The Red Rockerโs legendary Cabo Birthday Bash returns for three nights of riffs, surprises and tequila-fuelled chaos
Most people celebrate their 79th birthday with a nice meal, a few cards and perhaps an early night.
Sammy Hagar is not most people.
The Red Rocker is preparing to celebrate his 79th birthday by throwing three massive parties at the legendary Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and judging by the extraordinary demand surrounding previous editions, half the rock world would happily abandon work, book a flight and join him.
Sammyโs famous Cabo Birthday Bash has reportedly attracted more than 50,000 ticket requests, despite the Cantina only holding a tiny fraction of that number.
That is not a birthday party.
That is a full-blown international rock โnโ roll pilgrimage, butt. ๐ค
๐น Three Nights in Cabo
The 2026 Birthday Bash will take place across three nights:
- Friday 9th October 2026
- Sunday 11th October 2026
- Tuesday 13th October 2026
The final show lands on Sammy Hagarโs actual birthday, meaning the atmosphere inside Cabo Wabo should be somewhere between a classic rock concert, a family reunion and the most chaotic pub lock-in imaginable.
Doors are expected to open at approximately 7pm, with each show scheduled to begin at 9:30pm.
Sammy will be joined by a collection of friends, musicians and surprise guests, although the full line-up is traditionally kept flexible.
That means fans never quite know who might walk onto the stage.
One minute you could be watching Sammy belt out a solo classic. The next, some legendary rocker could appear from behind the curtain holding a guitar and looking like they have just been handed a suspiciously large glass of tequila.
That unpredictability has become a huge part of the Bashโs appeal.
๐๏ธ Tickets Cost $79 โ One Dollar for Every Year
In a wonderfully Sammy Hagar move, standard tickets for the Cabo shows have been priced at $79 each โ one dollar for every year of the Red Rockerโs life.
Ticket purchases are limited to two per household, per night, with fans required to enter a random drawing for the opportunity to buy them.
Registration for the drawing opened on Monday 20th July and will remain available until Friday 31st July 2026 at 9pm Pacific Time.
Every registration is treated equally, so there is no advantage in desperately refreshing the page while shouting at the Wi-Fi router.
Successful fans are due to be contacted on Monday 3rd August, after which they will have until Sunday 9th August to complete their purchases.
Any unclaimed tickets are expected to receive a limited first-come, first-served release on Thursday 13th August.
Tickets cannot be transferred, and the purchaser will need to present valid photographic identification at the venue.
Basically, the organisers are doing everything possible to stop touts from turning Sammyโs birthday into an online resale bloodbath.
Proper job. ๐ค
๐ธ Why Everyone Wants to Attend
The Cabo Birthday Bash has become one of the most sought-after events in classic rock.
Fans known affectionately as Redheads travel from across the world to squeeze into the intimate Cabo Wabo Cantina and celebrate with Sammy.
Unlike a giant stadium show, the Birthday Bash puts the audience incredibly close to the action. There are no distant figures on enormous screens and no binoculars required from row 400.
It is hot, sweaty, unpredictable and wonderfully personal.
The event has built its reputation through surprise appearances, spontaneous performances, deep cuts and unforgettable versions of songs from across Sammyโs career.
His musical history provides enough material to power the celebrations all night.
There are the early days with Montrose, the hugely successful solo career, the enormous hits recorded with Van Halen, the heavyweight rock of Chickenfoot, and the more recent shows performed with the Best of All Worlds Band.
Potential set-list ammunition includes monsters such as:
- โI Canโt Drive 55โ
- โThereโs Only One Way to Rockโ
- โHeavy Metalโ
- โMas Tequilaโ
- โWhy Canโt This Be Loveโ
- โRight Nowโ
- โBest of Both Worldsโ
- โFinish What Ya Startedโ
- โDreamsโ
Throw in a few unexpected covers and some unannounced guests, and you have the recipe for one almighty night.
๐ฅ The Red Rocker Refuses to Slow Down
Sammy Hagar might be approaching 79, but somebody appears to have forgotten to tell him that he is supposed to take things easy.
He remains busy touring, performing, recording and running an expanding collection of businesses, including ventures involving restaurants, rum, lager and โ naturally โ tequila.
While plenty of people his age might be considering a quieter schedule, Sammy is still charging onto stages, throwing parties and singing songs about driving far too quickly.
The man appears to run on sunlight, riffs and premium spirits.
Ahead of the Cabo celebrations, Hagar is also scheduled to perform at the Full Throttle Saloon in Sturgis, South Dakota, before returning to Las Vegas for further dates in his Best of All Worlds residency at Dolby Live at Park MGM.
Those Vegas performances are scheduled for:
- Saturday 19th September 2026
- Wednesday 23rd September 2026
- Friday 25th September 2026
- Saturday 26th September 2026
Then it is straight to Cabo for the birthday madness.
No slippers. No quiet cup of tea. No Sunday afternoon nap.
Just more amplifiers.
๐ด Dinner Shows and the Cabo Queue
A limited number of special dinner-show tickets are also expected to be sold directly at Cabo Wabo Cantina.
These tickets are traditionally made available in person on the day before each concert, with fans queueing at the venue for the chance to secure a place.
Dinner seatings are usually offered around 6:30pm, 7:30pm and 8:30pm, with sales expected to begin at approximately 9am on:
- Thursday 8th October
- Saturday 10th October
- Monday 12th October
Only two tickets can be purchased per person, and they cannot be transferred.
With demand this high, anyone planning to join the queue may need sunscreen, water, patience and the survival instincts of someone attempting to reach the front barrier at Download Festival.
Possibly a Greggs sausage roll as well, although getting one delivered to Cabo might be tricky.
๐ค Still One of Rockโs Biggest Personalities
The staggering popularity of Sammy Hagarโs Birthday Bash says plenty about the connection he has built with his audience.
This is not simply a nostalgia event centred around a former Van Halen singer.
Fans continue to follow Sammy because he still looks like he is having the time of his life.
Whether he is performing a classic anthem, pouring drinks, telling stories or inviting friends onto the stage, his enthusiasm feels genuine.
He has never treated rock โnโ roll like a museum exhibit.
For Sammy, it remains something loud, communal and joyfully ridiculous โ exactly as it should be.
The Birthday Bash captures that spirit perfectly.
It brings together die-hard fans, musicians and friends for several nights where the normal rules disappear and the only important questions are:
Who is joining Sammy on stage?
What song are they playing next?
And most importantly:
Who ordered another round?
๐ Happy Birthday, Sammy!
Turning 79 would be a milestone for anybody.
Turning 79 while tens of thousands of fans fight for the chance to attend your birthday party is something else entirely.
The 2026 Cabo Birthday Bash looks set to deliver three unforgettable nights of classic songs, surprise collaborations and enough tequila to make airport security nervous.
Many will enter the ticket drawing.
Only a fortunate few will make it through the doors.
Those lucky Redheads should prepare themselves for one of the most intimate, unpredictable and gloriously excessive celebrations in rock music.
Happy birthday, Sammy Hagar.
Keep driving 55 โ or preferably something a little slower when leaving the Cantina. ๐น๐ธ๐ฅ
