The metal world is sending its support to Peter “Peavy” Wagner after Rage announced that the legendary frontman and bassist’s health has worsened in recent days.
The German heavy metal veterans have confirmed that they are no longer able to perform at the Metal Lake Festival, with Peavy now required to begin medical treatment immediately and take the necessary time away from the stage to recover.
In a heartfelt statement addressed to their loyal fanbase — affectionately known as the Rageheads — the band explained that Peavy had struggled through their two most recent performances while seated.
Despite his condition, he had hoped that his health would improve enough for Rage to continue with their upcoming festival commitments.
Sadly, following his latest appointment with his doctor, it has become clear that continuing to perform is no longer possible.
❤️ Peavy Had Been Performing While Seated
According to the band’s statement, Peavy was only able to complete the previous two Rage concerts while sitting down.
That alone shows the determination and dedication of a musician who has spent decades giving absolutely everything to the fans. However, there comes a point when the amps need to be switched off, the bass needs to be placed safely back on its stand, and health must become the only priority.
The band wrote:
“Unfortunately, we have to let you know that Peavy’s health has worsened over the past few days. He was only able to perform the last two shows while sitting down, but he had hoped things would improve.”
Following further medical advice, Peavy will now step away from performing while he undergoes treatment.
The band continued:
“Following his latest doctor’s appointment, it is now clear that he needs to begin treatment immediately and take the necessary time to recover.”
🚫 Rage Withdraw from Metal Lake Festival
As a direct result of the situation, Rage have officially cancelled their scheduled appearance at the Metal Lake Festival.
Understandably, the band are currently unable to confirm exactly what this means for the rest of their upcoming festival dates.
Rather than cancelling everything immediately, Rage have said that they will assess each appearance individually and provide updates as the situation develops.
Their statement explained:
“At this point, we can’t yet say what this means for the festivals that follow. We will assess the situation on a show-by-show basis and, of course, keep you updated.”
Fans planning to see Rage at another upcoming festival are therefore advised to keep an eye on the band’s official channels for further announcements.
For now, though, the only thing that truly matters is Peavy getting the treatment, rest and recovery time he needs.
🎸 More Than Four Decades of Heavy Metal
Peavy Wagner has been the unmistakable heart of Rage since the band’s earliest days.
Originally formed under the name Avenger during the 1980s, the group later became Rage and developed into one of Germany’s most enduring and influential heavy metal acts.
Across a career spanning more than four decades, Peavy has remained the band’s central figure — delivering thunderous basslines, unmistakable vocals and a back catalogue packed with traditional heavy metal, speed metal, power metal and symphonic ambition.
Rage have never been a band afraid to evolve.
From straight-ahead metal anthems to orchestral collaborations and massive conceptual records, Peavy’s creativity and determination have kept the machine rolling through changing line-ups, changing musical trends and an industry that often chews bands up before breakfast.
That is precisely why this announcement will hit fans hard.
For generations of Rageheads, Peavy is not simply the singer or bass player. He is the constant presence at the centre of the band — the man who has carried the Rage name through countless albums, tours and festival stages.
🤘 Fans Rally Behind Peavy
While the cancellation will undoubtedly be disappointing for those attending Metal Lake, the response from the metal community is likely to be overwhelmingly supportive.
Festival appearances can be rescheduled.
Tours can be rearranged.
Health cannot be replaced.
The fact that Peavy managed to perform the previous two shows while seated highlights both his commitment and the seriousness of the situation. But no musician should ever feel pressured to continue when their body is telling them to stop.
Rage concluded their announcement by making their priorities perfectly clear:
“Right now, the most important thing is that Peavy makes a full recovery. Thank you all for your understanding and your continued support.”
That is the message that matters most.
