By The Riff Report – For those about to laugh, shred, and summon Satan with a face-melting solo… we salute you! 😈🤘

🕶️ What’s Occurring?

Before there was Bohemian Rhapsody, before there was School of Rock, there was a legend. A legend about a pick forged from Satan’s tooth, a band formed by fate, and a quest powered by weed, nachos, and epic riffage.

Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny isn’t just a movie – it’s a rock opera fever dream, a stoner comedy, a musical quest, and a love letter to the dumbest, loudest parts of metal fandom. 🎶💨

🎬 The Plot: A Tale of Two D’s

Jack Black stars as JB, a chubby, metal-obsessed dreamer from Kickapoo, Missouri, raised by religious nutters and destined for greatness.
Kyle Gass is KG, a beach bum with a guitar, a wig, and very questionable wisdom.

Together they become Tenacious D, the world’s most arrogant yet loveable two-man band. But something’s missing – that mythical spark. The key to shredding like the gods.

Enter: the Pick of Destiny – a legendary guitar pick made from the Devil’s incisor that grants its wielder supernatural rock power. 🧛‍♂️

Their quest to steal it from a rock museum leads them through:

  • 🪨 Training montages
  • 🧑‍🍳 Sasquatch hallucinations
  • 🍕 Pizza delivery rivalries
  • 😈 A final face-off with SATAN HIMSELF (played by Dave Grohl in demon boots and corpse paint)

🤘 The Vibes: Half Musical, Half Mayhem, All Madness

  • 🪕 The soundtrack is untouchable – “Kickapoo,” “Classico,” “Beelzeboss” and the ultimate banger “Master Exploder” (he literally explodes a man’s head with his voice)
  • 🎤 Jack Black gives 110% vocal chaos – part Freddie Mercury, part banshee in spandex
  • 🪄 The lore is pure D&D energy meets Spinal Tap absurdity
  • 😅 The humour? Think fart jokes meets guitar solos meets heavy metal theology

🧠 Secretly Brilliant?

Surprisingly, yes.
Under the poop jokes and stoner nonsense is a genuine message about passion, friendship, and creativity. The D don’t chase fame for its own sake – they just wanna ROCK. And maybe score free tacos.

You’ve got cameos from:

  • Ben Stiller as a rock shopkeeper
  • Tim Robbins as a deranged European thief with a wooden leg
  • Meat Loaf as JB’s angry, hymn-screaming dad
  • Ronnie James Dio… as a singing bedroom poster
    Proper cinema, that. 👑

😬 The Bits That Might Be… Slightly Bogus

  • It’s a very niche film. If you don’t like metal, musicals, or Jack Black yelling “DESTINYYYY” at full volume, you may want to run.
  • Plot? What plot?
  • Some jokes are very mid-2000s stoner-core. It’s a vibe… but not always a timeless one.
  • Critics hated it. But what do they know? They probably clap on 1 and 3.

🎤 Final Riff

Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny is dumb, loud, wildly self-indulgent, and utterly brilliant if you’re on its wavelength. It’s part rock opera, part acid trip, part metal myth, all wrapped in Jack Black’s sweat-drenched charisma.

It bombed at the box office but rose from the ashes as a cult classic. Because legends never die – they just keep touring.

This isn’t the greatest movie in the world.
It’s just a tribute.

🤘 Riff Report Rating:

5/5 Rock-Summoned Demons 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
+1 bonus point if you’ve ever air-guitared Master Exploder in your pants

Now go forth, write your own songs, believe in your power… and protect your D.
D is for destiny. Obviously.
