Ahead of this summer’s pilgrimage to the sacred muddy fields of Donington, East Midlands Railway has officially cracked down on one of Download’s most chaotic traditions after festival-goers last year attempted to board trains hauling giant bins and festival trolleys overflowing with beer.

🍺 THE GREAT DOWNLOAD LAGER MIGRATION HAS BEEN STOPPED
According to reports via BBC News, train staff last year were faced with scenes that probably looked less like a festival weekend and more like the collapse of civilisation in a heavy metal apocalypse movie.
Imagine it.
Hundreds of black-clad Download fans descending onto train platforms carrying tents, camping chairs, sleeping bags, inflatable furniture, battle jackets, and giant bins sloshing with enough lager to supply a Wetherspoons during Six Nations weekend.
Honestly, somewhere in Derby station there was probably a bloke trying to explain that his wheelie bin “technically counts as hand luggage.”
East Midlands Railway’s customer experience director, Philippa Cresswell, confirmed the company will not allow the madness to repeat itself this year:
“Last year, some festival-goers tried to board services with wheelie bins or festival trolleys full of beer. While it might seem like a great idea for getting your supplies to the festival, it just isn’t safe or possible to bring them on board train services.”

From a safety point of view? Fair enough.
