Back in 2011, two Welsh rock dreamersโAx Rhead and Mikey Evansโhad a vision. Not just a gig. Not just another festival. They wanted to build something louder, prouder, and more badass than anything the Valleys had ever seen.
And so, deep in the heart of Ebbw Vale, inside the sweat-soaked walls of their monthly rock club night at Ebbw Vale Rugby Club, something began to stir. The amps were hot, the beers were cold, and the energy? Electric. ๐ค
But these two legends didnโt stop there. They looked to the hills and said, โLetโs take it up the mountain.โ Literally.
What started as a grassroots extension of a local club night exploded into Walesโ biggest independent rock festival. Perched high on the Blorenge Mountain, Steelhouse Festival was born not with a whimperโbut with a full-throttle scream. And from that moment on, it became a rock classic.
As the years rolled on, the festival didn’t just grow โ it evolved. Bigger crowds, louder bands, better facilities, and an ever-stronger sense of community turned Steelhouse from a scrappy start-up into a must-attend institution. Each year brought improvements: tighter logistics, expanded stages, better food, more toilets (thank the rock gods), and a more inclusive vibe. What began as a muddy dream is now a polished, professional, and proudly Welsh weekend of music and magic โ and it still rocks like it did on day one.
