๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿ”ฅ KELLY OSBOURNE UNLEASHES ON DEE SNIDER AFTER COMMENTS ABOUT OZZYโ€™S SONGWRITING LEGACY

Well thenโ€ฆ someoneโ€™s just kicked the hornetโ€™s nest of heavy metal history. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Kelly Osbourne has launched a furious response at Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider after the veteran rocker questioned the extent of Ozzy Osbourneโ€™s songwriting contributions during his legendary career.

And Kelly?

Yeahโ€ฆ she absolutely wasnโ€™t having it.

Sniderโ€™s comments touched one of rock and metalโ€™s oldest arguments โ€” exactly how much of the music associated with Ozzy was actually written by the Prince of Darkness himself, and how much came from the incredible musicians and songwriters surrounding him.

But coming just over a year after Ozzyโ€™s death, Kelly clearly felt there was a time, place and way to have that conversation.

And this, in her eyes, wasnโ€™t it.

๐ŸŽค WHAT DID DEE SNIDER SAY?

The controversy erupted after Snider discussed Ozzyโ€™s songwriting legacy, pointing towards the major contributions made by other musicians throughout both the Black Sabbath and solo eras.

In particular, Snider highlighted Geezer Butler, who famously wrote a huge amount of Black Sabbathโ€™s lyrics, while also referencing former Ozzy bassist Bob Daisley and Motรถrhead legend Lemmy Kilmister.

Daisley was a crucial creative force during Ozzyโ€™s early solo career, while Lemmy famously contributed lyrics to songs on 1991โ€™s No More Tears, including โ€œMama, Iโ€™m Coming Home.โ€

These contributions arenโ€™t exactly buried secrets in the metal history books.

But Sniderโ€™s remarks appeared to suggest that Ozzyโ€™s reputation as a songwriter should be viewed differently because of the musicians who helped create the songs around him.

That was enough to send Kelly into battle mode.

๐Ÿ”ฅ KELLY: โ€œSPECTACULARLY CLASSLESSโ€

Kelly responded via social media with an absolutely scorching defence of her dad, describing Sniderโ€™s remarks as โ€œspectacularly classless.โ€

Rather than getting bogged down in songwriting credits, Kelly focused on something much bigger:

Ozzy Osbourneโ€™s legacy.

Her argument was essentially that Ozzyโ€™s importance cannot simply be reduced to who wrote which lyric, riff or chord progression.

Weโ€™re talking about a bloke whose career stretched across nearly six decades.

From those terrifying opening notes of โ€œBlack Sabbathโ€ through Paranoid, Master of Reality and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, before somehow launching another enormous career with albums including Blizzard of Ozz, Diary of a Madman and No More Tears.

Ozzy didnโ€™t merely sing heavy metal.

He became one of its most recognisable faces.

๐Ÿ˜ฌ KELLY DIDNโ€™T STOP THEREโ€ฆ

Kelly then turned the comparison directly towards Snider.

And bloody hell, mun.

Gloves off.

She argued that while Snider enjoyed a comparatively brief period of major mainstream success with Twisted Sister during the 1980s, Ozzy remained a globally recognised rock figure for decades.

She went even further, branding Snider โ€œirrelevantโ€ to todayโ€™s music industry and suggesting his comments were an attempt to generate attention by attacking Ozzyโ€™s legacy.

Ouch.

Somewhere, somebody has just quietly removed โ€œWeโ€™re Not Gonna Take Itโ€ from the family BBQ playlist. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

๐Ÿฆ‡ BUT HEREโ€™S WHERE THE ARGUMENT GETS INTERESTINGโ€ฆ

Strip away the social-media flamethrowers for a second and there is actually a fascinating rock-history debate buried underneath all this chaos.

Was Ozzy surrounded by extraordinary songwriters?

Absolutely.

Geezer Butlerโ€™s contribution to Black Sabbath is monumental.

Tony Iommi created riffs that practically wrote the blueprint for heavy metal.

Bill Wardโ€™s drumming helped give early Sabbath its unmistakable swing and menace.

Then Ozzyโ€™s solo career brought musicians including Randy Rhoads, Bob Daisley, Lee Kerslake, Jake E. Lee and Zakk Wylde into his orbit.

But hereโ€™s the thing.

Great bands and great records are almost always collaborative.

The fact other musicians helped create legendary songs doesnโ€™t automatically erase the importance of the person standing behind the microphone.

And Ozzy possessed something incredibly difficult to quantify.

Identity.

You could hear about three seconds of that voice and know exactly who it was.

That eerie, vulnerable, unmistakably Brummie howl became part of the DNA of heavy metal.

๐ŸŽธ OZZY WAS NEVER JUST โ€œTHE BLOKE SINGINGโ€

Thereโ€™s another element that sometimes disappears when people start arguing over songwriting percentages.

Ozzy was a performer.

And what a performer.

He could walk onto a stage, clap his hands over his head and scream:

โ€œLET ME SEE YOUR FING HANDS!โ€*

โ€ฆand suddenly tens of thousands of people were doing exactly what they were told.

Thatโ€™s not something you can put into a songwriting credit.

Neither is charisma.

Neither is personality.

Neither is the ability to turn yourself into a cultural icon recognised by people whoโ€™ve never bought a metal album in their lives.

Ozzy somehow went from working-class Aston lad to Black Sabbath frontman, solo superstar, festival figurehead, reality television phenomenon and one of Britainโ€™s most recognisable entertainers.

Thatโ€™s a hell of a journey.

๐Ÿ–ค THE TIMING MAKES THIS ONE PARTICULARLY RAW

Thereโ€™s also an emotional reality behind Kellyโ€™s reaction.

Ozzy died on 22 July 2025, aged 76, just weeks after making his final appearance at the enormous Back To The Beginning concert at Villa Park in Birmingham.

The event reunited the original Black Sabbath line-up and brought together generations of rock and metal musicians to celebrate the man and the music that helped shape the genre.

Kelly has spoken openly about the enormous grief she continues to experience following her fatherโ€™s death.

On the first anniversary of his passing, she described living without him as the hardest thing she had ever endured.

So while fans can debate Sniderโ€™s underlying argument until the Greggs sausage rolls go cold, itโ€™s also understandable why Kelly reacted so fiercely to someone publicly questioning her dadโ€™s contribution after his death.

To Kelly, this isnโ€™t simply Ozzy Osbourne: Heavy Metal Legendโ„ข.

Itโ€™s her dad.

๐Ÿค˜ AND DEE SNIDER HAS HIS OWN PLACE IN ROCK HISTORY

Itโ€™s worth saying something else here too.

Whatever anyone thinks about his comments, dismissing Dee Sniderโ€™s entire contribution to rock would be unfair.

Twisted Sister became one of the defining bands of โ€˜80s hard rock, with โ€œWeโ€™re Not Gonna Take Itโ€ and โ€œI Wanna Rockโ€ becoming genuine rock anthems.

Snider also famously stood before the US Senate during the PMRC hearings in 1985, defending musicians against censorship proposals and challenging assumptions being made about rock and metal lyrics.

That moment alone earned him a significant place in rock history.

So this isnโ€™t some random bloke on Facebook arguing after six cans of Stella.

Itโ€™s one veteran figure from heavy metal history questioning another giantโ€™s creative legacy โ€” followed by that giantโ€™s daughter coming flying over the barricade.

Which is exactly why the story has exploded.

โšก THE RIFF REPORT VERDICT

Can people discuss songwriting credits and the contributions of musicians around Ozzy?

Of course.

Rock history shouldnโ€™t become untouchable mythology.

Bob Daisley deserves recognition.

Geezer Butler deserves recognition.

Randy Rhoads deserves recognition.

Tony Iommi deserves recognition.

Every musician who helped create those records deserves their flowers.

But recognising their contributions doesnโ€™t require reducing Ozzyโ€™s.

Because whatever percentage of lyrics, riffs or arrangements Ozzy personally wrote, thereโ€™s one thing nobody else could contribute.

Ozzy Osbourne himself.

The voice.

The personality.

The madness.

The vulnerability.

The charisma.

The bloke shouting โ€œSHARON!โ€

The man sitting on a throne at Villa Park surrounded by generations of musicians whose careers might never have existed without the music he helped bring into the world.

You can debate songwriting credits forever.

But you canโ€™t rewrite cultural impact.

And Ozzyโ€™s impact on heavy metal?

Absolutely bloody enormous. ๐Ÿฆ‡๐Ÿค˜

As for Kelly Osbourne versus Dee Sniderโ€ฆ

We suspect the Christmas card list might be one name shorter this year. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ”ฅ

What do you reckon, butt? Was Dee Snider raising a legitimate point about Ozzyโ€™s collaborators, or was questioning his legacy after his death completely unnecessary?

Sound off โ€” respectfully โ€” because this debate could run longer than an extended Tony Iommi riff.

Proudly Welsh. Proudly Loud. ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿด
