By The Riff Report – loud, proud, and still feeling the rumble
On 24th December 1945, while most of Britain was worrying about turkey timings and whether the sprouts had gone off, something far more important happened.
In Staffordshire, England, a child was born who would go on to change rock ’n’ roll forever.
No silent night. No heavenly choir.
Just feedback, smoke, and destiny plugging in an amp.
They didn’t swaddle him in blankets.
They wrapped him in black leather.
They didn’t place him in a crib.
They laid him on the bar. 🍻
Three wise men appeared, not with gold, frankincense and myrrh, but with Jack Daniel’s, Marlboros, and a bass guitar.
And they named him Lemmy Kilmister.
And rock music was never the same again.
🎸 THE MAN WHO TURNED BASS INTO A WEAPON
Lemmy didn’t just play bass.
He attacked it.
Strings rattled. Speakers trembled. Sound engineers panicked.
While everyone else stood politely in the mix, Lemmy cranked his Marshall stacks and made the bass lead the charge.
His style was simple, brutal, and unmistakable.
If it was too loud, you were standing in the wrong place, mun.
♠️ MOTÖRHEAD: NO COMPROMISE, NO APOLOGIES
Motörhead weren’t here to please anyone.
They were here to destroy stages, drink venues dry, and remind the world that rock ’n’ roll wasn’t meant to be tidy.
Songs like Ace of Spades, Overkill, and Bomber weren’t just tracks.
They were declarations of war.
Fast. Loud. Honest. Relentless.
Lemmy didn’t chase trends.
Trends tried to keep up and collapsed in the pit.
🚬 THE ATTITUDE THAT MADE HIM A GOD
Lemmy was never polished.
Never fake.
Never trying to be anything other than himself.
He lived loud, spoke straight, and didn’t give a toss what anyone thought.
A walking middle finger to nonsense, hypocrisy, and corporate rock.
Metalheads loved him.
Punks claimed him.
Rockers worshipped him.
And everyone else? They respected him.
Because Lemmy wasn’t pretending.
He was rock ’n’ roll.
🖤 CHRISTMAS EVE, FOREVER LEMMY DAY
There’s something beautifully poetic about Lemmy being born on Christmas Eve.
While the world talks peace and goodwill, Lemmy reminds us of:
- Volume
- Freedom
- Being unapologetically yourself
So today, raise a glass.
Crank Motörhead until the neighbours complain.
Light one up.
And remember the man who proved you don’t need to be perfect — just real.
🎄 Born: 24 December 1945
♠️ Status: Eternal
🎸 Legacy: Untouchable
Lemmy didn’t become a god because people said so.
He became one because rock ’n’ roll demanded it.
Happy Birthday, Lemmy.
Only in rock. Only forever. 🤘🔥

Michael is particularly passionate about supporting independent artists, local venues, charities, and the wider UK rock and metal community. He believes every band deserves a chance to be discovered and every festival has a story worth telling. Through The Riff Report, he aims to shine a spotlight on both the biggest names in rock and the future stars waiting to break through.
When he’s not writing or interviewing artists, you’ll probably find him exploring festival campsites, photographing live shows, chatting with fellow fans over a pint, or planning the next road trip in search of more riffs, bigger crowds, and unforgettable moments.
Above all, Michael believes rock and metal are about more than music—they’re about community, friendship, and creating memories that last a lifetime. That’s exactly what The Riff Report exists to celebrate.
Proudly Welsh. Proudly Loud. Always chasing the next great riff. 🤘
