Norwegian progressive metal explorers Grant The Sun are preparing to drag listeners across scorched deserts, tangled rainforests and some seriously thunderous musical terrain with their new album, Biomes.
Arriving on 16 October 2026 through Mas-Kina Recordings, the instrumental trioโs second full-length promises to be their most ambitious, technically challenging and fully realised creation yet.

๐ Two Musical Worlds Collide
Three years after releasing their acclaimed debut album, Voyage, Grant The Sun are pushing their sound into bold new territory.
The band have become known for creating mesmerising instrumental journeys that blur the boundaries between progressive metal, post-metal and post-rock. On Biomes, those different elements are brought together within a concept built around contrast and duality.
The album is divided into two interconnected musical worlds.
One side embraces enormous post-metal atmospheres, slow-burning passages and immersive soundscapes. The other comes armed with crushing progressive metal riffs, unpredictable rhythms, technical arrangements and sudden eruptions of pure heaviness.
Rather than battling for control, these contrasting styles flow into one another โ producing a record capable of moving from quiet contemplation to full-blown sonic devastation without warning. Lovely stuff! ๐ค
๐๏ธ From Desert Sands to Lush Rainforests
That sense of contrast also runs through the albumโs artwork, which depicts a barren desert merging seamlessly into a vibrant rainforest.
It acts as a visual metaphor for the music contained within Biomes: two completely different environments meeting, evolving and eventually becoming part of the same landscape.
It is a fitting image for an album designed to balance delicate textures with punishing heaviness โ beauty and brutality standing side by side like old festival mates sheltering beneath the same knackered gazebo.
๐ฅ A Year of Hard Work and Musical Challenges
Biomes was created during an intense year-long period of writing, experimentation and rehearsal.
Working towards a deadline encouraged the musicians to push themselves further, particularly when developing the albumโs complicated arrangements, technical sections and unusual time signatures.
The band explained:
โCreating this album has been a continuous long-lasting process stretched over the last year. Working towards a deadline kept us on our toes and gave us new challenges in terms of time signatures, technical parts, and arrangements. We feel that all the hard work and hours of rehearsal have paid off, and weโre proud to present this new chapter.โ
Grant The Sun have never appeared interested in taking the easy route. With Biomes, they have expanded the scale of their music while delivering something richer, more detailed and increasingly confident.
