Alright butt, gather round – we’ve got tidy news that’ll make every rock fan in the backroads scream “YESS MUN!” Skindred, Newport’s finest ragga-metal madmen, have announced The Detour UK Tour, and instead of sticking to the usual arenas and big-city haunts, they’re venturing deep into the towns, clubs, and venues that don’t usually see the madness. 🍺💥
This isn’t just a tour – it’s a proper Skindred love letter to the fans who’ve kept them alive for over two decades. And diolch, it’s about time someone gave the smaller places their due. This is The Riff Report’s mega deep-dive into everything you need to know about this glorious detour: the towns, the tunes, the pits, and the absolute carnage that follows Skindred wherever they go. Buckle up, mun – it’s gonna be a wild ride. 🚐💨
🌍 WHY THE DETOUR MATTERS
Skindred have smashed festival main stages across the globe (Download, Bloodstock, Boomtown – you name it, they’ve owned it). They’ve played arenas, they’ve supported the likes of Metallica, and they’ve carried the flag for Welsh heavy music higher than the Brecon Beacons. 🏔️
But what makes The Detour special is that they’re deliberately avoiding the usual suspects: no Wembley, no Manchester AO Arena, no Birmingham Utilita. Instead, they’re hitting the places fans usually get ignored. Think sticky-floored rock clubs, small theatres, and community venues where the bouncers know your mam by name.
It’s intimate. It’s sweaty. It’s raw. And it’s exactly where Skindred thrive.
🎶 THE SETLIST – WHAT’S OCCURRING?
If you’ve ever seen Skindred live (and if you haven’t, where have you been, mun?!), you’ll know they’re masters of crafting a set that blends chaos with crowd control. Expect the following to feature:
- Nobody – the anthem that started it all back in the Babylon days.
- Kill the Power – for when the mosh pit needs that extra kick.
- That’s My Jam – guaranteed party starter.
- Big Tings – chunky riffs and Benji’s swagger on full display.
- Smile cuts – their latest album is packed with fresh fire, and you can bet “Our Religion” and “Gimme That Boom” will drop like bombs. 💣
- And of course… Warning – aka the “Newport Helicopter” moment that turns gigs into airborne chaos.
Setlist prediction? A perfect mix of fan favourites, deep cuts for the diehards, and some cheeky covers slipped in when Benji’s in the mood. (Last time we caught ‘em, he dropped a ragga-fied snippet of Jump Around and the crowd lost their heads).
🏘️ TOWN-BY-TOWN HYPE
Let’s break it down by the kinds of venues Skindred are hitting:
- Market Town Madness – Imagine Skindred rolling into a 500-cap venue in a sleepy English market town. One minute the high street’s dead, the next it’s crawling with metalheads and raggamuffin punks shouting “C’MON BUTT!” at passers-by.
- Seaside Chaos – Pubs by day, Skindred by night. Expect beaches filled with hungover fans the morning after, nursing pints and kebabs while still chanting “BIG TINGS, MUN!” 🌊
- Valleys Venues – Back in Wales, these shows are going to be emotional. Skindred repping Newport is like the rugby coming home. Expect tears, cheers, and helicopters galore.
- University Town Uproar – The students won’t know what hit ‘em. Cheap pints, rowdy pits, and Skindred converting fresh fans faster than you can say “Freshers’ Week carnage.”
The Detour is more than a tour – it’s a cultural reset for places that don’t usually see their heroes come through.
🤘 FAN EXPERIENCES – WHAT TO EXPECT
If you’re new to the Skindred live experience, let us paint you a picture:
- Benji Webbe’s Banter – One minute he’s dropping political truth bombs, the next he’s roasting a fan’s haircut. He’s as much a comedian as he is a frontman.
- The Sound – That mash-up of reggae grooves, metal riffs, punk attitude, and hip-hop swagger hits different in a small venue. You’ll feel the bass in your bones.
- The Crowd – No barriers between the band and the people. You’ll be sweating shoulder-to-shoulder with strangers who feel like family by the end of the night.
- The Newport Helicopter – If you’ve never swung your t-shirt over your head like a drunken rotor blade with 500 other maniacs, you’ve never truly lived. 🌀
🍻 PUBS, PINTS & POST-GIG CHAOS
The beauty of these smaller-town shows? Post-gig antics. In London, you disappear into the night. On The Detour, you’ll end up in the same pub as Benji, Mikey, Dan, and Arya, all sharing pints with the locals.
Only in Wales, mun, could you see your mate’s uncle try to explain darts to Skindred’s drummer at 1am after a show. Proper lush.
🏴 A WELSH PERSPECTIVE
As a Welsh band, Skindred have always worn their roots with pride. Benji reps Newport like it’s the centre of the universe (and after a few pints down The Potters, you’ll believe him).
The Detour feels like a celebration of that community spirit – taking the band out of the major machine and planting them right where they belong: with the fans.
It’s about connection. It’s about showing that rock ‘n’ roll isn’t just for the arenas – it’s for the valleys, the towns, the villages. As Benji might say, “We’re here for everyone, mun!”

🎤 FINAL THOUGHTS
Skindred’s Detour UK Tour isn’t just another set of gigs – it’s a movement. It’s about giving love to the overlooked towns, celebrating the true spirit of live music, and proving that you don’t need an arena to have the best night of your life.
So grab your tickets, grab your mates, and prepare for absolute carnage. And when Benji screams “NEWPORT HELICOPTER!”, don’t forget to spin that shirt like your life depends on it. 🌀
C’mon butt – this is one detour you don’t wanna miss.
