn’t simply a one-off return.
The thought of hearing fresh Burnt By The Sun material in 2026, especially with Bill Kelliher involved, is enough to get the metal community buzzing.
🎤 The Riff Report Verdict
Let’s be honest, butt…
Metal is at its best when legendary bands come roaring back with something to prove.
Burnt By The Sun never got the mainstream recognition their music deserved, but among those who know, their reputation is absolutely untouchable.
Adding Bill Kelliher to the equation only makes this reunion even more mouth-watering.
Whether you’re an old-school fan who remembers the band’s destructive live shows or a younger metalhead discovering them for the first time, now is the perfect moment to dive into their catalogue.
Fifteen years is a long time to wait.
But if this comeback delivers the goods, it’ll have been worth every second.
