Posada Rock celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2026.
FOUR DECADES.
Founded in 1986, Posada is recognised as Romania’s oldest open-air rock festival and has spent years providing a stage for young Romanian bands alongside international artists.
And the anniversary line-up isn’t exactly subtle.

Electric Castle happens beside the fifteenth-century Bánffy Castle in Transylvania.
Because apparently Romanian festival organisers have collectively decided normal locations aren’t dramatic enough.
Electric Castle isn’t a dedicated rock or metal festival.
Far from it.
The event throws hundreds of local and international artists together across alternative, electronic, indie, hip-hop and rock.
The 2026 programme included names such as:

Summer Well takes things in a different direction again.
The festival takes place on the beautiful Știrbey Domain in Buftea, just outside Bucharest.
And while this isn’t somewhere you’re going to hear twelve consecutive hours of black metal, Summer Well is an important part of Romania’s alternative music scene.
The 2026 edition — the festival’s 15th — runs from 7–9 August. (Summer Well)

Romania also provides fertile ground for something particularly tasty:
FOLK-INFLUENCED METAL.
Traditional Romanian melodies and instruments can combine brilliantly with heavy music.
Bands such as Bucovina, Dordeduh and E-an-na have explored different approaches to Romanian identity within heavy music.
And when you’re travelling internationally for festivals, those cultural differences make everything much more interesting.
Nobody needs every European metal band sounding exactly like they’re from Gothenburg.

🍺 Romanian Festival Survival
Romanian summers can get HOT.
Very hot.
Which makes our traditional British metalhead uniform somewhat questionable:

Zero sun cream.

Apparently trying to cook ourselves from the inside and outside simultaneously.
Don’t do that.
Drink actual water.
Wear sunscreen.
Find shade.
Stay hydrated.
And if you’re camping near the mountains, remember temperatures can feel very different after dark.
Festival preparation doesn’t become uncool just because you own a Slayer patch.
🍖 Eat Something Romanian
You’re not spending a week in Romania eating chips every night.
Absolutely not.
Try some local food.
Look out for:
Mici — grilled minced-meat rolls.
Sarmale — cabbage rolls traditionally filled with meat and rice.
Mămăligă — polenta-style Romanian comfort food.
Ciorbă — hearty sour soups.
Papanași — Romanian doughnut-style dessert with cream and jam.
