🌩️ “Bleed American in Germany, baby!”
When Jimmy Eat World were announced for Hurricane Festival 2025, a collective emo gasp rippled through Europe. And no wonder – these Arizona legends haven’t graced the German festival circuit this big since the mid-2000s. The rain was biblical, the air was charged, and thousands of soaked but smiling fans were ready to scream their lungs out to songs that soundtracked their heartbreak, triumphs, and awkward MySpace years. 💔💻
Did they deliver?
Mate, they blew the roof off a field with no roof. Proper job. Let’s dig in. 🎶
🎪 PRE-SHOW VIBES: TEARS, BEERS & BLACK EYELINER
Friday night, 8:45 PM, the crowd swelled around the Blue Stage, dripping wet from a long day of mosh pits and bratwurst. People were comparing Jimmy Eat World lyrics tattooed on their arms (we saw at least 6 “It just takes some time” ink jobs) and debating whether they’d open with Sweetness or Pain. Spoiler: neither.
The crowd?
A beautiful cocktail of millennial emos, curious Gen Z indie heads, and even a few dazed parents just vibing on nostalgia. It was like a school reunion hosted in a field by Kerrang! magazine. 🤘📻
🎬 THE SETLIST – EMO MASTERCLASS, START TO FINISH
Here’s how it all unfolded. And yes, we lost our voices by song four.
1. A Praise Chorus
Straight in with a Bleed American deep cut that had the die-hards screaming from the first note. That opening riff hit like thunder, and suddenly the muddy crowd was pogoing like it was 2002. The chorus? Absolute limbs. 💥🎤
2. Big Casino
Jim Adkins strutted across the stage like a man on a mission. The neon lights behind the band pulsed with Vegas glitz, and the “I’m the one who gets away!” line hit especially hard for every failed relationship survivor out there. 🎲🖤
3. All the Way (Stay)
Slowing things down just a tad, this recent gem had couples swaying and strangers hugging. We caught one lad crying into his beer – either emotional or just dropped €9 on another pint. 🍺💸
4. Bleed American
CARNAGE.
As soon as that opening snare slapped, the place exploded. Fists in the air, circle pits breaking out, and the chorus echoing across the German countryside like a war cry. “I’m not alone!” — you weren’t, mun. 🫂🔥
5. Just Tonight…
This moody banger brought the drama, the build-up, the ache. The lighting team nailed it here – blood red floods and shadowy silhouettes gave it a gothic church energy. And when that last chorus soared? Goosebumps. 🕯️
6. Something Loud
A newer track, but it hit like an old friend. The title couldn’t have been more accurate – loud, loud, LOUD. Crowd was bouncing. Someone even crowd-surfed holding a half-eaten pretzel. Legend. 🥨🤘
7. 23
Time for a tearjerker.
Jim stood centre-stage, bathed in blue, whispering the first lines like a confession. “I won’t always live in my regrets…” – you could hear sniffles all around. Raw. Real. Ridiculously beautiful. 😢💙
8. Work
Tidy rhythm section flex here – Zach Lind on drums is an absolute beast. The band locked in tight, and that hook (“Can we still be friends?”) stabbed us right in the teenage trauma. Still hits different. 🫀
9. Futures
One for the dreamers. The lights sparkled, Jim yelled “I always believed in futures!” and suddenly it felt like we could take on the world – or at least the walk back to camp through the mud bog. ⚡🗺️
10. Hear You Me
A hush fell.
Even the rowdy lads in denim cutoffs quieted down. Phones in the air. Lighters lit. This was a tribute moment – to friends lost, loves missed, and all the stuff we carry.
“May angels lead you in…”
Only in Wales, mun… would a song this soft be screamed so loud. 🕊️
11. Pain
Back into full gear! That intro riff stomped into action and the mosh pit rebooted like a 2004 iPod. Even security was bopping along. Cathartic chaos. 💀💃
12. Sweetness
OH. MY. EMO.
The crowd erupted like a pack of Mentos in Diet Coke.
The “Whoaaa-ohhh!” chants could’ve summoned the gods. Jim didn’t even sing half the song – he just let us scream every word.
This was the moment.
The festival peak.
Absolute scenes. 🕺🗣️🧨
13. The Middle
Because of course.
It’s the anthem. The crowd knew every syllable.
People were on shoulders. There were tears. Someone proposed (we think).
“Everything, everything will be just fine…”
And for 3 perfect minutes in a soggy German field – it really was. ✨🎶
🔊 SOUND & PRODUCTION – CLEANER THAN YOUR NAN’S WINDOWS
Shout out to the tech crew – this show sounded crisp. Even in the open air, every guitar stab, every snare crack, every vocal harmony came through crystal clear. Jimmy Eat World aren’t a flashy band – no pyro, no inflatable goats – but what they brought was precision, emotion, and absolute professional chaos. 🧼🔥
🤘 CROWD CHAOS – IN THE BEST WAY
- Crowd surfers? Dozens.
- Scream-crying fans? Hundreds.
- One bloke in a Batman onesie moshing during Pain? Legend.
There was no aggro, just joy – the kind only a band like Jimmy Eat World can bring. That sweet spot between crying in your tent and punch-dancing in a circle pit. 🦇🎉
🎤 JIM ADKINS – STILL GOT IT, MUN
Let’s talk about the frontman.
Jim’s voice? Still lush.
That emo twang, that howl, that high note at the end of Sweetness? Flawless. And the man’s still got that humble energy, like he’s surprised we’re still showing up. 🖤
He didn’t say much between songs – just “thank you” and “this means a lot.” But honestly, he didn’t need to. The songs did the talking. And we were all listening. 🎧👊
🛍️ MERCH CORNER – WE WANTED IT ALL
Their Hurricane-exclusive tour tee sold out before the set ended. It had “If you’re listening, sing it back” in big bold letters on the back.
Tidy design. Emotional damage. 10/10. 💸👕
🍻 POST-SHOW AFTERGLOW – PUB CHAT VIBES
After their set, every bar queue was buzzing with stories:
- “Did you see that guy lose his shoe during Bleed American?”
- “That run from 23 to Pain was actual sorcery.”
- “I haven’t cried like that since my ex ghosted me in 2007.”
Jimmy Eat World didn’t just play a show.
They gave us a healing session wrapped in distortion and nostalgia. And we were absolutely here for it. 🙌
🏁 FINAL VERDICT: HURRICANE’S EMO HURRICANE 🌀
Rating: 11/10 – Because sometimes the middle is actually the peak.
This was the sleeper set of Hurricane Festival 2025. People came for the headliners, but they’ll remember Jimmy Eat World.
They didn’t need fireworks. They were the fireworks.
And as the final chords faded and the crowd staggered off to find overpriced currywurst and dry socks, one thing was clear:
Sometimes, nostalgia isn’t just a throwback. It’s a lifeline.
And Jimmy Eat World tossed it to us like an emo lifesaver. 🛟🖤
