📍 Dominion Theatre, London
🎶 “Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?” Nope – this is a full-on rock opera explosion!
⚡ The Story
Set in a dystopian future where musical instruments are banned and rock music is a distant memory, the world is ruled by the corporate Globalsoft and its tyrannical leader Killer Queen. Individuality is outlawed. Enter Galileo Figaro and Scaramouche, two misfits who hear voices (aka Queen lyrics!) and set out to rediscover the lost freedom of rock ‘n’ roll.
It’s wild. It’s weird. It’s like 1984 got mashed up with a jukebox and blasted through a Marshall stack. 🔊🔥
🎭 The Cast & Performances
-
Galileo Figaro – The reluctant rock messiah, delivering vocals that are no easy feat when you’re channeling Freddie.
-
Scaramouche – Sassy, sarcastic and full of vocal fire. Their chemistry sparks like a glam-rock lightning bolt.
-
Killer Queen – Camp, commanding, and strutting like she owns every inch of the Dominion stage.
-
Brit & Oz – The rebel couple bringing big laughs and even bigger high notes.
Every cast member nails the balance of heartfelt rebellion and over-the-top glam.
🎵 The Music (Obviously)
Here’s where the show really punches the sky – a relentless, powerhouse delivery of Queen’s greatest hits including:
-
“Bohemian Rhapsody” (goosebumps, guaranteed)
-
“Somebody to Love” (epic vocal gymnastics)
-
“Radio Ga Ga” (audience claps included)
-
“We Are the Champions” (a proper singalong moment)
-
“We Will Rock You” (stomp-stomp-clap your heart out)
Each track is reinvented just enough to fit the plot, without ever losing the spirit of the originals. Freddie would approve. 🕺👑
🎨 The Set & Visuals
The Dominion has been transformed into a dystopian rock arena. Expect laser lights, smoke machines, oversized video screens, post-apocalyptic fashion, and neon-drenched chaos. It’s part Mad Max, part Top of the Pops.
😂 The Humour
Ben Elton’s script is packed with cheeky one-liners, pop culture gags, and rock references that Queen fans will love. Sure, it’s camp. Sure, it’s silly. But it never takes itself too seriously – and that’s part of its charm.
🙌 Verdict
Tidy as hell! This musical is less about plot perfection and more about pure rock spectacle. It’s a love letter to Queen, to rebellion, to individuality, and to the magic of live performance.
Whether you’re a die-hard Queen fan or just looking for a night of theatrical fun and face-melting vocals – this one’s for you.
⭐ Final Score:
🎸🎸🎸🎸☆ – Four out of five air guitars!
Because nothing beats seeing a full theatre stomp and clap to “We Will Rock You.”
