The Riff Report’s Ultimate Travel Guide to Trecco Bay, Porthcawl

The riffs are calling, the caravan is waiting, and somewhere in South Wales there’s already a bloke packing enough black T-shirts for a six-month world tour.

Yep — Winter’s End 2027 is coming! 🤘🔥

Planet Rock’s winter rock ‘n’ roll weekender returns to Trecco Bay Holiday Park in Porthcawl, South Wales, from Thursday 28th to Sunday 31st January 2027.

But before you can get stuck into the bands, beers and beautiful caravan-based chaos, you’ve actually got to get there.

So whether you’re travelling by car, train, bus, taxi or plane, here’s The Riff Report’s complete guide to getting yourself to Winter’s End 2027.

🎸 Winter’s End 2027 – The Basics

📅 Thursday 28th – Sunday 31st January 2027

📍 Trecco Bay Holiday Park

🏖️ Porthcawl, South Wales

📮 Postcode: CF36 5PW

🎸 Planet Rock’s Winter’s End

Trecco Bay is a massive holiday park sitting on the eastern side of Porthcawl.

And unlike your traditional outdoor festival, you aren’t arriving to pitch a tent in a field while horizontal Welsh rain tries to remove your trousers.

You’ve got caravans.

You’ve got proper beds.

You’ve got heating.

You’ve got showers.

You’ve got a kettle.

Luxury, mun. 😂☕

🚗 Getting to Winter’s End 2027 by Car

For many festival-goers, driving will be the easiest way to reach Trecco Bay.

This is particularly true if you’re staying for the entire weekend and bringing food, clothes, booze, merch money and enough emergency snacks to survive the apocalypse.

Pop this into your sat-nav:

📍 CF36 5PW

Trecco Bay Holiday Park is close to Porthcawl and accessible from the M4 motorway.

If you’re travelling along the M4, you’ll generally want to head towards the Bridgend/Porthcawl area before following local signs towards Porthcawl and Trecco Bay.

As you get closer, follow the appropriate signage for the holiday park.

And remember:

Don’t blindly trust your sat-nav if temporary event signage tells you differently.

We’ve all followed Google Maps down a road that increasingly resembles a farmer’s driveway.

😂🚜

🅿️ What About Parking?

Trecco Bay has parking facilities, making driving particularly convenient for people staying on-site.

Depending on your accommodation and instructions issued for the event, you may be directed towards parking near your caravan or another designated parking area.

Keep an eye on your booking information before travelling because arrival procedures can change.

And whatever you do…

Remember where you parked.

“Somewhere near a caravan” isn’t particularly helpful when you’re surrounded by approximately nine million caravans.

🚆 Getting to Winter’s End by Train

No car?

No problem.

You can still get to Winter’s End using public transport.

The important thing to know is:

🚨 Porthcawl does NOT have its own railway station.

Your most useful railway station is generally:

🚆 Bridgend Railway Station

Bridgend has rail connections towards destinations including:

🚆 Cardiff
🚆 Swansea
🚆 Newport
🚆 Bristol
🚆 London

with wider connections available through the national rail network.

Once you arrive at Bridgend, you’ll need to complete the final part of the journey to Porthcawl.

🚕 Bridgend Station to Trecco Bay

If you’ve arrived at Bridgend carrying a weekend bag, coat, merch, snacks and everything else you’ve convinced yourself is “essential”, a taxi is probably the least stressful final leg.

Grab a taxi from Bridgend towards:

Trecco Bay Holiday Park, Porthcawl – CF36 5PW

Travelling with friends?

Even better.

Split the fare.

Four rock fans sharing a taxi is considerably cheaper than four separate taxis — and you’ve already got people available to help carry the luggage.

Proper job. 🤘

🚌 Getting to Winter’s End by Bus

Bus services operate between the Bridgend and Porthcawl areas, giving train travellers another option for completing the journey.

This can be one of the cheaper ways to travel.

However, remember what you’re actually doing.

You’re going away for several days.

Which probably means:

🎒 Backpack

🧳 Weekend bag

🧥 Winter coat

👢 Boots

🍫 Snacks

🎸 Approximately twelve band shirts

So while the bus may save money, a taxi could save your sanity.

Choose your fighter. 😂

🚆 Travelling From Cardiff

Coming from Cardiff?

You’ve got a relatively straightforward journey.

The easiest public transport option is generally:

Cardiff → Bridgend → Porthcawl/Trecco Bay

Catch a train from Cardiff Central to Bridgend and then complete the journey by bus or taxi.

Driving is also straightforward via the M4 towards Bridgend and Porthcawl.

For South Wales rock fans, this is practically a home fixture.

🐉🤘

🚗 Travelling From Swansea

Swansea fans also have a pretty manageable journey.

By car, you’ll generally head east along the M4 towards Bridgend, before turning towards Porthcawl.

By train:

Swansea → Bridgend → Taxi/Bus → Trecco Bay

Simple.

Just don’t accidentally fall asleep on the train and wake up somewhere completely different.

We’ve seen festival weekends begin in stranger ways.

🐉 Travelling From Port Talbot

Coming from Port Talbot?

You’re laughing.

Head along the M4 towards Bridgend and then continue towards Porthcawl.

Public transport travellers can also use the rail network towards Bridgend before grabbing a taxi or bus for the final section.

Short journey.

Massive weekend.

Tidy. 🤘

🌉 Travelling From Bristol

Coming over from Bristol?

You’ll generally be heading across South Wales towards Bridgend before dropping down towards Porthcawl.

If you’re travelling by train, you’ll likely need to head towards Cardiff and/or Bridgend, depending on your service.

Once you reach Bridgend, it’s the familiar final stage:

🚕 Taxi

or

🚌 Bus

to Porthcawl and Trecco Bay.

🚗 Travelling From Birmingham

For fans travelling down from the Midlands, driving may be the simplest option — particularly if several people are travelling together.

Head towards South Wales and eventually towards the M4/Bridgend/Porthcawl area.

Alternatively, rail connections can get you towards South Wales before connecting onwards to Bridgend.

If you’re bringing enough luggage to recreate a small branch of Primark, though, the car wins.

🚆 Travelling From London

Coming from London?

Public transport is absolutely doable.

Rail services run from London towards South Wales, with connections allowing you to reach Bridgend.

From there:

Bridgend → Taxi/Bus → Trecco Bay

If you’re travelling as a group, driving may also become cost-effective once fuel costs are split.

Just remember that after three days of rock ‘n’ roll, the return drive could feel significantly longer than the journey there.

Coffee.

Lots of coffee.

☕😂

✈️ Flying to Winter’s End

Yes, people really do travel serious distances for rock festivals.

And we salute every single one of you. 🤘🌍

The closest major airport to the Porthcawl area is:

✈️ Cardiff Airport

From Cardiff Airport, you’ll need onward transport towards Bridgend/Porthcawl.

Depending on your arrival time and budget, options could include public transport, taxi or hire car.

If you’re flying internationally, other airports including Bristol may also be worth investigating depending on flight availability and price.

Always compare the entire journey, not simply the flight.

A £20 cheaper flight isn’t much of a bargain if you then spend another £70 trying to reach Porthcawl.

🚕 Travelling as a Group? SHARE!

One of the easiest ways to reduce the cost of getting to Winter’s End is travelling together.

If four people are heading from the same area, suddenly you’ve got:

⛽ Shared fuel

🚕 Shared taxi fares

🅿️ Shared vehicle

🎵 Shared road-trip playlist

🍬 Shared snacks

And at least one person repeatedly asking:

“Are we nearly there yet?”

Every.

Twenty.

Minutes.

😂

🌧️ REMEMBER — THIS IS SOUTH WALES IN JANUARY

This bit matters.

Winter’s End might be indoors, but unfortunately nobody has managed to put the entirety of Porthcawl indoors yet.

January weather on the South Wales coast can be cold, wet and windy.

Sometimes all three within approximately seven minutes.

Bring:

🧥 Warm coat

🌧️ Waterproof jacket

👢 Sensible footwear

🧤 Gloves

🧣 Scarf

☂️ Umbrella — although Porthcawl wind may decide it’s now a satellite dish

Don’t underestimate the walk between your accommodation and the venues either.

Being warm beats looking cool.

Besides…

You’re at a rock festival.

We’re all wearing black anyway.

🧳 The Riff Report Travel Checklist

Before leaving home, make sure you’ve got:

  • Festival booking confirmation
  • Accommodation details
  • Photo ID
  • Phone
  • Phone charger
  • Power bank
  • Wallet/cards
  • Medication
  • Warm clothing
  • Waterproof coat
  • Comfortable footwear
  • Toiletries
  • Snacks
  • Travel tickets if using public transport
  • Caravan information
  • Emergency contact details
  • Approximately 400 black T-shirts

Okay.

Maybe you don’t need 400.

397 should do it.

😂🤘

⏰ Don’t Leave the Journey Until the Last Minute

If you’re travelling by train or bus, check your timetable shortly before the event.

January can bring:

🌧️ Bad weather

🚆 Rail disruption

🚧 Roadworks

💨 Strong winds

🚗 Traffic

And Wales occasionally likes throwing all five at you simultaneously.

Give yourself plenty of time.

Getting there early and having a cuppa in the caravan beats sprinting across Trecco Bay while your favourite band is already playing.

🤘 The Riff Report’s Best Option

For groups staying at Trecco Bay, travelling by car is probably the easiest overall option.

You can load everything into the boot, split the fuel costs and drive straight to the holiday park.

For solo travellers or anyone who doesn’t drive, train to Bridgend followed by a taxi or bus to Trecco Bay is a straightforward alternative.

Either way, once you see that glorious Porthcawl coastline…

You’re nearly there.

🎸 WINTER’S END 2027

📍 Trecco Bay Holiday Park, Porthcawl, South Wales

📮 CF36 5PW

📅 Thursday 28th – Sunday 31st January 2027

🚗 Car: Easy access from the M4/Bridgend area

🚆 Train: Travel to Bridgend

🚕 Taxi: Bridgend to Trecco Bay

🚌 Bus: Services available towards Porthcawl

✈️ Airport: Cardiff Airport is the closest major airport

And there we have it.

Pack the bags.

Charge the phone.

Load the playlist.

Fill the car with snacks.

Pick up your mates.

And point yourself towards Porthcawl.

Because somewhere at Trecco Bay, an amp is waiting to be turned up to an irresponsible volume.
