When it comes to flagship smartphones in 2026, two names are battling it out for the Android crown โ€“ the OPPO Find X9 Ultra and the Xiaomi 17 Ultra.

Both phones are absolute monsters. Both boast cutting-edge cameras, stunning displays, flagship performance and batteries thatโ€™ll keep you going through a full day at a festival. But which one comes out on top?

The Riff Report has stepped into the mosh pit of mobile technology to see which handset deserves the loudest applause.

๐Ÿ“ธ Camera Battle

Letโ€™s be honestโ€ฆ this is the reason most people buy an Ultra phone.

๐Ÿ“ท OPPO Find X9 Ultra

OPPO has gone all-in with its Hasselblad partnership once again, delivering what many are calling one of the greatest zoom camera systems ever fitted to a smartphone.

Highlights include:

โœ… Massive main sensor

โœ… Dual periscope zoom lenses

โœ… Incredible detail at long distances

โœ… Fantastic macro photography

โœ… 4K 120fps video recording

Whether youโ€™re photographing wildlife, your dog running across the beach or trying to zoom in on your favourite guitarist from halfway back at Download Festival, the Find X9 Ultra is seriously impressive.

๐Ÿ“ท Xiaomi 17 Ultra

Xiaomi has continued working with Leica, and the results are spectacular.

Photos have that premium โ€œreal cameraโ€ look straight out of the phone, with rich colours, excellent dynamic range and some of the best low-light performance available today.

Rather than relying on heavy processing, the Xiaomi often produces images that look more natural and professional.

For everyday photography, it might just have the edge.

๐Ÿฅ‡ Xiaomi 17 Ultra

๐Ÿ”‹ Battery Life

Nobody wants their phone dying halfway through a headline set.

The OPPO packs an enormous 7,050mAh battery, making it one of the longest-lasting flagship phones currently available.

The Xiaomi isnโ€™t exactly weak either, with a huge 6,800mAh battery, but OPPO squeezes out those extra few hours that can make all the difference during a weekend festival.

Imagine thisโ€ฆ

Youโ€™re at Steelhouse.

Youโ€™ve taken 600 photos.

Recorded ten videos.

Posted on Instagram.

Checked Clashfinder twenty times.

Used Google Maps to find your tent after one too many ciders.

The OPPO will probably still be laughing.

๐Ÿฅ‡ Winner: OPPO Find X9 Ultra

โšก Performance

Thankfully thereโ€™s almost nothing between these two.

Both are powered by Qualcommโ€™s latest Snapdragon flagship processor.

That means:

๐ŸŽฎ Console-quality gaming

๐Ÿ“น 4K video editing

๐Ÿ“ฑ Instant app loading

๐Ÿค– AI features everywhere

๐Ÿ“ธ Lightning-fast image processing

Unless youโ€™re benchmarking phones for fun, youโ€™d struggle to tell them apart.

๐Ÿค Winner: Draw

๐Ÿ“บ Display

Both displays are absolutely gorgeous.

The OPPO features a razor-sharp QHD+ OLED display with an ultra-smooth 144Hz refresh rate.

The Xiaomi counters with an incredibly bright AMOLED panel that makes HDR videos and photos look stunning.

Watching YouTube, Netflix or live concert footage is fantastic on both devices.

The OPPO just sneaks ahead thanks to its sharper resolution and smoother refresh rate.

๐Ÿฅ‡ Winner: OPPO

๐Ÿ“ฑ Software Experience

This is where opinions start to split.

OPPO ColorOS

โœ” Smooth

โœ” Fast

โœ” Clean animations

โœ” Excellent multitasking

Many users feel ColorOS has become one of Androidโ€™s most polished operating systems.

Xiaomi HyperOS

โœ” Highly customisable

โœ” Packed with AI tools

โœ” Great ecosystem integration

โœ” Fantastic if you already own Xiaomi devices

If youโ€™ve got Xiaomi tablets, watches or smart home gadgets, HyperOS ties everything together beautifully.

Call this one personal preference.

๐Ÿค Winner: Tie

๐ŸŽธ Which Phone Is Better for Festival Fans?

Since weโ€™re The Riff Report, letโ€™s judge them where it really mattersโ€ฆ

๐ŸŽช OPPO Find X9 Ultra

Perfect for:

โœ… Download Festival

โœ… Bloodstock

โœ… Steelhouse

โœ… Planet Rockstock

Why?

Because youโ€™ll appreciate:

๐Ÿ”‹ Massive battery life

๐Ÿ”ญ Incredible zoom for photographing bands from the back

๐Ÿ“น Amazing concert videos

๐ŸŒง IP69 water resistance when the British weather inevitably turns.

๐ŸŽช Xiaomi 17 Ultra

Perfect for:

๐Ÿ“ธ Instagram creators

๐Ÿ“ท Travel photography

๐ŸŒ„ Landscapes

๐ŸŒƒ Night photography

๐ŸŽฅ Everyday content creators

If your phone doubles as your main camera, the Xiaomi is incredibly difficult to beat.

๐Ÿ’ฐ Which One Should You Buy?

Buy the OPPO Find X9 Ultra if you wantโ€ฆ

โœ… The best battery life

โœ… Incredible zoom photography

โœ… Outstanding video recording

โœ… A phone thatโ€™ll comfortably survive a long festival weekend.

Buy the Xiaomi 17 Ultra if you wantโ€ฆ

โœ… Stunning everyday photography

โœ… Leica image quality

โœ… Beautiful colour science

โœ… A premium camera experience in your pocket.

๐Ÿค˜ The Riff Report Verdict

This is one of the closest smartphone battles weโ€™ve seen in years.

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra just edges ahead if your number one priority is taking breathtaking photographs every single day. Its Leica-tuned cameras produce images with fantastic detail, natural colours and a professional feel thatโ€™s hard to fault.

Butโ€ฆ and itโ€™s a big butโ€ฆ

If youโ€™re the kind of person who spends their summers in muddy fields, chasing bands from stage to stage, surviving three-day festivals and trying to snap your favourite guitarist from halfway across the arena, the OPPO Find X9 Ultra starts looking like the smarter choice.

That mammoth battery, incredible dual periscope zoom system and superb video capabilities make it a brilliant companion for live music fans.

๐Ÿ† Final Scores

๐Ÿฅ‡ Best Camera: Xiaomi 17 Ultra โญโญโญโญโญ

๐Ÿฅ‡ Best Zoom: OPPO Find X9 Ultra โญโญโญโญโญ

๐Ÿฅ‡ Best Battery: OPPO Find X9 Ultra โญโญโญโญโญ

๐Ÿฅ‡ Best Display: OPPO Find X9 Ultra โญโญโญโญโญ

๐Ÿฅ‡ Best Software: Draw ๐Ÿค

๐Ÿฅ‡ Best Festival Phone: ๐ŸŽธ OPPO Find X9 Ultra

Would we be happy with either? Absolutely. Theyโ€™re both phenomenal flagship phones that push Android to its limits. But if we had to pack just one into our backpack before heading off to the next rock festivalโ€ฆ weโ€™d probably reach for the OPPO Find X9 Ultra.

Now over to you, butt! ๐Ÿค˜ Which flagship would you choose โ€“ the camera-focused Xiaomi 17 Ultra, or the festival-ready OPPO Find X9 Ultra? Let us know in the comments and join the debate! ๐ŸŽธ๐Ÿ“ฑ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Michael

๐ŸŽธ About Michael Michael is the founder, editor and chief riff wrangler of The Riff Report, an independent Welsh rock, metal and alternative music publication built by fans, for fans. A lifelong rock and metal fan, Michael has spent years immersed in the music, culture and community that surround the heavier side of life. From discovering new bands and digging through classic albums to standing in muddy festival fields, squeezing into packed venues and spending far too much time near the front of a stage, music has always been much more than background noise โ€” it is a massive part of who he is. That passion eventually became The Riff Report, a publication created to celebrate the bands, artists, venues, festivals, photographers, promoters and fans who keep the rock and metal world turning. Michael spends much of the year covering gigs, festivals, tours, album releases, new singles, interviews and music news, with a camera never too far away and a press pass usually hanging somewhere around his neck. Whether it is a huge arena show, a major outdoor festival or a tiny grassroots venue packed with people discovering their new favourite band, he believes every part of the scene has stories worth telling. For Michael, one of the biggest joys of music journalism is being able to shine a light on artists at every level. The Riff Report is just as interested in the hungry independent band playing to 50 people as it is in the global act headlining to 50,000. Supporting unsigned, independent and grassroots musicians is a huge part of the publicationโ€™s identity, because every legendary band started somewhere. Sometimes the next big thing is not on a massive billboard or a major-label playlist โ€” sometimes they are crammed onto a tiny stage in a pub, plugging in their own gear and hoping somebody in the room remembers their name. Michael wants The Riff Report to be one of the places that remembers.
