Ah July… festival season’s at full tilt, sweat is dripping off cymbals, and somewhere, a guitarist is shirtless by the third track. But while you’re dodging warm pints and sunburn, don’t forget — some of the biggest legends in rock and metal were born this month.

Whether they’re glam gods, punk pioneers, grunge heroes or metal beasts — July-born rockers were built for summer chaos. Let’s light some candles (and maybe a pyrotechnic or two) and raise a frosty pint to these sonic savages 🎉🍻

🥁 July 2 – Dave Parsons (Bush)

Born 1966 – The low-end thunder from one of the UK’s biggest grunge exports. Glycerine wouldn’t hit the same without those thick, moody basslines.

🧛‍♂️ July 3 – Stephen Pearcy (Ratt)

Born 1956 – Glam metal sleaze lord. Gave us Round and Round, a riff that still lives in the DNA of every hair spray bottle ever made.

⚡ July 4 – Jeremy Spencer (Ex–Five Finger Death Punch)

Born 1973 – Drummer turned vampire novelist (seriously). Spencer crushed double kicks with 5FDP before switching to bloodsucking beats in a horror-metal band. Icon.

🔥 July 6 – Jason Wade (Lifehouse)

Born 1980 – Not the heaviest rocker, but Hanging by a Moment slapped in 2001 and still makes you feel some type of way.

🎙️ July 6 – Mike Shrieve (Santana)

Born 1949 – Played Woodstock at 20 years old. His drum solo in Soul Sacrifice is STILL one of the greatest ever put to tape. Respect where it’s due.

🎸 July 7 – Synyster Gates (Avenged Sevenfold)

Born 1981 – Finger-blistering solos, ridiculous speed, and an endless supply of swagger. Syn’s a modern metal guitar hero and shredder supreme.

🎤 July 10 – Ronnie James Dio

Born 1942 – The voice of heaven, hell, and everything in between. Introduced the world to the metal horns 🤘. Still the patron saint of heavy metal. RIP and scream on. 🖤

🧙‍♂️ July 11 – Richie Sambora (Bon Jovi)

Born 1959 – The six-string soul behind Bon Jovi’s arena domination. Wrote riffs that got lighters waving across the world (Wanted Dead or Alive, anyone?).

🤘 July 14 – Nick Zinner (Yeah Yeah Yeahs)

Born 1974 – Indie noise prince. Known for turning guitar feedback into a full-blown sonic hurricane. Looks like a vampire. Plays like a demon.

🧠 July 15 – Joe Satriani

Born 1956 – The guitar teacher of legends. Wrote Surfing with the Alien and melted faces globally without singing a single word.

🎉 July 17 – Geezer Butler (Black Sabbath)

Born 1949 – The riff engine room behind Sabbath. Invented doom bass. Wrote lyrics about war, witchcraft, and madness. Metal owes him a lifetime supply of black candles. 🔮

🥀 July 18 – Keith Levene (The Clash / PiL)

Born 1957 – One of punk’s most experimental weirdos. Helped invent post-punk, noise-rock, and the art of making guitars sound just wrong enough to be genius.

🔊 July 19 – Brian May (Queen)

Born 1947 – Astrophysicist. Riff god. Curly-haired legend. His guitar tone is more recognisable than your nan’s perfume. Built his guitar with his dad. Bow down.

💥 July 20 – Chris Cornell (Soundgarden / Audioslave)

Born 1964 – That VOICE. Haunting. Roaring. Heaven-splitting. Whether whispering or wailing, Cornell’s voice felt like thunder in your soul. Still missed, forever immortal. 🖤🎤

🧨 July 21 – Cat Stevens / Yusuf

Born 1948 – Not metal, but come on — Wild World is a folk-rock masterpiece. Everyone from Ozzy to HIM has probably sung it in the shower.

🎤 July 22 – Don Henley (The Eagles)

Born 1947 – Whether crooning Desperado or belting Hotel California, Henley’s voice owns classic rock radio.

🦴 July 23 – Slash (Guns N’ Roses / Velvet Revolver)

Born 1965 – Top hat. Cigarette. Les Paul. The most recognisable silhouette in rock history. Sweet Child O’ Mine is the riff that launched a million wannabe guitarists.

🎛️ July 24 – Jim Leedy (Producer – worked with everyone from Korn to Deftones)

Born 1973 – Quiet guy behind the boards. Loud AF in the mix. Made bands sound massive.

🧊 July 26 – Mick Jagger

Born 1943 – The strut. The snarl. The sex appeal. Frontman blueprint. Can still out-perform most 25-year-olds. Moves like Jagger? Damn right.

🥁 July 27 – Juliana Hatfield

Born 1967 – 90s alt queen with crunchy riffs and dreamy vocals. Still making killer records, and still flying under the radar. Justice for Juliana!

🔥 July 28 – Jim Martin (Faith No More)

Born 1961 – Guitarist of Epic and other weirdly brilliant anthems. Wore giant glasses and played like a fuzzed-out chainsaw.

🧟‍♂️ July 29 – Geddy Lee (Rush)

Born 1953 – Bass. Synth. Vocals. All at once. Geddy is the Swiss army knife of prog rock. A legend who sings in algebra and solos in time signatures you’ve never heard of.

🥵 July 30 – Kate Bush

Born 1958 – Theatrical. Mystical. Weird in all the best ways. Not metal, but Running Up That Hill is doom-pop perfection. Metal fans secretly love her. You know you do.

🎧 July 31 – John 5 (Rob Zombie / Motley Crüe / solo)

Born 1971 – Shredder for hire. Can switch from bluegrass to death metal mid-solo. Wears corpse paint, plays like a possessed wizard. Criminally underrated.
