Ozzy Osbourne.
The man, the myth, the mumbling metal god. The Prince of Darkness himself. A bloke who has done everything from fronting Black Sabbath to accidentally creating one of the most iconic moments in music history by biting the head off a bat. Heโs fallen off quad bikes, survived enough drugs to sedate an elephant, and once had an entire MTV show based around him swearing at kitchen furniture.
But hereโs the thing nobody talks about enough: Ozzy has one of the funniest cameo careers in rock and roll.
The dude has appeared in films, TV shows, cartoons, crime procedurals, family animations, adverts, and even video games. And every single time he shows up, itโs an event.
So, we here at The Riff Report have done what we do best: strapped ourselves into the rollercoaster of rock history, poured a few too many drinks, and put together the definitive list of Ozzyโs greatest cameos ever โ complete with breakdowns, trivia, and our patented Metal Cameo Ratingโข system (out of 10 skulls ๐).
Buckle up, because this is about to get weirder than Ozzy trying to work a TV remote.
๐ฌ 1. Little Nicky (2000) โ Bat Snack 2.0
Ah yes, the Adam Sandler โdevil comedyโ nobody really asked for, but everyone remembers for one reason: Ozzy Osbourne biting the head off another bat.
In Little Nicky, Sandler plays Satanโs son, chaos ensues, and in the climax, who else but Ozzy saves the day? Instead of punching demons or shooting holy lasers, he does what Ozzy does best: chomps the head clean off a bat. The crowd goes wild, the devil panics, and metal fans everywhere roar with laughter because they know.
Itโs the ultimate self-parody โ Ozzy embracing his most infamous scandal and turning it into comedy gold. By this point, the bat-biting legend was nearly 20 years old, but Sandler knew exactly what fans wanted.
Behind-the-scenes trivia: Ozzy almost didnโt agree at first, worrying about being typecast (as if he wasnโt already typecast as the guy who bites bats). But Sharon convinced him it would be funny. Spoiler: she was right.
Metal Cameo Rating: ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ (10/10 skulls). Perfection.
๐ฌ 2. Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002) โ Groovy, Baby
Austin Powers was peak early-2000s ridiculousness โ shagadelic spies, disco villains, andโฆ the Osbournes? Yep.
In Goldmember, Mike Myers decided the world needed a random cutaway featuring Ozzy, Sharon, Jack, and Kelly watching the chaos unfold on TV. Ozzy grumbles about the plot not making sense, Sharon scolds him, Jack sulks, and Kelly whines. In other words: exactly what they were doing at home anyway.
Itโs quick, itโs silly, but itโs also the most accurate cameo of all time. They literally just filmed the Osbournes being the Osbournes.
Metal Cameo Rating: ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ (8/10 skulls). Groovy confusion.
๐บ 3. South Park โ Chef Aid (1997) โ Cartoony Carnage
South Park has never shied away from metalheads, and when they put together their Chef Aid episode, they went big. Elton John, Meat Loaf, and Isaac Hayes all showed up โ and so did our Ozzy.
Animated Ozzy belts out a version of โIron Man,โ with his trademark mumbling fully intact. Itโs short, itโs chaotic, and it proves Ozzyโs voice is recognisable even in crudely-drawn cartoon form.
Metal Cameo Rating: ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ (9/10 skulls). Animated chaos = chefโs kiss.
๐ฌ 4. Ghostbusters (2016) โ The Sharon Whisper
The 2016 Ghostbusters reboot got a lot of flak, but one thing it did perfectly? Ozzyโs blink-and-youโll-miss-it cameo.
During the concert scene where ghouls attack, the camera cuts to Ozzy, looking dazed and muttering:
โSharon!โ
Thatโs it. Thatโs the whole cameo. And yetโฆ itโs pure art. Because if Ozzy really did stumble into a haunted gig, thatโs exactly what heโd do.
Metal Cameo Rating: ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ (7/10 skulls). Short but iconic.
๐ฌ 5. Trick or Treat (1986) โ Ozzy the Televangelist
This one deserves a medal for irony. In the cult horror flick Trick or Treat, Ozzy playsโฆ wait for itโฆ a Christian televangelist condemning heavy metal as the work of the devil.
Yes. Ozzy Osbourne.
The man who sang about war pigs, got banned from cities for urinating on landmarks, and basically is heavy metalโฆ playing a preacher telling kids not to listen to heavy metal.
Itโs delicious irony. Itโs campy. Itโs peak 80s. And honestly, it might be his most genius cameo ever.
Metal Cameo Rating: ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ (10/10 skulls). Too perfect.
๐ฎ 6. World of Warcraft Commercial (2008) โ Warlock Ozzy
When Blizzard launched their celebrity World of Warcraft campaign, they went straight for Ozzy.
In the ad, Ozzy declares himself the Prince of Darkness while showing off his in-game warlock character. He snarls, โIโm the Prince of Darkness, I donโt do cute,โ before promptly getting obliterated by the game.
Metalheads + gamers = perfect crossover.
Metal Cameo Rating: ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ (8/10 skulls). Metal MMORPG glory.
๐ฌ 7. Gnomeo & Juliet (2011) โ Fawn the Deer
Yes, this actually happened. Ozzy voices a cartoon deer named Fawn in this bizarre garden-gnome retelling of Romeo & Juliet.
Hearing Ozzyโs distinctive Brummie mumble come out of a cute animated deer is one of the strangest experiences you can have sober. Kids watching had no idea who he was โ but parents in the cinema were cracking up.
Metal Cameo Rating: ๐๐๐๐๐๐ (6/10 skulls). Confusing, but amazing.
๐บ 8. CSI: Miami (2010) โ Murder at the Metal Show
What happens when you combine Horatio Caineโs sunglasses with a Prince of Darkness gig? A murder mystery, obviously.
Ozzy and Kelly cameo as themselves during a CSI: Miami episode where โ shock horror โ a crime happens at one of their gigs. Cue moody guitar riffs, moody cops, and Ozzy looking like he wandered into the wrong venue.
Metal Cameo Rating: ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ (7/10 skulls). Needed more bats.
๐ฌ 9. Funny People (2009) โ Live Footage Ozzy
Adam Sandler again (because apparently, he collects Ozzy cameos like Pokรฉmon). Ozzy appears in live footage rocking out, reminding audiences that while comedians tell jokes, Ozzy is the joke and the punchline all rolled into one.
Metal Cameo Rating: ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ (8/10 skulls). Pure, unfiltered Ozzy.
๐ Honourable Mentions
- The Osbournes (2002โ2005): Not technically a cameo, but Ozzy swearing at toasters was better TV than half of Netflix today.
- Zoolander (2001): Brief appearance at the โDerelicteโ show โ because of course Ozzy would attend a fashion show mocking homeless chic.
- MTV Awards & Random TV Specials: If there was a stage, a microphone, and an excuse for Ozzy to yell โSharon!โ, he was there.
๐ Why Ozzyโs Cameos Work
Hereโs the thing: Ozzy doesnโt act in cameos. He justโฆ exists. Heโs chaotic, unpredictable, and 100% himself. Thatโs why he works everywhere โ from family animations to raunchy comedies.
- In comedies, heโs the punchline.
- In horror, heโs the irony.
- In adverts, heโs the chaos.
- In real life, heโs still somehow a cartoon character.
Heโs basically his own genre of cameo.
โก Final Thoughts
Ozzy Osbourne is proof that you donโt need acting lessons when your entire life has been one long improv scene. Heโs played himself, a deer, a preacher, and a confused grandad yelling at ghosts โ and every single time, it works.
Long may the Prince of Darkness reign over Hollywood cameos. And long may he continue to shout โSharon!โ in situations where it makes absolutely no sense.
Total Metal Cameo Average: 8.3/10 skulls ๐.
Certified batshit brilliance.
