Who said shredding is a boys-only club? These six-string queens have blown amps, melted faces, and proved that rock ‘n’ roll knows no gender. Whether they’re riffing through punk anthems or unleashing solos that would make Hendrix weep, these women didn’t just join the boys’ club—they bulldozed the bloody door down and set it on fire. Let’s raise a pint (or a flying V) to the loudest ladies in the game. 🎤💅
🥇 1. Lita Ford (The Runaways / Solo)
Style: Glam Metal, Hard Rock
Signature Weapon: BC Rich Bitch
A blonde bombshell with a Marshall stack behind her and a don’t-mess-with-me attitude. Lita Ford tore through the ’80s with high-octane solos, catchy choruses, and a voice as fierce as her fretwork. “Kiss Me Deadly”? More like shred me deadly, mun! 💋⚡
🥈 2. Joan Jett (Joan Jett & The Blackhearts / The Runaways)
Style: Punk Rock, Garage Rock
Signature Weapon: Gibson Melody Maker
She doesn’t give a damn ’bout her reputation—and neither do we. Joan Jett made punk palatable and rock radio-ready. Not the flashiest guitarist on this list, but her raw power, songwriting chops, and chunky riffs changed the game. What’s occurring? Icon status, butt. 🎸🔥
🥉 3. Jennifer Batten (Solo / Michael Jackson / Jeff Beck)
Style: Shred, Fusion, Rock
Signature Weapon: Washburn and Ibanez guitars
You ever try to play Van Halen–level solos onstage with Michael Jackson while looking like a cyberpunk goddess? Jennifer Batten did, and she nailed it. Proper job. 🧠⚡
4. Nancy Wilson (Heart)
Style: Classic Rock, Folk Rock
Signature Weapon: Gibson SG, Martin acoustics
If you’ve ever played the acoustic intro to “Crazy on You,” you owe Nancy Wilson your pick hand. She’s the queen of melody, dynamics, and making Led Zep-style riffs sound lush. Heart? More like axe-wielding Cupid. 💘🎶
5. Orianthi (Solo / Alice Cooper / Michael Jackson)
Style: Hard Rock, Pop Rock
Signature Weapon: PRS Custom 24
Orianthi was literally handpicked by the King of Pop to shred on his comeback tour. She’s got bluesy roots, metal technique, and glam-rock confidence. Oh, and she makes it look way too easy. Tidy! 🤯🎸
6. St. Vincent (Annie Clark)
Style: Art Rock, Experimental
Signature Weapon: Her own signature Ernie Ball Music Man guitar
Angular riffs, otherworldly tones, and guitar faces that could scare off demons. Annie Clark makes you question what a guitar should sound like—and that’s the whole point. Weird? Yep. Brilliant? 100%. 🧜♀️🎛️
7. Susan Tedeschi (Tedeschi Trucks Band)
Style: Blues Rock, Southern Rock
Signature Weapon: Fender Telecaster
She’s got the soul of Bonnie Raitt, the chops of Clapton, and the tone of someone who’s made a deal with the bluesy devil. She’ll break your heart with a bend and build it back with a solo. Lush. 🎶💔
8. Poison Ivy (The Cramps)
Style: Psychobilly, Punk
Signature Weapon: Gretsch guitars
Creepy, kooky, and cooler than a coffin on ice. Ivy defined the Cramps’ sinister surf-punk sound. Every riff sounds like it was ripped from a haunted house. Halloween queen with tremolo claws. 🎃🦇
9. Donita Sparks (L7)
Style: Grunge, Punk Rock
Signature Weapon: Gibson Les Paul
Want distortion, destruction, and full-frontal feminism? Donita’s got you. Her playing is nasty, noisy, and oh-so-satisfying. Remember when she threw a tampon into the crowd? Yeah. Icon. 😈💥
10. Nita Strauss (Alice Cooper / Demi Lovato / Solo)
Style: Metal, Shred
Signature Weapon: Ibanez JIVA
Nita Strauss plays like she’s trying to summon gods from the underworld. Whether she’s with Alice Cooper or shredding solo, she’s technical, tight, and terrifying—in the best way. Slayer meets ballet. 🔥🎶
11. Kristen Pfaff (Hole)
Style: Alternative Rock, Grunge
Signature Weapon: Fender Jazz Bass (but don’t let that fool you, she played guitar too)
Underrated, overlooked, and gone far too soon. Her guitar and bass work in Hole added structure to Courtney Love’s chaos. A punk poet with precision. RIP ❤️
12. Michelle Zauner (Japanese Breakfast)
Style: Dream Pop, Indie Rock
Signature Weapon: Fender Stratocaster
Wait, dreamy riffs on a “Best Rock Guitarists” list? YES, MUN. Michelle’s textured, emotional guitar playing hits you right in the feels while still kicking with indie swagger. 🌙✨
13. Lindsay Ell
Style: Country Rock, Blues
Signature Weapon: Fender Telecaster
Don’t let the Nashville vibe fool you. Lindsay can play circles around most modern rockers. Her technique, phrasing, and showmanship are next-level. Slide into those solos, girl. 🤠🎸
14. Julien Baker (boygenius / Solo)
Style: Emo, Indie Rock
Signature Weapon: Fender Telecaster
Julien’s emotional dynamics and loop-heavy guitar work build cathedrals out of heartbreak. She might not shred, but she makes you feel. That’s real power. 😭🙏
15. JinJoo Lee (DNCE / Session Musician)
Style: Pop Rock, Funk Rock
Signature Weapon: Fender Strat
The unsung shredder of pop rock, JinJoo is a session killer with attitude and flair. Her riffs are slick, stylish, and full of swagger. Funky fretboard fire. 💅🎉

🕶️ Final Thoughts From The Mosh Pit
This ain’t just about technique—it’s about tone, style, vibes, and attitude. These legends didn’t wait for permission to rock. They picked up a guitar, cranked the volume, and told the world: “This is MY stage now.”
Whether they made you cry, riot, or jump around like a maniac in a muddy field in Wales… they’ve earned their spot in The Riff Report hall of axe-wielding fame. 🏴🔥
YESS MUN. LONG LIVE THE RIFF QUEENS! 👑🎸
