Welcome to the maddest ride in Britpop history, butt! This is the definitive timeline of Oasis โ€“ from their scrappy Mancunian beginnings to global domination, legendary gigs, infamous bust-ups, and that eternal question: Will the Gallaghers ever reunite? This is the long-form, pint-in-hand, sing-it-back saga of rock โ€˜nโ€™ rollโ€™s loudest family feud.

๐ŸŽ‰ 1991โ€“1993: BIRTH OF A BRITPOP BEHEMOTH

๐ŸŒ† The Manchester Backdrop

The early ’90s were buzzing in Manchester. The Stone Roses had swaggered in, Happy Mondays were grooving on ecstasy and ego, and Britpop was just a twinkle in the nation’s pint glass. Among all this noise, a little band named The Rain (later to become Oasis) was knocking about with dreams bigger than Liamโ€™s ego.

๐Ÿงฑ From The Rain to Oasis

The band โ€“ Liam Gallagher, Paul โ€œBoneheadโ€ Arthurs, Paul โ€œGuigsyโ€ McGuigan, and Tony McCarroll โ€“ were making a racket. Then big brother Noel Gallagher returned from a stint as a roadie with Inspiral Carpets. He saw something in Liamโ€™s sneer and swagger and offered them a deal: heโ€™d join, if he could write all the songs and lead the band. Spoiler: they said yes. And with that, Oasis was born.

๐Ÿšช King Tutโ€™s Wah Wah Hut โ€“ Destiny Calls

On May 31, 1993, Oasis famously bluffed their way onto the bill at King Tutโ€™s Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow. Alan McGee from Creation Records was in the crowd. He saw them. He signed them. Rock history changed forever.

โ€œThat was the gig. That was the moment. We were nobodies, and we left with a record deal.โ€ โ€“ Noel Gallagher

๐Ÿš€ 1994โ€“1996: WORLD DOMINATION AND KNEBWORTH CARNAGE

๐Ÿ’ฟ โ€˜Definitely Maybeโ€™ (1994): Pure Confidence on Wax

Oasis dropped their debut in August 1994. It was fast, loud, arrogant, and utterly irresistible. โ€œRock ‘n’ Roll Starโ€, โ€œLive Foreverโ€, โ€œSupersonicโ€ โ€“ the album was a sledgehammer to the face of grunge. It became the fastest-selling debut album in UK history.

๐ŸŒŸ Britpop Wars: Blur vs Oasis

By 1995, Oasis and Blur were going head-to-head on the charts and in the tabloids. The Battle of Britpop climaxed in August โ€˜95 when both bands released singles the same week. Blurโ€™s โ€œCountry Houseโ€ beat Oasisโ€™ โ€œRoll With Itโ€, but Oasis laughed last with Morning Glory outselling anything Blur would ever drop.

๐Ÿ’ฝ โ€˜(Whatโ€™s the Story) Morning Glory?โ€™ (1995)

This wasnโ€™t just an album โ€“ it was the defining sound of the ’90s. It gave us:

  • โ€œWonderwallโ€ (overplayed but still belted out in every pub karaoke)
  • โ€œDonโ€™t Look Back in Angerโ€ (still makes grown men cry)
  • โ€œChampagne Supernovaโ€ (long, lush, and Liam at his drawling best)

Over 22 million copies sold worldwide. The UK fell in love. America took notice. The Gallaghers were everywhere.

๐ŸŸ๏ธ The Gigs That Made Legends

  • Glastonbury 1994 & 1995 โ€“ they owned the Pyramid Stage. Not bad for a bunch of lads from Burnage.
  • Maine Road (1996) โ€“ playing in Manchesterโ€™s football Mecca. Proper spiritual moment.
  • Loch Lomond (Aug 1996) โ€“ 80,000 fans losing their minds.
  • Knebworth (Aug 10โ€“11, 1996) โ€“ 250,000 fans, two nights, helicopters, lasers, and absolute scenes. 2.5 million people applied for tickets. Thatโ€™s one in 20 Brits.

โ€œIf you werenโ€™t at Knebworth, were you even alive in โ€˜96?โ€ โ€“ Everyone with a parka

๐Ÿงจ The Feuding Begins

Despite the success, the cracks were showing. Missed soundchecks. Scraps over setlists. The infamous MTV Unplugged (Liam pulled out last-minute, heckled from the balcony, pint in hand). Noel said, โ€œHeโ€™s my brother, but heโ€™s like a man with a fork in a world of soup.โ€

โ„๏ธ 1997โ€“1999: BE HERE NOW… AND BURNOUT

๐Ÿ’ฟ Be Here Now (1997): Coke and Chords

The most hyped album of the decade landed in a storm of ego and snow (literally โ€“ the band were doing mountains of cocaine).

  • Long songs. Even longer intros.
  • โ€œDโ€™You Know What I Mean?โ€, โ€œStand By Meโ€, โ€œAll Around the Worldโ€ โ€“ overblown brilliance or bloated mess?

Initially a smash, but time hasnโ€™t been kind to it. Still, the tour was colossal.

๐ŸฅŠ Personal Drama Goes Public

  • Liam publicly questions the paternity of Noelโ€™s daughter. Classy.
  • Punch-ups in studios. Noel leaves the tour. Comes back. Leaves again.
  • Tabloids feast. Fans wonder how long theyโ€™ve got left.

โ€œWe went from working class heroes to Spinal Tap on speed.โ€ โ€“ Noel

๐ŸŽค Key Gigs:

  • G-MEX 1997 โ€“ a messy masterpiece. Loud. Leery. Legendary.
  • Barrowlands 1998 โ€“ one of the last great sweaty, intimate Oasis shows.

๐Ÿงฏ 2000โ€“2004: LINE-UP CHANGES & FAMILIAR CHAOS

๐Ÿšช New Members Join

Bonehead and Guigsy left in โ€˜99. Enter Gem Archer and Andy Bell. Alan White still on drums. A new era dawned… kind of.

๐Ÿ’ฟ Albums:

  • Standing on the Shoulder of Giants (2000) โ€“ more psychedelic, less punchy.
  • Heathen Chemistry (2002) โ€“ raw, rowdy, and a return to form.

๐Ÿ”ฅ More Fights, Naturally

  • Munich bar brawl (2002): Liam loses teeth.
  • Liam gets arrested in Germany. Noel threatens to walk (again).
  • Gigs pulled. Fans tamping.

โ€œEvery band argues. We just do it louder and with more broken furniture.โ€ โ€“ Liam

๐ŸŽถ Standout Tracks:

  • โ€œThe Hindu Timesโ€
  • โ€œStop Crying Your Heart Outโ€
  • โ€œLittle By Littleโ€
  • โ€œSongbirdโ€ (Liamโ€™s first proper tune, and itโ€™s lush!)

๐Ÿ”ฅ 2005โ€“2008: DONโ€™T BELIEVE THE TRUTH โ€“ BELIEVE THE COMEBACK

๐Ÿ’ฟ Albums:

  • Donโ€™t Believe the Truth (2005) โ€“ hailed as their best since Morning Glory
  • Dig Out Your Soul (2008) โ€“ darker, heavier, full of swagger

๐ŸŸ๏ธ Monster Gigs:

  • Manchester City Stadiums (2005) โ€“ back on home turf.
  • Wembley (2008) โ€“ roaring crowds, tighter band.
  • V Festival (2005 & 2008) โ€“ they still knew how to command a field.

The press cooled on them. The fans didnโ€™t. Oasis were still massive.

๐Ÿ’ฅ Noel & Liam: The War Continues

Every interview. Every studio session. Still barbs. Still brothers. Somehow, it worked.

โ€œHeโ€™s the best frontman in the world โ€“ when he shows up.โ€ โ€“ Noel

๐Ÿšจ 2009: THE END (AGAIN)

๐Ÿงƒ Fruit Platters & Fists

Rock en Seine Festival, Paris โ€“ August 2009.

Liam throws a plum. Noel smashes a guitar. One more argument turns final.

Noel: โ€œI simply could not go on working with Liam another day.โ€

And that was that. Oasis was over. No farewell tour. Just fury and silence.

โ€œItโ€™s over. Oasis is no more.โ€ โ€“ Official band statement

Fans wept. The tabloids feasted. The Britpop era was declared officially dead.

๐Ÿฆ 2010โ€“2020: AFTERSHOCKS & SOLO FIGHTS

๐ŸŽธ Beady Eye vs High Flying Birds

  • Liam forms Beady Eye (with Gem and Andy).
  • Noel forms High Flying Birds. Wins critical acclaim.

Beady Eye struggled. Noel soared. Liam still sold out venues but the magic had shifted.

๐Ÿ’ป Twitter Becomes WW3

  • Liam: โ€œPotato.โ€
  • Noel: โ€œFork. Soup.โ€
  • Fans stuck in the middle with memes.

Glastonbury rumours swirled every year. No reunion. Just insults and solo albums.

๐Ÿ”ฎ 2021โ€“NOW: WILL THEY / WONโ€™T THEY?

๐ŸŽค Liamโ€™s Still Loud

  • Solo albums: As You Were, Why Me? Why Not.
  • Played Knebworth solo in 2022 โ€“ and smashed it.

๐ŸŽธ Noelโ€™s Still Crafting

  • High Flying Birds releasing grown-up rock.
  • Tour dates everywhere but still no Oasis nod.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Reunite or Not?

  • Noel: โ€œNever say never… but probably never.โ€
  • Liam: โ€œItโ€™s happening. He just doesnโ€™t know it yet.โ€

โ€œIf the Stone Roses can do it, so can we. Unless Noel grows a proper fringe first.โ€ โ€“ Liam (probably)

๐Ÿงฑ LEGACY: OASIS FOREVER

  • 8 studio albums
  • Over 70 million records sold
  • 1,000 brotherly brawls (estimated)
  • A million dreams for a reunion

Oasis werenโ€™t just a band. They were a movement. A madness. A moment.

And whether or not they reunite, their songs are still shouted in football stadiums, pubs, and festival fields across the world.

Donโ€™t Look Back In Anger?

Cโ€™mon butt… we always will. ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿป
