Just when you thought the world of rock memorabilia couldn’t get any more unhinged, along comes a listing that makes signed guitars, rare vinyl and backstage passes look positively sensible.
An online seller has listed what appears to be a crumpled Buxton water bottle, allegedly connected to My Chemical Romance, for the absolutely bonkers price of £30,000.
Yes, you read that correctly.
Not £30.
Not £300.
Thirty grand. For a plastic bottle.
And no, it doesn’t appear to come with Gerard Way personally turning up at your house to sing Welcome to the Black Parade in the kitchen.
🖤 A Bottle Worth More Than Some Cars
The listing describes the item simply as:
“Water bottle from My Chemical Romance”
That’s it.
No dramatic backstory. No certificate of authenticity visible in the listing. No explanation of who drank from it, when it was used or whether it was launched into a crowd during a particularly emotional encore.
Just one battered bottle, one famous band name and one price tag capable of sending your bank account straight into the mosh pit.
The total cost shown with buyer protection rises to £30,075, because apparently once you’ve spent the price of a small house deposit on bottled water, another £75 is barely worth mentioning.
🎸 Rock Fans Love a Keepsake
To be fair, music fans have always treasured unusual pieces of memorabilia.
A setlist grabbed from the stage can become a prized possession. A guitar pick caught after a gig can sit proudly in a frame. Drumsticks, signed posters, backstage passes and limited-edition vinyl can all carry serious emotional and financial value.
That’s part of the magic of live music.
These objects become reminders of a night, a band and a moment that meant something.
But even by collector standards, this one feels like the merch table has taken a wrong turn and ended up in a fever dream.
🤔 Is It Actually Genuine?
That’s the big question.
The listing may claim that the bottle came from My Chemical Romance, but claims and proof are two very different things.
For an item like this to have genuine collector value, buyers would normally want some form of provenance. That could include a photograph showing the bottle being used, confirmation from a crew member, documentation from an auction house or some other credible evidence linking it directly to the band.
Without that, it could simply be a very expensive bottle of Buxton that once lived in someone’s recycling bin.
At £30,000, “trust me, mun” probably isn’t quite enough.
😂 The Internet Has Entered the Chat
Unsurprisingly, the listing has caused plenty of amusement online.
Fans have joked about raiding venue floors after gigs, checking backstage bins and collecting every abandoned cup they can find.
That empty pint glass near the barrier?
Potential retirement fund.
That crushed can of energy drink beside the tour bus?
Future family heirloom.
That Greggs wrapper someone left outside the venue?
Get it framed immediately, butt. It might have brushed against a bassist.
💸 What Else Could £30,000 Buy?
Instead of buying one slightly battered bottle, £30,000 could get you a frankly ridiculous amount of rock ’n’ roll joy.
You could fund years of gigs, festivals, travel, hotels and merch.
You could buy a serious guitar collection.
You could support dozens of independent bands.
You could hire a van, start your own tour and still have enough left for several emergency service-station sausage rolls.
Or you could buy the bottle.
Your money, your chaos.
🤘 The Riff Report Verdict
We absolutely understand the emotional pull of music memorabilia.
Owning something linked to your favourite artist can be incredibly special, especially when it connects you to a gig or moment you’ll never forget.
But £30,000 for a plastic water bottle feels less like collecting and more like your debit card crying for help.
Unless the bottle contains the secret formula that reunited the band, writes hit albums and guarantees front-row tickets for life, we’ll probably give this one a miss.
Still, fair play to the seller for aiming high.
Some people see rubbish.
Others see rock history.
And apparently, someone sees thirty grand.
💬 Would You Buy It?
Would you ever spend serious money on an unusual piece of band memorabilia?
Is this a priceless My Chemical Romance artefact, a hilarious joke listing or simply the most ambitious bit of recycling Britain has ever seen?
Let us know, mun. 🤘🖤💧
Proudly Welsh. Proudly Loud. Zero Apologies.
