French metal titans GOJIRA have announced a special intimate concert with tickets priced at just $30 — giving a lucky group of fans the chance to experience one of modern metal’s most powerful live bands without needing to remortgage the bloody house.

Thirty dollars.

For GOJIRA.

In a small venue.

Yeah, those tickets aren’t going to hang around, are they?

At a time when major concert prices can make checking your bank balance feel like opening a medical test result, GOJIRA have gone firmly in the opposite direction with an intimate show carrying a wonderfully old-school $30 ticket price.

And considering the French heavyweights are now perfectly comfortable destroying enormous festival stages and stadium crowds, seeing them packed into a smaller room sounds absolutely ridiculous.

In the best possible way.

🤘 GOJIRA In A Small Venue Is A Dangerous Proposition

Some bands need huge production to create atmosphere.

GOJIRA really don’t.

Give Joe Duplantier, Mario Duplantier, Christian Andreu and Jean-Michel Labadie a stage, some amplifiers and enough electricity to keep Mario’s drum kit functioning and you’re basically sorted.

The thought of songs like Backbone, Stranded, Silvera and The Heaviest Matter Of The Universe exploding inside an intimate room is enough to make your neck hurt pre-emptively.

Then there’s Flying Whales.

If the crowd doesn’t collectively lose its mind when that riff eventually lands, somebody needs to check everyone’s pulse.

💰 $30 Tickets? In This Economy?

The ticket price might be nearly as surprising as the gig itself.

$30 to see a band of GOJIRA’s stature feels almost like somebody has accidentally loaded an old ticketing website from 2007.

Concert costs have become one of the biggest talking points across live music in recent years, with fans increasingly having to factor in ticket fees, transport, accommodation, food and merchandise before they’ve even reached the venue.

So a genuinely affordable ticket for an internationally established metal band?

We’ll take that all day long.

Of course, the flip side is obvious.

Affordable ticket.

Small venue.

Massive band.

Absolute ticket bloodbath incoming.

🌍 GOJIRA Aren’t Exactly A Club Band Anymore

What makes this announcement particularly tasty is just how far GOJIRA have travelled.

The band began life in France during the 1990s and gradually built their reputation through relentless touring and increasingly ambitious records.

Albums including From Mars To Sirius, The Way Of All Flesh, L’Enfant Sauvage, Magma and Fortitude transformed them from extreme-metal favourites into one of the biggest heavy bands of their generation.

They’ve toured with enormous acts.

They’ve commanded festival stages.

They’ve played stadiums.

And then there was a certain performance in Paris.

🔥 That Olympic Performance Changed Everything

GOJIRA’s appearance during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games opening ceremony introduced them to an audience far beyond the traditional metal world.

Performing “Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça ira!)” alongside opera singer Marina Viotti while flames erupted from the Conciergerie was one of the most gloriously metal things ever allowed anywhere near an Olympic ceremony.

Millions of viewers suddenly found themselves watching a French metal band blasting away from the side of a historic building.

Normal Olympics behaviour, obviously.

The performance subsequently earned GOJIRA a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance, adding another enormous achievement to an already remarkable career.

And now some fans get to see that same band from potentially a few metres away.

Bonkers.

🥁 Mario Duplantier In A Small Room Should Require Planning Permission

We need to discuss Mario Duplantier.

Because anybody who has witnessed him play live knows he’s not so much a drummer as a controlled demolition specialist who happens to own cymbals.

Watching Mario from the back of an arena is impressive enough.

Watching him from close range?

Different experience entirely.

Every fill looks like violence.

Every double-kick section sounds like industrial machinery falling down several flights of stairs.

And somehow the bloke makes all of it look frighteningly effortless.

For drum nerds lucky enough to get into this intimate show, the view alone could be worth the $30.

🎸 The Perfect Band For A Stripped-Back Gig

GOJIRA have grown enormously without ever becoming dependent on spectacle.

Yes, their larger performances can include massive visuals, lighting and production.

But underneath everything is still a brutally tight four-piece.

That makes them ideally suited to smaller rooms.

There’s nowhere for the sound to escape.

Every riff hits harder.

Every drum strike feels closer.

The crowd becomes part of the performance rather than something stretching endlessly towards the back of a stadium.

And when Joe asks for a circle pit?

Best of luck.

🐋 Imagine ‘Flying Whales’ From Five Rows Back

There are certain GOJIRA songs designed for communal metal insanity.

Backbone practically demands movement.

Stranded has become an enormous live anthem.

Silvera hits like concrete.

Amazonia brings that unmistakable rhythmic pulse.

The Gift Of Guilt can turn an enormous festival crowd into something strangely emotional.

And Flying Whales remains…

Well…

Flying bloody Whales.

Hearing that material in an intimate environment could be something genuinely special.

🖤 A Reminder Of Where Heavy Music Lives

There’s something refreshing about a major metal band occasionally heading back into smaller surroundings.

Arenas are spectacular.

Festivals are brilliant.

Stadiums can create unforgettable moments.

But clubs and intimate venues are where heavy music developed.

Sweaty rooms.

Low ceilings.

Tiny stages.

Crowds packed together.

Amplifiers loud enough to rearrange fillings.

There’s an energy in those venues that even the fanciest stadium production can’t completely replicate.

GOJIRA understand that world because they came through it themselves.

🤘 THE RIFF REPORT VERDICT

This is exactly the sort of gig we love seeing announced.

One of the world’s biggest modern metal bands.

A considerably more intimate environment than fans normally get.

And tickets costing just $30.

The only bad news?

Getting one is probably going to require reaction speeds usually reserved for Olympic sprinters and people spotting the last sausage roll at a buffet.

Because GOJIRA fans know exactly how good this band is live.

Put them inside a smaller venue and suddenly the opportunity becomes irresistible.

If you manage to get through those doors, enjoy every second.

Get close.

Protect your neck.

And when the opening notes of Flying Whales begin…

Prepare for the room to completely lose its bloody mind.

GOJIRA. Small venue. $30 tickets. Absolute carnage. 🐋🔥🤘

Michael

Michael

🎸 About Michael Michael is the founder, editor and chief riff wrangler of The Riff Report, an independent Welsh rock, metal and alternative music publication built by fans, for fans. A lifelong rock and metal fan, Michael has spent years immersed in the music, culture and community that surround the heavier side of life. From discovering new bands and digging through classic albums to standing in muddy festival fields, squeezing into packed venues and spending far too much time near the front of a stage, music has always been much more than background noise — it is a massive part of who he is. That passion eventually became The Riff Report, a publication created to celebrate the bands, artists, venues, festivals, photographers, promoters and fans who keep the rock and metal world turning. Michael spends much of the year covering gigs, festivals, tours, album releases, new singles, interviews and music news, with a camera never too far away and a press pass usually hanging somewhere around his neck. Whether it is a huge arena show, a major outdoor festival or a tiny grassroots venue packed with people discovering their new favourite band, he believes every part of the scene has stories worth telling. For Michael, one of the biggest joys of music journalism is being able to shine a light on artists at every level. The Riff Report is just as interested in the hungry independent band playing to 50 people as it is in the global act headlining to 50,000. Supporting unsigned, independent and grassroots musicians is a huge part of the publication’s identity, because every legendary band started somewhere. Sometimes the next big thing is not on a massive billboard or a major-label playlist — sometimes they are crammed onto a tiny stage in a pub, plugging in their own gear and hoping somebody in the room remembers their name. Michael wants The Riff Report to be one of the places that remembers.
