The amps have cooled, the last pint’s been poured, and it’s time to drag your sunburnt, soggy carcass back to reality… 🧳😢
Only on The Riff Report, where even farewells are full of riffs and ridiculousness.

🥲 CHAPTER 1: THE MORNING AFTER THE MADNESS

It’s Monday morning on the mountain. The stage is silent. The beer tents are barren. The campsite looks like a scene from Mad Max starring hangovers in hoodies.

You wake up to:

  • A crusty hoodie stuck to your face
  • Someone snoring under the tent, not in it
  • The sound of 3000 tents being unzipped in sad synchronisation
  • A seagull nicking your leftover chips

“I opened my eyes, saw three socks, no boots, and someone asleep in my chair. Classic Monday.” – Rhys, Steelhouse survivor

🛻 CHAPTER 2: THE GREAT PACK-UP OF SHAME

There are two kinds of packers at Steelhouse:

  1. The Organised Ones – Folding guy ropes, rolling tents, colour-coding crates like they’re in the military.
  2. The Rest of Us – Stuffing damp tarps into bin bags with tears in our eyes and glitter still on our faces.

Common Last Day Phrases:

  • “Where the hell is the tent bag?”
  • “This isn’t my sleeping bag, but it is now.”
  • “Just leave the gazebo. It’s part of the landscape now.”
  • “Anyone seen Dave? He was last spotted with a wheelie bin full of Carlsberg.”

“Our tent gave up before we did. It collapsed in the night and we just stayed in it. Like soggy human ravioli.” – Team Womb of Doom

🧻 CHAPTER 3: GOODBYE, BOGS (AND THANK YOU, JULIE)

One final pilgrimage to the portaloo, where you solemnly thank the festival gods and Julie the Cleanup Queen for keeping them mostly tolerable.

It’s emotional.
You reflect.
You vow to never take indoor plumbing for granted again.

“I cried. Not sure if it was the hangover, the smell, or the realisation I’d used my wristband as bog roll.” – Anonymous hero

🤝 CHAPTER 4: THE SAD GOODBYES (WITH MUDDY HUGS)

You hug strangers you met three days ago like old mates.
You fist-bump crew members and whisper “diolch, legend.”
You high-five the security guy who let you sneak that flask in Friday.
You wave at the mountain one last time like you’re leaving a sacred rock church.

Parting Rituals Include:

  • Group photos in the wreckage of Tent City
  • One final soggy singalong to Livin’ on a Prayer
  • Emotional vows of “SEE YOU NEXT YEAR, MUN!”
  • And the traditional Monday roast roll from the last food van standing 🍖🥪

📦 CHAPTER 5: THINGS PEOPLE ACTUALLY LEFT BEHIND

Every year, the Steelhouse Lost & Found becomes an archaeological dig site. This year’s haul includes:

  • 18 tents
  • 7 sleeping bags
  • 3 bras (all leopard print)
  • 1 wedding ring
  • A signed picture of Brian Blessed
  • 1 inflatable Ozzy Osbourne
  • And a dog. Yes. A dog. (Don’t worry, he was returned. His name was Lemmy.)

“We could run a second-hand festival just from the stuff people leave behind.” – Dan from Cleanup, wearing 4 sunglasses he found

🧠 CHAPTER 6: THE “NEVER AGAIN” LIES

As you trudge down the hill, bruised and broken:

  • Your back hurts
  • Your boots are more mud than boot
  • Your bank account has committed emotional sabotage
  • Your liver is writing a formal complaint to HR

And yet… as soon as the dust settles, your brain goes:

“That. Was. EPIC. Let’s do it again next year.”

🧡 CHAPTER 7: WHAT YOU TAKE HOME (BESIDES THE MUD)

Yeah, your tent’s trashed.
Yeah, your clothes smell like fire and regret.
But you leave with:

  • New mates
  • Killer memories
  • Voices hoarse from screaming
  • Hearts full from seeing your favourite bands absolutely smash it
  • And the glorious satisfaction of surviving the mountain once again

Steelhouse isn’t just a festival.
It’s a yearly reunion with the loudest family you never knew you had.
It’s a spiritual cleanse via classic rock and cider.
It’s home – even if it’s a bit muddy and smells like chips and sweat.

🎸 CHAPTER 8: PLANNING NEXT YEAR ON THE DRIVE HOME

By the time you hit the motorway:

  • The WhatsApp group’s buzzing
  • You’re pricing new tents
  • You’re wondering who next year’s headliner will be
  • You’ve already decided to take the Friday off work next year too

“I said never again. Then I remembered the bacon baps and the Thin Lizzy tribute. And I was like… yeah. Again.” – Lisa, 5-time veteran, master of tarp origami

🏁 FINAL CHORD: THANK YOU, STEELHOUSE

To the bands.
To the crew.
To the volunteers, the vendors, the punters, and the pint-spillers.

To you, reading this with mud still under your fingernails and songs still stuck in your head.

Diolch.

You made it up the mountain.
You rocked. You raved. You rained.
And we’ll see you again next year – bigger, louder, and even more chaotic.
