Some albums are polished.
Some albums are carefully market-tested for playlists and algorithms.
And then there are albums like Toxic Noxious Undeath by Megascavenger — records that sound like they were discovered buried beneath a condemned cemetery wrapped in barbed wire, soaked in radioactive sludge and screaming in Swedish. 🪦☣️
The long-awaited return of Megascavenger arrives on August 13th, 2026 via Xtreem Music and mun… this thing absolutely REEKS in the best possible way.
This is not modern, shiny, over-produced death metal pretending to be dangerous while somebody in the background adjusts TikTok lighting.
No chance.
This is old-school death metal with mud on its boots, corpse paint under its fingernails, and enough rotten riffs to collapse a crypt roof.
And honestly? We’ve missed albums like this.
🧟 ROGGA JOHANSSON STRIKES AGAIN
At this point, trying to keep track of everything Rogga Johansson has touched is basically impossible.
The man has more death metal projects than most people have unread emails.
Whether it’s:
- Paganizer
- Ribspreader
- Putrevore
- Bloodgut
…Rogga has become one of underground death metal’s most relentless riff merchants.
And somehow, despite releasing enough music to fill an entire haunted HMV, he still manages to make records that feel genuinely inspired.
That’s the magic of Toxic Noxious Undeath.
This doesn’t feel like another random side project tossed into the abyss.
It feels important.
It feels hungry.
It feels like Megascavenger have clawed their way back out of the earth specifically to remind everyone what real death metal is supposed to sound like.
☣️ A HORROR MOVIE IN ALBUM FORM
The concept behind the album is gloriously grim.
Toxic waste seeps through the earth over decades, poisoning the land until it reaches the forgotten dead below. The contamination mutates the corpses, reanimating them into a vengeance-fuelled undead army rising from polluted graves.
Absolute B-movie horror perfection.
You can practically smell the VHS tape mould while reading it.
It’s the kind of concept that would’ve looked amazing painted on the side of a battered tour van in 1991 while somebody blasted Entombed through blown-out speakers outside a venue with sticky floors and £2 pints.
And the music fully commits to that atmosphere.
Every song sounds diseased.
Not messy.
Not weak.
Diseased.
There’s a huge difference.
🎤 THE DEATH METAL ALL-STARS HAVE ARRIVED
Now let’s talk about the absolutely ridiculous guest list.
Every track on Toxic Noxious Undeath features a different vocalist from legendary death metal bands across the underground scene.
This could’ve easily turned into a gimmick album.
Instead?
It becomes one of the album’s biggest strengths.
Each vocalist feels perfectly matched to their assigned track, giving every song its own identity while still keeping the overall atmosphere cohesive and disgusting.
The guest line-up includes members from:
- Massacre
- Crematory
- Vomitory
- Mercyless
- Benediction
- Avulsed
- Thorium
Honestly, it reads like somebody raided the backstage area at a death metal festival and shoved everybody into one studio with a crate of beer and a coffin full of riffs.
🔥 “GRAVEYARD DREAMS AND BONEHOUSE SCREAMS” KICKS THE DOOR OFF
Opening track “Graveyard Dreams And Bonehouse Screams” immediately sets the tone.
Featuring death metal legend Kam Lee, the song stomps in with gigantic chainsaw riffs, filthy grooves and vocals that sound like they were recorded from inside a collapsing tomb.
It’s disgusting.
It’s catchy.
It absolutely rules.
And importantly — it doesn’t sound nostalgic for the sake of nostalgia.
There’s energy here.
Real energy.
The kind of energy that makes you want to immediately buy a patched denim jacket and stand in a muddy field arguing about Swedish HM-2 tone settings with strangers.
💀 THE RIFFS ARE PURE OLD-SCHOOL DEATH METAL WORSHIP
This album worships at the altar of classic death metal, and thankfully, it understands exactly WHY those old records mattered.
It’s not just about being heavy.
It’s about atmosphere.
Groove.
Hooks.
That ugly, primitive feeling that made early death metal feel dangerous.
You can hear shades of:
- Entombed
- Dismember
- Autopsy
- Bolt Thrower
- Massacre
But Megascavenger never feel like a tribute act.
These riffs have purpose.
The guitar tone alone sounds like a bulldozer driving through a morgue wall.
🪦 “A WORLD OF FIRE AND BRIMSTONE” IS ABSOLUTE FILTH
One of the album’s standout moments comes with “A World Of Fire And Brimstone”, featuring Dave Ingram.
This track drags the pace into darker territory, layering eerie melodies and doom-soaked atmosphere beneath the carnage.
The drumming is phenomenal throughout.
The bass work creeps underneath the riffs like something lurking in the dark.
And the lead guitar sections howl through the mix like tortured ghosts.
It’s death metal that actually understands dynamics instead of just endlessly blasting your skull into powder.
🤮 DAVE ROTTEN TURNS “SHALLOW GRAVE OVERFLOW” INTO NIGHTMARE FUEL
Then comes “Shallow Grave Overflow” featuring Dave Rotten — and sweet merciful riff gods, this one is vile.
The vocals sound genuinely inhuman.
Like somebody fed a demon gravel and cigarettes before locking it in a sewer with a microphone.
It’s one of the heaviest moments on the album and easily one of the nastiest tracks Megascavenger have ever produced.
Perfect festival pit music, mun.
You can already picture some poor bloke losing a shoe in the chaos at Bloodstock while this absolutely levels the New Blood tent.
🎸 EVERY TRACK FEELS IMPORTANT
That’s what really separates Toxic Noxious Undeath from a lot of modern death metal releases.
There’s no filler.
No “skip tracks.”
No moments where the momentum drops off.
Each song feels distinct and memorable despite the album’s unified atmosphere.
That’s incredibly difficult to pull off on a death metal album, especially one with this many collaborators involved.
Yet somehow Megascavenger make it sound effortless.
🎨 THE ARTWORK LOOKS LIKE IT SHOULD BE BANNED
The visual side of the album deserves massive praise too.
Artwork from Lucretia Morti perfectly captures the rotten horror atmosphere of the music.
It’s grotesque.
Nightmarish.
Completely over-the-top.
Exactly what death metal album art should be.
You know the sort of cover where your mum walks past and immediately asks:
“Why is that skeleton melting?”
And the only acceptable answer is:
“Because the riffs are too heavy, mam.”
🔊 THE PRODUCTION IS BEAUTIFULLY ROTTEN
Too many modern extreme metal albums sound overly polished.
Everything quantised.
Everything sterile.
Everything sounding like it was assembled in a laboratory by somebody wearing expensive headphones.
Not this.
Thanks to the mixing and mastering work from Johan Berglund at Studio Ulgnor, the album sounds organic, nasty and alive.
Well…
Undead.
There’s grit here.
Texture.
You can feel the room.
You can feel the dirt underneath the riffs.
It gives the entire album a timeless feel that old-school death metal fans are going to absolutely devour.

🤘 THE RIFF REPORT VERDICT
Toxic Noxious Undeath is everything we love about death metal.
It’s:
- filthy
- catchy
- horrifying
- atmospheric
- ridiculously riff-heavy
- gloriously over-the-top
And most importantly?
It sounds genuine.
This isn’t an album chasing trends.
It’s an album made by people who genuinely worship the rotten altar of old-school death metal.
The result is one of the strongest underground death metal releases of 2026 so far.
If you like your music polished and radio-friendly, this probably isn’t for you.
But if you like your riffs mouldy, your vocals inhuman, and your albums smelling faintly of grave dirt and stale beer…
Megascavenger have delivered the undead soundtrack of your summer. ☣️💀🔥
