The Riff Report’s Full Budget Guide to Planet Rock’s Winter Weekender in Porthcawl

January in South Wales is usually a cocktail of rain, wind, cold fingers and wondering why you ever left the house.

But chuck in a load of massive riffs, a caravan full of mates and a weekend at Trecco Bay and suddenly January starts looking a lot more interesting. 😂🤘

Planet Rock’s Winter’s End 2027 is heading back to Trecco Bay Holiday Park in Porthcawl from Thursday 28th to Sunday 31st January 2027, and for rock fans planning to make a weekend of it, there’s one very important question:

💷 How much is this actually going to cost?

Well, butt, that depends on how you want to do it.

You can go full caravan luxury, keep things budget-friendly, stay elsewhere and just grab a weekend ticket, or spend half your wages on beer and merch before Friday night has even finished.

So here’s The Riff Report guide to budgeting for Winter’s End 2027.

🎸 What Is Winter’s End?

Winter’s End is Planet Rock’s annual indoor rock weekender, bringing bands and fans together at Trecco Bay Holiday Park, Porthcawl.

Instead of pitching a tent on a freezing field, you can spend your weekend in proper holiday-park accommodation.

That means:

🔥 Heating
🚿 Showers
☕ A kettle
🍳 Kitchen facilities
🛏️ An actual bed

Honestly, after enough wet British festivals, having walls starts feeling like VIP treatment.

🎤 Who’s Playing Winter’s End 2027?

The 2027 edition already has plenty to get excited about.

Acts announced include:

  • Bywater Call
  • The Answer
  • Beaux Gris Gris & The Apocalypse
  • Dan Byrne
  • LN
  • Ward XVI
  • Black Orchid Empire
  • The Dust Coda
  • Winter in Eden
  • Dead Writers

And with more announcements still possible, the bill is already looking tasty.

Proper job. 🔥

🎟️ Winter’s End 2027 Ticket Options

Winter’s End works a little differently from a standard festival.

You can either book:

Accommodation packages with festival entry included

or

Non-accommodation weekend tickets

Accommodation is generally offered across three levels:

🥇 Gold

Gold is the premium option.

It includes upgraded accommodation and access to the full event, with an official Winter’s End event T-shirt included for each person booked on the package.

Because apparently rock fans need another black T-shirt.

Of course we do.

We always do. 😂

🥈 Silver

Silver gives you a solid middle-ground option.

You still get accommodation and festival admission, but without some of the Gold extras.

If you’re sharing with several mates, this can be a cracking option because the overall cost can be split between the group.

🥉 Bronze

Bronze is the more budget-conscious accommodation tier.

If your main requirement is somewhere warm to sleep after a full day of bands, beers and shouting at guitar solos, Bronze could be exactly what you need.

🏠 Why Sharing a Caravan Makes Sense

This is where Winter’s End can become much more affordable.

If four or six of you share an accommodation package, the price per person drops significantly compared with one or two people trying to cover the same package.

It also gives you somewhere to make breakfast, store snacks and recover from the previous night’s chaos.

Festival morning routine:

Wake up.

Check head.

Check phone.

Check whether Dave made it back.

Put kettle on.

Sorted. 😂☕

🎟️ Non-Accommodation Tickets

If you live close to Porthcawl or already have somewhere nearby to stay, you don’t necessarily need a Trecco Bay accommodation package.

Weekend tickets without accommodation are also an option.

That could be ideal for fans travelling from areas including:

📍 Bridgend
📍 Cardiff
📍 Swansea
📍 Port Talbot
📍 Neath
📍 The South Wales Valleys

If you’ve got a mate nearby with a spare sofa, suddenly you’ve hacked the entire festival economy.

💳 Payment Plans

Payment plans are available for Winter’s End packages, which can make the weekend much easier to budget for.

Instead of taking one massive financial uppercut, you can spread the cost across several payments.

That’s especially useful when you’re also trying to pay for gigs, festivals, merch and whatever band has just announced another limited-edition vinyl.

Rock music: ruining savings accounts since forever. 🤘💷

🚗 Parking

Another little win:

Parking is free.

That means one less extra charge eating into your beer-and-merch fund.

Guests staying on-site may have parking near their accommodation, while other vehicles can use the main car park.

🍔 Food Budget

One of the biggest advantages of staying in a caravan is being able to sort some of your own food.

You could easily bring:

🥓 Breakfast supplies
🥪 Sandwiches
🍜 Instant noodles
🍕 Easy meals
☕ Tea and coffee
🍫 Snacks
🥤 Soft drinks

A supermarket run before arriving could seriously reduce your weekend costs.

Suggested Food Budget

Budget: £30–£50
Mostly supermarket food and snacks.

Comfortable: £60–£100
Mix of caravan food, takeaways and eating around the holiday park.

Full holiday mode: £100+
Breakfast out, lunch out, dinner out and absolutely no intention whatsoever of touching the cooker.

🍺 The Dangerous Bit: Beer Money

Right.

Now we get to the category capable of destroying every carefully prepared budget.

Drinks.

😂🍺

How much you spend depends entirely on what sort of festival person you are.

If you’re having a few drinks each evening, your budget might stay sensible.

If you suddenly find yourself buying rounds for six strangers because you all agreed that Thin Lizzy are brilliant, things can escalate rapidly.

Suggested Drinks Budget

🍺 £30–£50 – fairly sensible

🍺 £60–£100 – standard rock weekend territory

🍺 £100+ – Saturday night has gone rogue

You know which category you belong in.

👕 Merch Budget

You definitely won’t buy merch.

Absolutely not.

You’ve already got enough shirts.

Then you walk past the merch stand.

Ten minutes later you’re carrying three shirts, a hoodie, a patch and something you don’t even remember paying for.

Festival law. 😂

Allow around £30–£100+ if you know merch is likely to tempt you.

⛽ Travel Costs

Your travel budget will obviously depend on where you’re coming from.

For Welsh fans, Porthcawl is relatively easy to reach from much of South Wales.

If you’re travelling from further away, remember to budget for:

⛽ Fuel
🚆 Trains
🚕 Taxis
🅿️ Any off-site parking
🍔 Service station food

Car sharing can make a massive difference.

Four people splitting fuel is always going to feel better than paying the entire thing yourself.

💰 The Riff Report Weekend Spending Budget

Leaving aside your actual ticket or accommodation package, we’d suggest roughly:

Expense

Suggested Budget

Food

£30–£100+

Drinks

£30–£100+

Merch

£30–£100+

Travel

Depends on distance

Emergency cash

£20–£50

That means around £110–£350+ in spending money on top of tickets and accommodation would give most fans a reasonable cushion.

Can you do it cheaper?

Absolutely.

Can you spend more?

Oh yes.

Very easily.

Especially after you’ve had three pints and discovered the merch stand takes contactless.

🤘 Is Winter’s End Good Value?

For rock fans who hate traditional winter camping, Winter’s End offers something a little different.

You’re getting live music without having to spend four nights inside a damp nylon triangle.

You’ve got accommodation.

You’ve got proper beds.

You’ve got food options.

You’ve got bars.

And you’ve got a weekend packed with rock music right here in Wales.

That alone makes it an appealing proposition.

🔥 The Riff Report Verdict

The exact price of Winter’s End 2027 depends heavily on which ticket or accommodation option you choose and how many people you’re sharing with.

But the golden rule is simple:

Get a gang together and split the cost.

A shared caravan, supermarket food and a vaguely responsible drinking budget can make the weekend surprisingly manageable.

Then Friday arrives.

You hear the first guitar riff.

Someone says, “Fancy another pint?”

And the entire financial plan goes straight out the window.

Beautiful. 😂🤘
