“The Beast Before the Beast” finally gets his story told!
Get ready for fire, fury, and a frontman who never played by anyone’s rules. 🔥
Director Wes Orshoski — the mind behind the cult classics Lemmy and The Damned: Don’t You Wish That We Were Dead — has just confirmed his next metal masterpiece:
Di’Anno: Iron Maiden’s Lost Singer, arriving 2026. 🦅
🎤 The Punk Who Shaped Heavy Metal
Before Bruce Dickinson took flight with Iron Maiden, there was Paul Di’Anno — a snarling, streetwise powerhouse whose voice defined the band’s earliest years.
With that unmistakable mix of punk aggression and metal grit, Di’Anno fronted Maiden on their first two albums:
- 💿 Iron Maiden (1980)
- 💿 Killers (1981)
Those records didn’t just launch a band — they sparked a movement. Songs like “Prowler,” “Running Free,” “Phantom of the Opera,” and “Wrathchild” remain untouchable classics. You can still hear his fingerprints all over the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM).
He was the raw energy before the operatic grandeur — the sweaty pub gig before the arena spectacle.
⚔️ “I’m Not a Rock Star. I’m a Geezer Who Sings Metal.”
That’s pure Di’Anno — never one to mince words. 😅
He was kicked out of Iron Maiden in 1981, officially for “partying too hard” and not keeping up with the band’s relentless touring schedule. (Unofficially? He was just too wild even for Maiden.)
While the band went on to become global metal gods, Di’Anno took the rough road — stints with Battlezone, Killers, and countless solo projects. He’s been in and out of trouble, out of money, and in and out of hospital… but he’s never lost his love for heavy metal. 💀
In recent years, after a series of brutal health struggles and leg surgeries, fans rallied around him — funding his treatment and helping him get back on stage. And when he finally returned? The roar from the crowd said it all: the beast still lives.
🎥 Wes Orshoski Steps Behind the Camera Again
If anyone can capture the chaos, heart, and humour of Di’Anno’s story, it’s Wes Orshoski. His previous work, the acclaimed Lemmy documentary, set the gold standard for honest, no-bull storytelling in rock cinema.
Orshoski said:
“Paul’s story isn’t just about Iron Maiden. It’s about survival, attitude, and the cost of living your life your way. He’s one of the most misunderstood figures in heavy metal — and it’s time people saw the man behind the myth.”
Expect unseen archive footage, early Maiden gig clips, and interviews from the metal elite. Rumour has it a few very familiar faces from the Maiden family might even appear… 👀
