Some bands hit twenty years together and start coasting.

You know the type.

Same album.
Same setlist.
Same leather jacket that smells faintly of 2007 festival cider and regret.

But Elder?

Nah mun. Not these lads.

Two decades into their existence, Elder are somehow still one of the most adventurous, unpredictable and creatively hungry bands in the underground heavy scene. While countless bands spend years trying to recreate the glory days of stoner rock, doom, psych or prog, Elder have spent their career mutating all of it into something entirely their own.

And now comes Through Zero โ€” their latest sprawling sonic voyage into heavy psychedelic rock madness โ€” landing May 29, 2026 through Stickman Records and Blues Funeral Recordings.

This isnโ€™t just another album release.

This feels like another major evolution in the Elder universe.

And honestly?
The underground riff scene should probably prepare itself accordingly. โšก

THE BAND THAT TURNED HEAVY PSYCH INTO AN ENTIRE DIMENSION ๐ŸŒŒ๐ŸŽธ

Thereโ€™s something genuinely fascinating about Elder.

The Massachusetts-born-now-mostly-Germany-based band have never really fit neatly into any one genre box.

Sure, lazy people will throw around terms like:

  • stoner rock
  • doom metal
  • psych rock
  • progressive metal

โ€ฆbut that barely scratches the surface.

Because Elder donโ€™t just play heavy psych rock.

They stretch it.
Warp it.
Pull it apart.
Feed it through vintage amps and cosmic philosophy textbooks before reassembling it into towering riff structures that somehow feel both deeply emotional and astronomically huge.

One minute youโ€™re trapped inside a hypnotic groove that sounds like it was recorded inside a volcano.

The next?
Youโ€™re floating through shimmering melodic passages that feel like Pink Floyd accidentally wandered into a desert rock jam at 3am.

And somehow โ€” somehow โ€” it all works beautifully.

Thatโ€™s the Elder magic.

TWENTY YEARS OF NEVER STANDING STILL ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Elder formed around 2006 in a small coastal Massachusetts town by three friends obsessed with heavy, downtuned music.

Since then?

Absolute chaos in the best possible way.

The band:

  • gained extra members
  • changed drummers
  • relocated much of their operation to Germany
  • toured relentlessly
  • played tiny clubs
  • played massive festivals
  • released six full-length albums
  • dropped four EPs
  • unleashed live albums
  • and slowly built one of the most loyal cult fanbases in modern heavy music

And through all of it, Elder have refused to stagnate.

Thatโ€™s probably the key thing here.

Every Elder record feels like a progression.

Not change for the sake of change.
Not weirdness for the sake of being โ€œartsy.โ€

Actual evolution.

The kind that only happens when a band genuinely loves exploring sound.

THROUGH ZERO โ€“ THE MEANING BEHIND THE TITLE ๐ŸŒŒโšก

The title Through Zero sounds like something written on the wall of a spaceship moments before disaster.

And honestly?
That vibe kind of fits.

According to frontman Nick DiSalvo, the phrase comes from engineering and music terminology โ€” describing the idea of frequencies passing through the zero point and continuing into the negative.

But conceptually, the phrase struck something deeper with him.

Rather than viewing โ€œzeroโ€ as an ending, DiSalvo sees it as more of a midpoint along a hidden path.

That idea fuels much of the albumโ€™s emotional and philosophical core:

  • life and death
  • fear and hope
  • frustration and healing
  • helplessness and resilience

Everything connected.
Everything flowing together.

Itโ€™s proper heady stuff โ€” but Elder never make it feel pretentious.

Instead, they channel those ideas into riffs, atmosphere and movement.

The result sounds less like a collection of songs and more like a full-body experience.

RECORDED IN BERLIN BETWEEN TOURS & EXISTENTIAL CRISES ๐ŸŽ›๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Through Zero was recorded across several months during winter 2025/2026 at Big Snuff Studios in Berlin with longtime collaborator Richard Behrens.

This marks the first Elder album fully co-produced and co-mixed by the band themselves alongside Behrens โ€” and by all accounts, it allowed the record to become an even purer extension of their creative vision.

You can almost picture the process:

Rain hammering Berlin streets outside.
Vintage amps glowing in dark studio corners.
Half-empty coffee cups everywhere.
Someone endlessly adjusting pedal settings while another person disappears into a twenty-minute improvisational jam.

That atmosphere bleeds into the record.

Every sound feels deliberate.
Every layer feels lived-in.

Nothing feels rushed.
Nothing feels artificial.

Itโ€™s organic heavy music in the best sense possible.

Additional recording and editing came courtesy of Fabien de Menou, mastering was handled by Carl Saff, while the album artwork and graphic design were created by Adam Hill.

And letโ€™s be honest:
Elder album artwork always looks like something youโ€™d discover carved into a forbidden monolith in an abandoned desert temple.

THROUGH ZERO TRACKLIST ๐ŸŽง๐Ÿ’€

1. Sigil To Ruin

Likely opening the album with the sort of colossal riff energy that makes festival crowds collectively lose their minds.

2. Capture/Release

Already sounds like it could swing between meditative atmosphere and crushing heaviness.

3. Through Zero

The title track. Probably the centrepiece. Expect massive emotional weight and cosmic-scale songwriting.

4. Strata

That title alone screams layered progressive weirdness and hypnotic groove worship.

5. Sight Unseen

Sounds mysterious, introspective and potentially devastating live.

6. Blighted Age

An ending title that feels both apocalyptic and weirdly poetic. Elder absolutely love ending albums by emotionally flattening listeners in the best possible way.

Only six tracks โ€” because Elder clearly subscribe to the โ€œquality over quantityโ€ philosophy.

These arenโ€™t quick radio singles.

These are journeys.

THE CURRENT ELDER LINE-UP ๐Ÿค˜

Nick DiSalvo โ€“ Guitar / Vocals

The architect behind Elderโ€™s constantly evolving sonic identity.

Jack Donovan โ€“ Bass

Low-end groove merchant supplying the hypnotic pulse beneath the chaos.

Mike Risberg โ€“ Guitar / Keyboards

Adding texture, atmosphere and melodic depth to Elderโ€™s enormous sound.

Georg Edert โ€“ Drums

The rhythmic engine driving the band through their sprawling progressive landscapes.

Together?
Absolute riff shamans.

ELDER LIVE IN 2026 โ€“ EUROPE IS ABOUT TO GET MELTED ๐Ÿš๐Ÿ”ฅ

If youโ€™ve never seen Elder live, prepare yourself.

Because this isnโ€™t a band that just โ€œplays songs.โ€

An Elder gig feels like being swallowed by sound.

Lights swirling.
Riffs vibrating through your ribcage.
Entire crowds locked into hypnotic grooves while someone near the bar quietly ascends to another plane of existence.

And yes โ€” UK fans are in luck.

The band are heading to Download Festival this summer alongside a string of intimate UK dates with the phenomenal Blood Incantation.

Which honestly sounds like one of the most dangerously good tour combinations of the year.

UK DATES ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡งโšก

13 June โ€“ Derby โ€“ Download Festival

Imagine hearing Elder riffs rolling across Donington Park at sunset. Goosebumps already.

14 June โ€“ Colchester Arts Centre

Tiny venue. Massive sound. The walls might not survive.

15 June โ€“ Southampton โ€“ The 1865

Sweaty heavy psych chaos incoming.

16 June โ€“ Brighton โ€“ Concorde 2

Guaranteed to become one of those โ€œI was thereโ€ gigs people bang on about for years.

THE EUROPEAN TAKEOVER CONTINUES ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ”ฅ

After the UK run, Elder continue their European domination with appearances at:

  • Hellfest
  • Graspop Metal Meeting
  • Tons of Rock
  • Brutal Assault
  • Sonic Blast Festival
  • Bearstone Festival
  • Rockstadt Extreme Fest
  • Tolminator Festival
  • PALP Festival

Basically: if youโ€™re anywhere near mainland Europe this summer and enjoy gigantic riffs, Elder are probably about to soundtrack your life for an evening.

WHY ELDER STILL FEEL IMPORTANT IN 2026 โšก

Heavy music in 2026 can sometimes feel trapped between nostalgia and algorithms.

Everyone wants viral moments.
Quick hooks.
Thirty-second clips.

Elder feel like the opposite of all that.

They make albums meant to be experienced fully.
Albums that reward patience.
Albums that reveal new details with every listen.

Thatโ€™s becoming increasingly rare.

And maybe thatโ€™s why Elder have endured while so many trend-chasing bands disappear into the void.

Because Elder donโ€™t follow scenes.

They build worlds.

THE RIFF REPORT VERDICT ๐Ÿ‰๐Ÿ”ฅ

Through Zero sounds like another monumental step forward for one of underground heavy musicโ€™s most consistently creative bands.

This is:

  • cosmic heavy rock
  • progressive exploration
  • hypnotic groove worship
  • emotional weight
  • psychedelic atmosphere
  • colossal riff energy

โ€ฆall fused together into one gigantic immersive experience.

Whether youโ€™re blasting it through headphones on a midnight walk, driving through rain-soaked motorways after a gig, or standing in a festival field with a ยฃ9 pint wondering where your mates disappeared toโ€ฆ

Elder sound like the perfect soundtrack to losing yourself completely.

And honestly?

Thatโ€™s exactly what great heavy music should do.

Get this album in your ears immediately, butt. ๐Ÿค˜๐ŸŒŒ๐Ÿ”ฅ
