You can’t make this stuff up, butt — apparently someone did!
Rock icon Sammy Hagar, the one and only Red Rocker, has had to respond to a downright bizarre viral hoax that’s been doing the rounds online this week. The claim? That a man pretending to be Hagar had been arrested for scamming fans out of cash. Yep. Someone apparently thought they could fake being Sammy Hagar and get away with it.
The story first appeared on social media and spread faster than a Van Halen solo, with wild claims that police had nabbed a “Sammy Hagar lookalike” who was running fake fan meet-ups and “exclusive” tequila tasting events. Spoiler alert: it’s complete nonsense.
Hagar himself jumped onto social media to clear things up, posting:
“Don’t believe everything you read online, folks. If someone was pretending to be me, they’d better at least be able to sing ‘I Can’t Drive 55!’”
Fans were quick to pile into the comments — some cracking jokes, others defending their hero. One fan wrote, “Even the fake Sammy Hagar’s probably living on Cabo time!” Another quipped, “Bet the scammer only made it halfway to Cabo before he ran outta gas.” 😂
The Cabo Wabo founder took it all in good humour, proving once again that you can’t keep a rocker down for long. Whether he’s shredding on stage, running tequila empires, or debunking daft internet rumours, Hagar’s still as sharp and fiery as ever. 🔥
Let’s be honest, though — if you’re gonna impersonate someone, maybe don’t pick the man with the most recognisable mane in rock ‘n’ roll.
Moral of the story: the only real Red Rocker is still out there, living loud, living free, and (presumably) not driving 55. 🏎️💨

Above all, Michael believes rock and metal are about more than music—they’re about community, friendship, and creating memories that last a lifetime. That’s exactly what The Riff Report exists to celebrate.
