“Big riffs, bigger hair, and enough eyeliner to flood the Severn…”

22. Cinderella 👠🔥

Don’t let the fairytale name fool you – these Philly rockers brought the bluesy glam hard. Night Songs was lush, and Gypsy Road still slaps harder than your mam when you nicked her hairspray.

21. Queensrÿche 👑🛸

The thinking headbanger’s metal band. Operation: Mindcrime is prog-metal perfection, and Geoff Tate’s vocals? Filthy good. Tidy!

20. REO Speedwagon 🚗🎤

Soft rock royalty with tunes that stuck like glitter. Keep On Loving You and Can’t Fight This Feeling – emotional bangers for your mullet moments.

19. The Cult 🦇🔥

From post-punk beginnings to hard rock stompers like Fire Woman and She Sells Sanctuary, The Cult were gothic swagger with a Gretsch guitar in hand. Pure 80s chaos.

18. Heart 💔🎤

Nancy and Ann Wilson gave the lads a run for their money. Alone? Still makes you scream-cry into your pint. Shredding + soaring vocals = proper job.

17. Poison ☠️💄

Spandex? Check. Makeup? Check. Absolute party anthems? You bet. Every Rose Has Its Thorn was the heartbreak ballad of the hairspray era. Glam as hell.

16. Scorpions 🦂🇩🇪

The German rock juggernauts! From Rock You Like a Hurricane to Still Loving You, these legends rocked harder than a steelworks shift in Port Talbot.

15. Twisted Sister 👩‍🎤😡

“We’re Not Gonna Take It!” – Dee Snider screamed it, and every teen rebel shouted it back. Outrageous videos, outrageous looks, and outrageously good tunes.

14. Def Leppard 🐆🥁

Hailing from Sheffield with one-armed drumming legend Rick Allen, Def Leppard dropped Hysteria and Pyromania – stadium rock that defined a generation.

13. Dire Straits 🎸💸

Laid-back but legendary. Money For Nothing, Sultans of Swing – Mark Knopfler made finger-picking cool. Music for dads and headbangers.

12. Bon Jovi 🤘💋

Hair. Hooks. Hits. From Livin’ on a Prayer to Wanted Dead or Alive, Jon Bon Jovi was the poster boy of arena rock dreams. C’mon, butt – you’ve belted these tunes in the car.

11. U2 🇮🇪🌍

Before they were phone app invaders, U2 were the anthemic voice of a generation. The Joshua Tree dropped in ’87 and we’ve been humming With or Without You ever since.

🔥 Top 10 Incoming! Crank the hairspray to MAX…

10. Whitesnake 🐍🚘

David Coverdale sliding across a car bonnet in Here I Go Again? Iconic. These lads blended bluesy roots with glam gloss and made pure 80s magic.

9. Motley Crüe 💉🎸

Drugs, debauchery, and Dr. Feelgood. The Crüe were the 80s. Nikki Sixx literally died and came back – you can’t get more metal than that. Madness!

8. Iron Maiden 🛡️👹

Eddie the Head, galloping riffs, and storytelling epics. The Number of the Beast and Powerslave made them legends. And they still rip harder than most young’uns today!

7. Metallica ⚡🔩

They blitzed thrash metal into the mainstream. Ride the Lightning and …And Justice for All defined the decade’s heavy side. Cliff Burton, we salute you. 🖤

6. Ozzy Osbourne 🧟‍♂️🦇

The Prince of Darkness went solo and gave us Crazy Train and Bark at the Moon. Bit batty (literally), but totally untouchable. Diolch, Ozzy!

5. Judas Priest 🏍️⚙️

Brummie legends in leather! Screaming for Vengeance and Painkiller (OK, that one’s ’90) were pure metal theatre. Rob Halford’s voice could melt your nan’s dentures.

4. AC/DC ⚡🇦🇺

Alright, technically born in the 70s – but Back in Black dropped in 1980 and rewrote the riff bible. Brian Johnson brought the howl, and Angus brought the duck walk.

3. Guns N’ Roses 🌹🔥

Appetite for Destruction came in ’87 and blew the doors off the Sunset Strip. Slash’s top hat became a symbol, and Axl’s scream could strip paint.

2. Van Halen 🔥🎸

Eddie Van Halen changed how we play guitar – full stop. Jump took synths into hard rock and David Lee Roth gave us karate kicks in spandex. Absolute carnage.

🥇 1. QUEEN 👑🎤

Even with Freddie’s glory days starting in the 70s, Queen dominated the 80s like no one else. Another One Bites The Dust, Radio Ga Ga, Under Pressure, and that LIVE AID SET?! YESS MUN! This wasn’t a band – this was a revolution in spandex and crown jewels.
