Saturday at Download Festival 2026 felt like someone had taken everything great about rock and metal festivals, turned the volume up to eleven, and launched it directly at Donington Park.
After a muddy start to the week and a Thursday that saw District X needing emergency sand deliveries to stop people skating around like Bambi on ice, Saturday arrived with glorious weather, massive crowds, and enough riffs to power the National Grid.
From the moment the arena gates opened, Downloaders were flooding through the entrances armed with pints, sun cream, battle jackets and a determination to see as many bands as physically possible.
And what a day it turned out to be.

Let’s get one thing straight.
Those Damn Crows absolutely smashed it.
The Bridgend boys stepped onto the stage looking like they belonged there and delivered a performance packed with huge choruses, massive riffs and enough energy to light up Donington.
The crowd response was phenomenal, with Welsh flags flying proudly throughout the arena and fans singing every word back at the band.
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again.
Get these boys on the Main Stage.
Immediately.
LANDMVRKS DELIVER A MASTERCLASS 💥
If there was an award for causing absolute carnage on Saturday, LANDMVRKS would be right up there.
Circle pits appeared from nowhere.
Crowd surfers launched overhead every few seconds.
Security teams got an unexpected workout.
The French metalcore outfit were relentless from start to finish and delivered one of the most energetic sets of the entire weekend.
Pure chaos.
Pure Download.
TRIVIUM REMIND EVERYONE WHY THEY’RE ELITE 🎸🔥
Believe it or not, this was The Riff Report’s first time seeing Trivium live.
What have we been doing all these years?
Matt Heafy and company were absolutely sensational.
Every riff landed perfectly.
Every solo hit hard.
The crowd sang along like their lives depended on it.
This wasn’t just a great set.
This was one of those performances that instantly makes you want to buy tickets the next time they’re anywhere within a hundred miles.
We’ll definitely be seeing them again.
GUNS N’ ROSES – THREE HOURS OF ROCK HISTORY… AND A LOT OF EMPTY SPACE
The big talking point of Saturday was undoubtedly Guns N’ Roses.
The legendary headliners delivered a marathon three-hour set packed with classics and fan favourites.
Nobody can deny the influence or legacy of Guns N’ Roses.
But as the evening progressed, something became increasingly noticeable.
People were leaving.
Large gaps started appearing throughout the crowd.
By the latter stages of the set there was noticeably more space around the arena than many expected for a Download headliner.
For some fans it was a dream set.
For others, the length appeared to be a challenge.
One thing is certain though — it sparked plenty of debate around the festival site and online.
ALL AMERICAN REJECTS STEAL THE CONVERSATION 👀
One of the biggest conversations happening around Donington on Saturday wasn’t even about the headliners.
It was about All American Rejects.
Many fans left their set asking exactly the same question:
“Should they have been higher on the bill?”
The crowd turnout was huge.
The singalongs were massive.
The atmosphere was electric.
Whether you’re team Guns N’ Roses or team All American Rejects, one thing is clear — Download fans love a good debate.
