Well, this one’s a proper kick in the jukebox. 💔
Rockabilly legends The Stray Cats have officially cancelled their entire upcoming tour, after frontman and guitar wizard Brian Setzer was struck down by what’s being described as a “serious illness.”
For fans of slicked-back hair, twangy Gretsch guitars and that unmistakable swing-rock shuffle, this news stings. Setzer isn’t just another guitarist — he’s the guy who made retro rock cool again, fusing 1950s swagger with punk-era bite and more charisma than Elvis at a leather convention. 🕶️🔥
😿 The Statement Heard Around the Rockabilly World
The band shared a sombre update confirming that the illness has forced them to cancel all remaining 2025 tour dates.
“We’re devastated to announce that due to Brian’s serious illness, we have to cancel our upcoming tour. We thank everyone for understanding and for all your support over the years.”
No further details have been made public, but insiders say it’s serious enough that Setzer needs to focus fully on recovery. And fair play — the man’s been tearing it up for decades without slowing down once.
🎶 A Legacy Carved in Gretsch and Grease
For anyone who’s ever foot-tapped to “Rock This Town”, “Stray Cat Strut” or “Runaway Boys”, you’ll know what a unique force The Stray Cats are. Formed in 1979, they brought rockabilly roaring back into the mainstream, all slick suits, stand-up basses and wild solos that could peel paint off a diner wall.
Brian Setzer’s fire-fingered guitar playing and smooth croon have always been at the heart of it. Beyond The Stray Cats, his work with the Brian Setzer Orchestra proved he could swing just as hard with a horn section as with a power trio. The man bleeds rhythm. 🕺🎺
❤️ Fans Rally Behind Brian
Since the news broke, social media has been flooded with messages of love and support from fans and fellow musicians alike. Many are calling him “a true gentleman of rock ’n’ roll” and “the heart of rockabilly itself.”
Thousands have commented things like:
“Get well soon, Brian — we’ll still be here ready to rock when you are!”
“The king of the Gretsch needs his crown back. Take your time, legend.”
You can practically feel the pomade-soaked community rallying behind him. Only in rock ‘n’ roll, mun. ❤️🔥
🐾 What’s Next for The Stray Cats?
At this stage, all upcoming shows are off the calendar, with refunds being issued automatically. The band hasn’t ruled out future plans — but everything depends on Brian’s health.
Here’s hoping this isn’t goodbye, just a pause before the next big swing revival. Because let’s be honest — no one plays like Setzer.
🎤 The Riff Report Says…
