🚨By The Riff Report 🏴🤘
When you think of a Saturday night up the Bwlch mountain, you might picture the calm Welsh valleys under moonlight — sheep grazing, wind turbines turning, and the silence of nature doing its thing. 🌙🐑
But last weekend, that peace was shattered. The mountain was hijacked by an illegal rave — hundreds of people blasting music through the night, leaving behind chaos, carnage, and heartbreak for the locals who call that land home.
This wasn’t “a bit of fun.” This was vandalism, environmental damage, and pure disrespect to the community.
💥 THE MORNING AFTER THE MAYHEM
By sunrise, the damage was clear.
- Injured livestock — terrified animals scattered across the hills.
- Stressed and traumatised sheep — left frightened and disoriented by flashing lights and pounding basslines.
- Broken gates and fences — secure farm entrances smashed open to gain access.
- Vans stuck in the mud — abandoned across the land like a scrapyard of shame.
- Rubbish everywhere — bottles, cans, shattered glass, and sharp metal fragments tossed across the fields.
- Wind turbines damaged — adding thousands in repair costs.
And who had to pick up the pieces? Not the ravers. Not the organisers. But the family who live there — a husband, his son, and even their 75-year-old father — out there clearing up the mess, towing vehicles out of ditches, and trying to make their land safe again. 💔
💷 THE REAL COST OF “JUST A BIT OF FUN”
The farm has been left facing thousands of pounds worth of damage.
For a small family business already battling rising feed prices, unpredictable weather, and the cost-of-living crisis, that’s a heavy blow.
This wasn’t some abandoned quarry or derelict car park — it’s a working mountain farm. Every broken gate and panicked animal has a human consequence.
And for those saying, “there was no trouble” — try explaining that to the farmers cleaning up shards of glass before their animals cut their hooves open.
🏞️ THE BWLCH ISN’T A FESTIVAL SITE — IT’S A WAY OF LIFE
The Bwlch mountain, which stretches between the Rhondda and Afan Valleys, is a breathtaking part of Wales. It’s also private land — working farmland, with livestock and local families who’ve cared for it for generations.
It’s not Glastonbury. It’s not a free-for-all rave zone. It’s someone’s workplace, someone’s history, someone’s home.
What makes this sting even more is the hypocrisy — so many of those who turn up to these raves claim to “love nature” and “live free.” Yet they leave behind rubbish, broken glass, and injured animals. That’s not freedom — that’s selfishness.
🧹 CLEAN-UP CREW: THE UNSUNG HEROES
While the ravers slept off their hangovers, the local farmers got to work.
Armed with gloves, bin bags, and sheer grit, they cleaned up other people’s mess.
The son spent the day towing out stuck vans. His 75-year-old father — yes, seventy-five — picked up broken bottles and litter from the fields.
That’s what real community looks like. Not people turning up for one night and leaving chaos behind, but those who stay, repair, and protect.
🐑 THE IMPACT ON LIVESTOCK
Sheep and livestock aren’t built for bass drops. Loud music, flashing lights, and crowds can cause panic — animals run into fences, get injured, miscarry, or worse.
Farmers have spent months raising these animals, only to see them injured or traumatised by one night of careless behaviour.
This isn’t “victimless fun.” It’s real harm — to animals, to people, and to the land itself.
🌍 “IT’S JUST A BIT OF FUN” — NO, IT’S NOT.
Let’s call it what it is:
🚫 Trespass
🚫 Vandalism
🚫 Animal cruelty
🚫 Environmental damage
If you want to party, there are plenty of legal venues and licensed events in Wales. Support the local scene — don’t destroy it.
🗣️ A MESSAGE FROM THE FARMERS
“For those who attended and said, ‘It’s just a bit of fun,’ or ‘There was no trouble,’ we beg to differ. The damage, the stress to our animals, and the cost to our family say otherwise.”
You can hear the heartbreak behind those words. This wasn’t just noise on a mountain — it was an invasion of their home.
🏴 WALES DESERVES BETTER
Only in Wales, mun, would you find a community still out there smiling, tidying up after chaos, and making sure the land recovers. But this should never have happened in the first place.
The Bwlch is one of our crown jewels — it deserves respect, not rubbish.
If you’re reading this and you love the Welsh outdoors, remember: leave no trace. Respect the land. Respect the farmers. Respect the animals.
Because once the music stops, someone always has to clean up the mess — and it’s never the ones who caused it.
💬 FINAL WORD FROM THE R.I.F.F. CREW
We’re not against live music or having a good time — far from it! But there’s a time and a place for it. The Welsh hills aren’t your festival ground.
If you want to dance till dawn, do it legally, safely, and without costing hardworking families thousands.
Respect the land, or don’t set foot on it.
Tidy up your act, mun. 🏴💪🤘
