And the new single “At Sea” is an absolute storm, butt 🤘
Right then Riff Report crew… strap in, grab a pint, and maybe bolt down your speakers because Tarja Turunen is back — and she’s gone FULL cinematic metal chaos 😈🎻
The former Nightwish queen has just announced her brand-new album Frisson Noir, landing 12 June 2026, and by all accounts… this one’s not here to play nice.
We’re talking dark, dramatic, orchestral metal on steroids — the kind of stuff that makes you want to stand on a cliff in the rain dramatically shouting lyrics into the void. Proper job.
⚡ THE ALBUM: BIG, BOLD, AND STACKED WITH LEGENDS
Tarja isn’t just dropping an album — she’s assembling a metal Avengers squad 🦸♂️🔥
Expect guest appearances from:
- 🎤 Marko Hietala (yes… THAT reunion energy 👀)
- 😈 Dani Filth (because of course things are getting spooky)
- 🎻 Apocalyptica (cue the cello apocalypse)
- 🥁 Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers bringing groove into the madness)
Honestly… this lineup alone is enough to make any metalhead spill their pint in excitement.
And behind the desk?
🎚 Neal Avron — the man who’s worked with Linkin Park, Disturbed, and Skillet — meaning this album is gonna hit like a sonic sledgehammer to the chest.
🌊 THE SINGLE: “AT SEA” — TEN MINUTES OF PURE DRAMA
Right… let’s talk about “At Sea”.
This isn’t your standard “three minutes and done” single. Oh no, mun — this is a TEN-MINUTE EPIC 😳🔥
We’re talking:
- 🌊 Massive orchestral swells
- 🎶 Haunting vocals that could summon ghosts
- 🥁 Thunderous percussion
- 🎻 Full choir + orchestra recorded in Budapest (because why not go full Bond villain soundtrack?)
It builds, it crashes, it drags you under and spits you back out — like being caught in a storm off the Welsh coast after one too many at the pub 🍻
This is Tarja at her most theatrical, most powerful, and most “go big or go home.”
🎧 RIFF REPORT VERDICT
Let’s be real for a sec…
Tarja has always been the queen of drama in metal, but Frisson Noir feels like she’s cranked everything up to eleven and then snapped the knob off completely 🤘
If “At Sea” is anything to go by:
- This album is gonna be huge
- It’s gonna be dark
- And it’s gonna be proper spine-tingling stuff

🤘 FINAL THOUGHTS
Whether you’ve been riding with Tarja since the Nightwish days or you’ve just stumbled into her world… this feels like one of those albums that’s gonna own the summer festival fields AND your headphones at 2am.
And honestly?
We are SO here for it.
Turn it up. Let it crash over you.
And try not to dramatically stare into the distance while listening… we dare you 😏🌊
Stay loud, stay Welsh, stay chaotic 🤘🔥
