(A.K.A. The Day Metal History Rewrote Itself… Again)
What. A. Day. ๐ค From the first thundering riff to the final, tear-stained โSabbath Bloody Sabbath,โ the Back to the Beginning concert wasnโt just historic โ it was completely unhinged in the best possible way. Villa Park turned into a cathedral of chaos, and if you blinked, you mightโve missed something that made rock history.
Here are 8 things that genuinely happened that we still canโt quite believe. Strap in, butt โ this oneโs madder than a sheep on speed. ๐โก
1. Ozzy Sang Nine Songs โ Including Half of Blizzard of Ozz ๐ค
We were expecting a cameo. A wave. Maybe a croaky โI love you all.โ But Ozzy Osbourne came out swinging like it was 1981 again. The Prince of Darkness didnโt just bless us with Sabbath classics โ he cracked open his Blizzard of Ozz solo vault!
โCrazy Trainโ, โMr. Crowleyโ, โI Donโt Knowโ โ all belted out with surprising energy for a man who once snorted ants. Weโre still trying to process it. Was that real life? Or did we all share the same fever dream?
2. Nuno Bettencourt Played More Songs Than Anyone ๐ธ
Move over, Tony Iommi โ Nuno’s the MVP of the night. The Extreme guitarist didnโt just show up, he tore through half the damn setlist like a caffeinated Eddie Van Halen tribute act.
From Ozzy solo bangers to Sabbath deep cuts, the man was everywhere โ soloing, shredding, smiling like a kid let loose in a Les Paul showroom. Someone please check his fretboard for scorch marks. ๐ฅ
3. Steven Tyler Absolutely CRUSHED โ What Vocal Injury? ๐ฑ
Just weeks after whispers about damaged pipes, Aerosmithโs frontman stormed the stage looking like a psychedelic witch doctor and belted out Sabbath like he was auditioning to join the band.
Nobody expected it. Everyone lost their damn minds. Tylerโs cover of โFairies Wear Bootsโ was so good, even the security guards were moshing. What vocal issues? Get in the bin. ๐๏ธ
4. By the End of the Dayโฆ We Basically Heard All of Paranoid ๐ง โก
No joke โ track by track, Paranoid got a full-blown Frankensteinโs monster revival by the nightโs end.
Whether it was โIron Manโ covered by Halestorm, or โWar Pigsโ featuring a 10-person metal choir, by 11PM weโd basically experienced the whole bloody album โ reimagined, remixed, and ramped up to 11.
And yes, we absolutely loved it. Proper job.
5. Yungbludโs Surprise Addition = One of the Dayโs Best Covers ๐ค
Whatโs occurring? Well, Yungblud happened, and suddenly โShot in the Darkโ became a full-blown arena exorcism.
Nobody knew heโd be there, and yet there he was โ all eyeliner, chaos, and boundless energy โ leading the charge with Lzzy Hale, David Draiman, and more in a cover that made Ozzy grin like a goblin on Christmas morning.
Honestly, give him a full Ozzy tribute tour. Weโll buy the merch.
6. Opera Meets Metal โ Marina Viotti + Gojira Was a Fever Dream Come True ๐ค
When Marina Viotti โ legit opera superstar โ strutted onstage with Gojira, we thought weโd entered another dimension.
But holy hellโฆ she absolutely slayed. Their version of โMea Culpa (Ah! รa ira!)โ was haunting, visceral, and sent actual shivers through the crowd.
Even better? Later on, she was spotted headbanging in the pit like a champ. From stage to circle pit, Marina proved sheโs got range, baby.
7. Three Songs from Never Say Die! Were Played. THREE. ๐ฎ
This was a shocker โ that oft-forgotten, often-divisive final Sabbath LP before the Dio days? It got THREE tributes.
We heard:
- โJuniorโs Eyesโ
- โA Hard Roadโ
- And even โAir Danceโ, which we swear hasnโt been played live since 1978.
A bold move. A beautiful one. Even Ozzy looked stunned.
8. Actuallyโฆ All of It. And the Money Raised for Charity! ๐ค๐ฐ
Between the sets, tributes, speeches, and that surprise Sabbath supergroup finale, it was overwhelming. But the biggest mic drop?
Over ยฃ2 million raised for mental health charities, veterans groups, and the bloody Aston Villa Foundation.
It wasnโt just a metal celebration โ it was a show of love, community, and support. From the biggest names in rock to the smallest moments in the crowd โ this wasnโt just a concert, it was a movement.
BONUS THING WE STILL CANโT BELIEVE:
Jason Momoa moshed so hard he nearly took out a roadie during Pantera. Legend. ๐ค
In Conclusion?
Wait, we said no conclusions. Letโs just say:
๐ฌ If you werenโt there, you missed history. If you were, youโll be talking about it for the rest of your life.
And if this really is the end of Sabbath live showsโฆ they went out in the most Sabbath way imaginable: LOUD, LOONY, and LEGENDARY.
๐ถ๏ธ Cโmon then, whoโs doing the โBack To The Beginning โ The Sequelโ tour? ๐
