So let’s light a few candles (and maybe some pyros), raise a pint, and give a devil-horn salute to the rock and metal royalty born this glorious month!
🎂 AUGUST’S MOST RIFF-TASTIC ROCK & METAL BIRTHDAYS 🤘🔥
🎤 August 1 – Joe Elliott (Def Leppard)
Born 1959 – Glam rock legend, Sheffield’s finest, and a man who’s still pouring sugar on everything. Voice like velvet soaked in diesel. 🎙️🎉
⚡ August 4 – Ian Broudie (The Lightning Seeds)
Born 1958 – Okay, more pop than metal, but come on… Three Lions gets a circle pit going at any British barbecue. 🦁🦁🦁
🥁 August 5 – Adam Yauch (MCA) (Beastie Boys)
Born 1964 – Gone too soon, but Sabotage is still one of the heaviest tracks ever dropped. That bassline is pure anarchy. 🎤💥
🦇 August 6 – Elliot Smith
Born 1969 – Not heavy in sound, but emotionally? This man crushed hearts with a whisper. Emo before emo was even a thing.
🎸 August 7 – Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden)
Born 1958 – Pilot. Fencer. Cancer survivor. And, oh yeah — one of the greatest metal vocalists of all time. SCREAM FOR ME AUGUST!! 🛫🎤⚔️
🔥 August 8 – The Edge (U2)
Born 1961 – Delay pedal deity. Might not be “metal” but has inspired more guitarists than caffeine and heartbreak combined.
👑 August 9 – Jack Fowler (Sleeping With Sirens)
Born 1991 – The emo shredding heartthrob with riffs that make teens cry and mosh at the same time.
🖤 August 10 – Michael Bivins (Bell Biv DeVoe / New Edition)
Born 1968 – Funky crossover genius. Not metal, but you know he’d kill it in a synth-metal band.
🧨 August 11 – Charlie Sexton
Born 1968 – Played with Bob Dylan, produced for Lucinda Williams, and shreds like his Strat is on fire. Criminally underrated.
🧛♂️ August 13 – Danny Bonaduce (The Partridge Family)
Born 1959 – Child star turned radio madman. Maybe not metal… but chaos? Absolutely. Certified wildcard.
🎙️ August 14 – David Crosby (Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young)
Born 1941 – Psychedelic folk pioneer with a moustache that could hypnotise wildlife. RIP to the harmony king.
🥁 August 15 – Tommy Aldridge (Ozzy Osbourne / Whitesnake)
Born 1950 – The drum monster behind some of metal’s greatest beats. Still smashing kits like they owe him money. 🥁🔥
💥 August 17 – Sib Hashian (Boston)
Born 1949 – The afro. The drums. The More Than a Feeling. Passed away on stage. That’s a rock ‘n’ roll exit if there ever was one. 🖤
🦁 August 18 – Everlast (House of Pain)
Born 1969 – Jump around. Enough said. Also, his solo work goes hard in a bluesy, gritty, punch-you-in-the-gut way.
🌌 August 19 – John Deacon (Queen)
Born 1951 – The quiet one, but his basslines speak LOUD. Another One Bites the Dust? Pure filth. 💣
🦇 August 20 – Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin)
Born 1948 – The Golden God himself. The blueprint for all frontmen. Still got the moves, the curls, and the VOICE. 🧙♂️🎤
🎸 August 22 – Vernon Reid (Living Colour)
Born 1958 – Shred king. Genre fusion wizard. Made funk-metal cool and carved out space for guitarists of colour in rock. RESPECT.
👅 August 25 – Gene Simmons (KISS)
Born 1949 – The Demon. The Tongue. The Merch Machine. Love him or loathe him, you can’t deny — Gene put face paint on the mainstream. 💄🤑
🎉 August 26 – Shirley Manson (Garbage)
Born 1966 – Queen of grunge-glam-goth-alt-rock. Scottish sass with a punk heart and a voice like velvet wrapped in barbed wire. 🖤🎤
💿 August 28 – Florence Welch (Florence + The Machine)
Born 1986 – Floaty, mystical, a banshee in Doc Martens. Not metal, but you know Ghost fans would worship her in a cathedral.
🧙♂️ August 29 – Liam Payne (One Direction)
Born 1993 – Hear us out: give him a Gibson SG and 6 months with Dave Grohl — the man could evolve.
🐍 August 30 – Micky Moody (Whitesnake)
Born 1950 – Slide guitar god. Bluesy as hell. Played like his strings were soaked in whisky and heartbreak.
🍻 August 31 – Debbie Peterson (The Bangles)
